Steven Wayne Murphy

Visitation  after 6 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, (9th & Cedar Streets), Poplar Bluff, Mo.  Funeral services will be held in the chapel,  at 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, December 17, 2010.  Rev. Calvin Buhler will  officiate.  Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

Steven Wayne Murphy passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at his home in Mayfield, Ky. at the age of 43. 

Mr. Murphy was born Feb. 21, 1967  at Poplar Bluff, Mo.  He attended Pottsville Church of Christ in Pottsville, Ky. and was a Procurement Buyer Clerk for Pilgrims Pride Chicken processing plant.  He enjoyed reading, photography, spending time with family  and watching his nephews play sports.

He is survived by his father, Gerald Murphy of Mayfield Ky., and  mother, Norma Reed, Poplar Bluff.  Also surviving, his twin sister, Deborah Russom and her fiance’, Doug Endsley of St. Peters, Mo.,and sister Michelle Chapman; brothers Gene Russom and wife Gina, Poplar Bluff, Devin Russom and wife Rhonda, Poplar Bluff, Bud Murphy and wife Kimberlee, Mayfield, Ky., and James Colter; two nieces and 12 nephews, whom he loved very much, Travis Russom, Austin, Dustin, Christina, Wyatt, Cody, Tyler, Dalton, and Hunter Russom, Keanu, Keelan and Korbin, Britni and Trendle Murphy. He is alson survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

RUBY JEAN HENSON

Ruby Jean Henson, 75, of Poplar Bluff went to her Heavenly Home Sunday Dec. 5, 2010 at her residence.  Visitation will be from 6-9 PM  Wed. Dec. 8, 2010 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff-844 Cedar Street.  Funeral services will be at 10AM Thurs Dec. 9, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenny Durham officiating.  Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Mrs. Henson was born Nov. 14, 1935 in Hendrickson, MO , to the late Odie Lee Wheeling and Marie Wheeling.  On Aug. 7, 1954 she married Wayne Henson, in Poplar Bluff and he preceded her in death Sept. 1, 2007

She had worked many years for the Florsheim Shoe Company.  She also worked as a cook for the Poplar Bluff Schools and had worked in the cafeteria of Lucy Lee Hospital.  She loved the outdoors, observing wildlife, camping, traveling and being with her family.  She attended Little Brown General Baptist Church. 

Ruby is survived by a daughter; Janice West (Jim) of Poplar Bluff; two sons; Ron Henson (Amy) of Poplar Bluff; and Dewayne Henson of Poplar Bluff.  Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and five sisters; Glenda Jackson, Doris Roach, Marge McDaniel, Cindy Cray and Debbie Settlemiere; four brothers; Ted Wheeling, Bob Wheeling, Lee Wheeling, and Bill Wheeling. 

Ruby was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Arrington and a sister in infantcy.

Gordie Lois White

Gordie Lois White, 98, passed away, Dec. 3, 2010 in Peyton, Colorado.  Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday Dec. 10, 2010 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff-844 Cedar St.  Funeral services will be Sat. Dec. 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bob Featherston officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. White was born April 15, 1912 in Lodi, MO  He was retired from Florsheim Shoe Company, in Poplar Blff.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of Westside Church of God, Poplar Bluff. 

On March 1, 1935  he married Ruby M. Robinson White in Craighead County Arkansas.  She preceded him in death on March 23, 1986.

Mr. White is survived by two children, Judy Phillips and husband, Rich, of Peyton, Co. and Robert White and wife Judy, of St. Louis; one brother, Curtis “Mike” White of Linn Creek, Mo.; three grandchildren, Debbie Johnson, Kimberly Hartman and Kevin Vinson; four great-grandchildren Ashley and Myranda Johnson; Ruby and Evan Hartman.

Mr. White was preceded in death byhis parents Lebious Wesley White and Virgie Susan “Susie” Harris; and  two sisters; Rachel Cross and Gladys Roy

Alma Daves

Visitation for Ms. Daves will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Graveside funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in Memorial Garden with Bishop Kent Miller officiating. 

Alma Lee Daves, 76, of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at the Westwood Hillis Healthcare.

Mrs. Daves was born Feb. 12, 1934, in Big Island, Mo.  to parents Claude Ray Urich and Mrytie Starks Urich.  She was a lifetime Butler County resident and  attended church at  the Palace of Praise.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

On Feb. 14, 1963, she married Jerry Deloy Daves in East St. Louis, Ill.  He preceded her in death on July 25, 2006. 

Survivors include two children, Jerry Lee Daves and wife, Kathie, and Kim Prenzel and husband, Kenny, all of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Pat Crawford and husband,  Ed,  of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, Mikki Daves, Justin Lee Daves and Whitney Stewart; a great-grandchild, Shelby  Leigh Byrum; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Ray Urich and Mrytie Starks Urich; and two brothers, Floyd Ray Urich and Austin Urich.

Clarence “Bud” Gentry

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Visitation will be at 6 p.m.  Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 and funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, Poplar Bluff.  Services will be officiated by Minister Sharon Sadler. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, Mo., with full millitary rites.

Clarence “Bud” Gentry, 64, of Harviell, Mo, passed away Saturday, Dec 4, 2010, at his residence. 

He was born Sept. 19, 1946, in Poplar Bluff to parents Charles and Hazel Fann Gentry.  He was a lifetime Butler County resident.  He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War.  An auto mechanic by trade, he enjoyed fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family. He loved his grandchildren dearly.

On June 9, 1972, he married Yvonne Ward in Jonesboro, Ark.  She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Melissa Richardson and husband, Kurt , of Poplar Bluff; a son, Christopher Gentry and Rachelle, of Ellsinore, Mo.; four sisters and their families, Verda Boruff of Watervlit, Michigan,. Katy Gordon of Dowagiac, Mich., Kathy Brannon of Springfield, Mo., and Glenda Sisk of Edwardsburg, Mich., a brother, Bill Gentry and family of Pollard, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Bradley Ketcherside, Tawyn Gentry, Amanda Wells, Cole Gentry, Kyle Richardson, Kody Richardson, Sierra Zeiler and Leau Zeiler; two special nephews, Bryon Ward and Gary Ward; and a host of other nephews, nieces and special friends.

Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel Fann Gentry; and three sisters, Lavenda Hopson, Vonda Barker and Charlene Taylor.

JO ANN JOHNSON

Jo Ann Johnson, 48, of Poplar Bluff passed away Nov. 30, 2010 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  She was born July 30, 1962 in Fordyce, Arkansas. 

She attended Lively Stone Church in Poplar Bluff.  She was disabled, but previously had worked in cosmetology and at the Sunshine Home for handicaped children.  She enjoyed bingo, traveling and spending time with all her family.

She had been married to Joseph Johnson Sr. in 1983 and he survives. 

She is survived by her mother: Carle Allen Davis; 6 children: Rodney Ross-Johnson; Brandie Ross-Johnson; Denise Ross-Johnson; Joseph Johnson Jr.; Joffery Johnson; and Landon Cook-Johnson.  Two sisters: Patsy Fay Graham; Rejoyce Goggins-Graham; three brothers:  Louis Ross Jr; Larry Graham; and Stanley Dye-Ross and twenty granchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Louis Ross Sr, sisters: Fannie Thomas and Bertha Ross; a brother: Richard ‘Dick’ Ross

JERRY THOMPSON

Jerry Thompson, 55, passed away November 30, 2010 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO  Visitation will be held from 10AM to Noon Saturday Dec. 4, 2010 at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church of God 1875 Speedway Dr.  Poplar Bluff, MO  63901.  Funeral service will begin at noon with Bishop Ronnie Webb officiating.  Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born July 19, 1955 to Allen Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson.  His father, Allen Thompson and his sister Marilyn Brooks preceded him in death. 

If one was to sum up Jerry’s life, it would be that he was very outgoing, courageous and self-sufficient.  He was the type of person that literally took life by the hands, he gave a lot and did not ask for much in return.  Jerry was crafty with his hands and could fix anything.  He spent his time cooking, horseback riding and fishing.  He had such a love for children, his siblings, family and a special love for his mother.  If someone were to ask him what his favorite color was, it was said LIFE.

He is survived by his precious mother; Elizabeth Thompson of St. Louis; two brothers Allen Thompson of St. Louis; and Gregory Thompson of Cahokia, IL  two sisters; Zina Thompson of St. Louis and Vellery Rodgers (Marcus) of Denver, CO.  A host of aunts, uncles, nieces ,nephews and other family and friends. 

Jerry confessed a hope in Christ at the age of 10 years old an New Light Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff under the leadership of his late grandfather Rev. Frank Earl.  He attended Poplar Bluff Seniour High.  He worked for Contico and was self-employed for the remainder of his life.
