Verna Whitmer

Verna Norene Whitmer departed this life on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at her residence at the age of 68. Mrs. Whitmer was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Butler Co. She was a lifelong resident of Butler County and a member of Stringtown Baptist Church.   She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, flowers and watching animals.

She married Robert C. Whitmer on March 3, 1959, in Butler Co.  He preceded her in death on November 15, 1994. 

Survivors include; three daughters, Anita Hupp and husband, Randy, Donna Franklin and husband, Shawn, and Edith Hastings and fiance’ Doug Redwine all of Poplar Bluff; one son, Bobby Whitmer and wife, Rhonda of Opelika, Ala.; one sister, Ruth Whitmer of Poplar Bluff; six brothers, Kenneth Davis, Johnny Davis of Fairdealing, Mo. Clyde Davis, Stanley Davis,Dennis Davis and Paul Davis, all of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Amber Young and husband, Steven, Ashley Amoro and husband, Jason, Todd Whitmer and Nathan Hastings; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden Fisher Allen Young and Sierra Amoro.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian Koonce Davis.

Visitation Tues. June 29, 2010 6-8 p.m. and funeral services Wed. June 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  Officiated by Shelvie Stevens.  Burial in the Bay Springs Cemetery.

Ellen Nimon

Ellen L. Nimon, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Westwood Hills Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs Nimon was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Corning, Ark. A homemaker, she lived in Poplar Bluff most of her life.  She enjoyed crochet, reading the Bible, flowers, county fairs, animal shows, dancing and spending time with her great-granddaughter and friends. She attended Faith Seventh Day Baptist Church in Doniphan.

On March 13, 1988, she married Louis Nimon.  He survives.

Also surviving one son, Earl Thurston Jr. of Sherwood, Ark.; a sister Jean Hess of Poplar Bluff; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation held a 2 p.m. Wednesday June 16, 2010 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. followed by a graveside service at the Cochran Cemetery  in Harviell with Wilford” Bud” Beecher officiating.

Eva Fox

Eva Caroline Fox, 76, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.  died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Fox was born March 9, 1934, in Poplar Bluff. A lifelong resident of Poplar Bluff, she had worked in home health and was of the General Baptist faith.  She was a member of American Legion Post no. 630, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans and past president of the Ladies Auxilliary.  She enjoyed fishing and shopping.

On July 12, 1954, she married Jesse Fox in East St. Louis, Ill.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 8. 2004. Also preceding her in death are one son, Paul Steven in 1965 and three brothers, Ralph Smothers, Clyde Smothers and Bartley Smothers and her parents, Leonard and Ellen Smothers.

Survivors include her significant other, Carl McIrvin of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Ellen Lee Jane Mangrum and her husband, Bobby, of Poplar Bluff and Gail Lynn Luttrull and her husband, Teddy Roosevelt Luttrull, of Williamsville; two sisters, Opal Browning Spencer and Neona Bishop, both of Poplar Bluff; one sister-in-law Margie Chapman of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Cliford Smothers of Converse, La.; six grandchildren, Ricky Luttrull, Randy Lutrull, Crystal Adam, Teddy Luttrull, Tammy Davis, and Tracie Luttrull; 12 great-grandchildren, Trever Luttrull, Ashten Luttrull, Leia Luttrull, Randy Luttrull Jr., Jeremy Wayne Adams, Addison Dean, Dylan Dean, Teddy Michael Luttrull, Dewayne Dustin Luttrull, Nikkie Burpo and her husband, C.J. Burpo, Mackenzy Yokel and Justin David Davis and his wife, Tana; four great-great grandchildren, Heaven Leigh Burpo. Cameron Leigh Bupro, Saige Davis and Kelsey Davis.

A graveside service was held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Charels Kelley officiating.  Fowler- Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff  was in charge of arrangements.
