Zella Scott ,81 of Poplar Bluff,  passed away May 31, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be 6-8PM Thurs June 2, 2011 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar St.  Poplar Bluff.  Funeral will be at 2PM Friday June 3 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Sharp officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Scott was born Jan. 16, 1930 to the late Dewey Schaefer and Bertha Carnahan Schaefer, in Ellsinore, MO  She was of the Baptist faith.  She enjoyed sewing.  Mrs. Scott worked for over 16 years for the foster grandparent program.  On July 26, 1951 she married Roy Sherman Scott who has preceaded her in death. 

She is survived by two daughters;  Karen Scott-Lemmons of Dudley and Lora Gladden of Poplar Bluff; three sisters; Elode Morris and Leroy of Poplar Bluff; Anna Manns (Virgil) of Poplar Bluff, and Rosena (Sis) Eudaley (Leon) of Ellsinore.  Three grandchildren; Andrea Midkiff (Kelby), Dustin Gladden (Misty) and Sierra Cannady (Daniel); and nine great-grandchildren; Jack and Ben Midkiff; Andy and Amber Miles; Alex and Emma Ervin; Dylan Gladden; Bailey and Brooklyn Cannady.

She was preceaded in death by two brothers; Roy Schaefer and James Schaefer and one sister Alma Weatherford (James)

Mike Baker, 51, of Poplar Bluff passed away May 31, 2011 at his home.  Mr. Baker was born December 29, 1959, in Poplar Bluff, to the late James Baker and Christina Bridgeman-Baker.  A memorial service will be held 3PM  Saturday June 4, 2011 at the Abundant Life Christian Center at the corner of Dalton and Bradley Street in Poplar Bluff.  Pastor Doug Bruce officiating.

Mike was a carpet layer, enjoyed fishing, cars and spending time with his family-especially with his grandchildren.  On May 23, 2011 he married Sheila Thompson-Baker, in Poplar Bluff and she survives.  Also surviving are three sons: Mikeal Baker, Adam Baker and Tyler Baker; two brothers; Terry Baker and Ricky Baker and three grandchildren.

Juanita M. Hendrix

Juanita M. Hendrix, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the age of 88.  Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in the chapel.   Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Monday at Freedom Church, 527 Henry Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The church will open at 10 a.m. for another viewing before the funeral.  Officiated by Pastor Scott Cheshire  with burial in Memorial Gardens, Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Hendrix was born April 1, 1923, at Bakersfield, California, to parents Archie M. Crawford and Maude McCullay Crawford.  She had formerly lived in Cedar Ridge, Mo., and had lived in Butler County for the past 10 months.

She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles and work.  She was a member of Freedom Church in Poplar Bluff. 

On April 26, 1941, she was married to Alva L. Hendrix.  He preceded her in death on April 9, 1989.

Surviving are her children, Ronnie Hendrix Sr., of Poplar Bluff, Laura Tieman Kohlhauff of Branson, Mo., Lanny Hendrix of St. Louis, Mo. and Rory Hendrix of House Springs, Mo., two sisters, Judy Holt of Kennett and Sandra Birdsong of Florida; five brothers, Jerry Crawford of Osceola, Ark., Allen M. Crawford, Kenneth Jackie Crawford and Tony Crawford, all of Kennett, Mo., and Lanny Crawford of Springfield, Mo., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a dear mother-in-law and loving aunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, LarryMontgomery; one sister, Betsy Crawford;  four brothers, Jim Crawford, Bill Crawford, Gerald Crawford and Ricky Crawford.

Joyce Dean

Joyce Ann Dean, of Naylor, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at Poplar Bluff  Regional Medical Center, at the age of 69.

Mrs. Dean was born November 5, 1941, in Centerville, Iowa.  She had lived in Naylor seven yeras and previously lived in Rockford, Ill.  She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She had been a supervisor for enviromental services and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

On March 18, 1958, she was married to Willard Wayne Dean in Rockford, Ill.  He survives.

Surviving are her children, Marlin Wayne Dean of Arkansas, Michael Douglas Dean and Tom Edward Dean, both of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Patricia Mussman of Poplar Bluff and three grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be  held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard, Ark.

Norma Jean Reed

Norma Jean Reed passed away Sunday May 22, 2011 at her home, at the age of 61. 

Visitation will be held  from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday May 25, 2011 in the chapel.  Funeral Services will be  at 10 a.m. Thursday May 26, 2011.  Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating.  Burial in Memorial Gardens, Poplar Bluff, Mo.

She was born August 11, 1949 to parents Robert E. Reed and Helen M. Whitaker Reed, in Stoddard County, Missouri.

She worked at Revere Plastics for 15 years before retiring.  She enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, fishing and her grandchildren. 

 Surviving are three children, Deborah Russom and fiance’, Doug Endsley, Gene Russom and wife, Gina, and Devin Russom and wife, Rhonda; two sisters, Brenda Blurton and husband, Jim, and Pat Moman and husband, Frank; two brothers, Ronnie Reed and wife Bonnie, and Robert (Sonny) Reed and wife, Judy; 11 grandchildren; Travis, Austin, Dustin, Christina, Wyatt, Cody, Tyler, Dalton and Hunter Russom, Britni Wyrick and Trendle McNew.

 She was preceded in death by one son, Steven Murphy, her parents, and one sister, Joanne Whoberry.

 Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar, Poplar Bluff, Mo. in charge of arrangements.

Pamela Walton

Pamela Lynn Wells Walton passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at St. Louis University Hospital in St Louis, Missouri.  She was 56.

Visitation will begin at 11 am Tuesday, May 24, 2011,  followed by the funeral service at  12 noon in Williamsville Assembly of God with Pastor Helen Edwards officiating.  Burial in Duncan Cemetery in Wayne County. 

 She was born March 12 1955, in Poplar Bluff and was a lifetime resident of Butler County.  She was a member of Williamsville Assembly of God.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, crafts, being a grandma to her grandchildren. She had a special love for children.

On January 29, 1972, she was married to Larry Dale Walton in Willimasville.  He survives.  Also surviving are her children, Julie Birdsong and husband, Brian, Shaun Walton and wife, Heather, and J.C. Cothren, all of Poplar Bluff; her mother, Joan (Ballew)Wells of Williamsville; one stepbrother, Billy Emmons of Cleveland, Texas; five grandchildren and many special children who were close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Wells and her stepfather, Bill McMahan.

Margaret Swindle, 76, of Poplar Bluff, passed away at her residence Sunday May 15, 2011.  Visitation will be 10:30-12:30 Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar Street Poplar Bluff.  Funeral service will begin at 12:30 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Harwell officiating.  There will be a 2PM burial at MO State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. 

Margaret was born July 19, 1934 in Marenisco, Michigan.  She was a member of New Life Christian Church United and was a retired hairdresser.  she enjoyed dancing,  sewing, reading, active in her church and caring for her children and grandchildren.  On August 1, 1969 she married Thomas W. Swindle in Poplar Bluff.  He preceded her in death in 2003.  She had previously been married to Milo Hook and Ronald Palmer, who both preceded her in death. 

She is survived by children; Robert Palmer and wife Linda, Judith Robertson and husband Joe, Madrid Palmer and wife Pat, Gary Palmer, Harvey Hook, Jennifer Littell and husband Karl, and Jeff Swindle and wife Tonya.  Also step sons; Harold Swindle and wife Sheila, Tommy Swindle, and Gerald Swindle and wife Helen.  Also survived by her sisters; Lorraine Anderson, Marcella Miskovich, Gladys Roland and 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; Reinhold and LauraRominsky- Ryskey; brothers; Clarence Ryskey, Rudolph Ryskey and Arnold Ryskey and one sister Alice Pflanzer

Malcolm Ortego III, 46 of Poplar Bluff, died Friday May 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 4, 1965 in New Orleans, LA  There will be a graveside memorial service Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff at 3PM with the Rev. Keith Fry officiating.

Malcolm had formerly lived in New Orleans, LA  but rode a bus to Poplar Bluff in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina.  He attended Central Missioanary Baptist Church while he lived here.  He had  been a hotel manager for Marriot Corporation.  He enjoyed bingo, books, history and astronomy.  He is survived by his father Malcolm Ortego Jr. of Del Platt LA and a brother William Bryan Ortego of Poplar Bluff; nephews Bryan Ortego, Ryan Ortego, and Joshua Ortego and a niece Lyta Ortego

He was preceded in death by his mother; Esther “Clark” Ortego

Billy Thurston

Billy Raymon Thurston, age 64 , passed away Thursday May 5, 2011 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.  Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Mo. Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo.

Mr. Thurston was born November 16, 1946 in Poplar Bluff, MO.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He served in the United States Army and had also worked for a trash service. 

He enjoyed fishing, and listening to music.

He is survived by one sister, Virginia Gray of Poplar Bluff and one brother, Robert Thurston of Qulin.

John Daniel Jaco

John Daniel Jaco passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 at the age of 42. Visitation will be Monday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel.  Rev. Ralph Mays  will officiat. Burial in the City Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Mr. Jaco was born June 12, 1967 to parents Teddy Jaco and Jannetta “McCallister” Jaco, in Ft. Worth, Texas. 

 He was a resident of Butler County since 1991, but had formerly lived in  Ft. Worth, Texas.

 On May 22, 1989 he married Pamela Allsbrooks. She survives.

 He enjoyed mechanic work, fast cars, fishing and spending time with his family.

 He is survived by his wife, Pamela Jaco, children, Johnny Jaco Jr. and Marissa Jaco of Poplar Bluff; his father, Teddy Jaco of Poplar Bluff.

Sisters; Vicki Sharp, Branson, Mo., Teddy Jaco, Ft. Worth, Tx. Kim Ziegler, Springfield, Penny Simpson, Ft. Worth, Tx., Ellen Oxly, Poplar Bluff, and Becky Jaco, Qulin.

 He is preceded in death by his mother, Jannetta Jaco and two brothers, Richard Jaco and David Jaco.
