Thelmon L. Starnes

Thelmon L. Starnes, 82, of  Neelyville, Missouri passed away December 12, 2011 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. He was born November11, 1929 in Alabama to the late Oliver Starnes and Ada Huffman Starnes.

In 1949, he was married to Martha Lou Laymon in Piggott Ark., she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters Debbie and Sheila as well as 1 sister Bertha Lou, 2 brothers Thurman Starnes and wife Mary Lou of Malden Mo. and Alfred Starnes and wife Alice of Tennessee and 1 special friend, Gage Barker. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

As a resident of Neelyville, he enjoyed fishing as well as coon hunting and was of the Assembly of God faith. Mr. Starnes will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Services will be Thursday  December 15, 2011 with a visitation starting at 10:00 am and funeral following at 11:00 am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo.. Burial will be in the Coon Island Cemetery with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Rose Lee Landers

Rose Lee Landers, 92 of Naylor, Missouri, passed away at her residence on December 9, 2011. she was born April 4, 1919 at Mobile, Alabama to the late  James Martin Pierce and Claudia Elizabeth Carr.

On December 23, 1935 at Canalou, Missouri she was married to Leslie William Landers. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2003.

She is survived by One Sister, Ola Dean Hublick of Harrison, Arkansas. as well as five special nieces.

Services for Mrs Landers will be Visitation  starting at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m., with burial in the Fairdealing Cemetery. Rick White officiating.

Richard Wayne Kempen Jr.

Richard Wayne Kempen Jr. 43 of Naylor, Missouri passed away December 9, 2011 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was born August 1, 1968 at St.Louis, Missouri, to Richard Wayne Kempen Sr. and the Late Donna Leonard Moore.

On December 1, 1010 at Doniphan, Missouri he was married to Brenda Casteel. She survives.

He is survived by, One daughter,Heather Ann Kempen of Naylor, Missouri, His father. Richard Sr. of Festus, Missouri, His grandmother Catherine Leonard of Naylor, Missouri. Two Sisters, Katheryn Marie Knapp and Ashley Nicole Moore both of Naylor, Missouri. His step father Rick Moore of Naylor, Missouri and step Grandmother, Wanda Moore of Doniphan, Missouri.

Services for Rick will be visitation starting at 11:30 am till 12:30 pm with a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. in the Naylor Memorial Cemetery. Donnie Fowler officiating.

Charles Vernon Baney

Charles Vernon Baney, 76 of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, departed this life on December 6, 2011 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born December 23, 1934 to the late Johnnie Baney and Glonda Moore Baney at Alicia, Arkansas.

He was a farmer by trade and enjoyed playing musical instruments and visiting with friends and family. He had served in the National Guard.  He had formerly lived in Coon Island, Missouri.

Mr Baney is survived by Three Sons, Laverne Baney of Irving, Illinois, Vincent Baney of Poplar Bluff, Mo and Charles Luke Baney of New Douglas, Illinois. Two Daughters, Mary M. Whitt of Washville, Illinios,  and Sarah Baney of Qulin, mo.. Three Sisters, Lola Raymer of Lilborn, Mo., Viola James of Clarkton, Mo and Judy Tarketon of Gideon, Mo., three Brothers, Dean Baney of Anna, Illinois, Rayburn Baney ofClarkton, Mo. and David Baney of Clarkton, Mo.  He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers, Adrain and Johnnie Avon Baney.

Services for Mr. Baney will be, visitation Thursday December 8, 2011 starting at 6:oo p.m. with the funeral Friday starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Misosuri. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri with Rev. Ernest Bennett officiating.

Delores Ryan

Delores L. Ryan, of Williamsville, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 4, 2011, at her home. 

Mrs. Ryan was born October 15, 1918, in Herrin, Ill.  She had lived in Williamsville for 11 years.  Mrs Ryan was of the Baptist faith.  Retired, she had worked as a nurse’s aide.  She liked wildlife and writing. 

In 1934, she married Roy Fulcher at Cobben, Ill.  He preceded her in death. 

Survivors include two daughters, Kaye Stoff of  Baldwin, Mo., and Kitty Tipton of Williamsville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

No  services are planned at this time.  Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home of Poplar Bluff, in charge of arrangements.

Francis Reba Spears (Prevatt)

Francis Reba Spears (Prevatt) of Harviell, Mo., passed away Friday, December 2, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. 

She was born September  23, 1944 in Higdon, Arkansas.  She had lived in Harviell for the past 35 years and formerly lived in California.  She was  of the Southern Baptist faith and had worked as a cake decorator. 

She loved computers, Facebook, reading, cooking and sewing and loved being with her grandchildren. 

On July 9, 1960, she was married to Thomas Jennings Prevatt.  He preceded her in death on January 9, 1989.

Surviving are her children, Sheila Swofford and husband, David, of Virginia Beach, Va., Shelli Donley and husband, Greg, and Robin Fears and husband, Russel, all of Harviell,  Mo., Sherri Butler and husband, Tony, of Poplar Bluff; her mother, Muriel (Rollins) Bates of Poplar Bluff; her sister, Ruth Withrow of Poplar Bluff; her brother, Ernest Bates of Poplar Bluff; her grandchildren, Dani, Shawn, Amanda, Mychael, Jessica, Joshua, Tarah, Laura, Kyle and Kayli; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Marley, Beau, Jonathon, Mattie and arriving soon, Ledger and Carson.

She was preceded in death by her father,  William Bates; a sister, Carolyn Sexton; and a brother, Jimmy Bates.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m., at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. with Pastor Stephen Patterson officiating.  Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Memorial Garden Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

Bernice Soares Moore

Bernice Soares Moore , of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away December 2, 2011 at the Saint Frances Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 24 days. 

Mrs. Moore  was born July 8, 1937,  in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late William Machado and Annie (Verez) Machado.  She had been a Butler County resident for the last 15 years.  She was a member of the Poplar Bluff Apostolic Worship Center and enjoyed traveling, cooking and had been a cook at the Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo. 

On August 28, 1977, she was married to Michael V. Moore, in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He survives. 

Other survivors include her children; Glory and husband, Isaiah Song and Polly and husband, Teddy Conterbury,  of Honolulu, Hawaii; Edwina and partner, Tony, of Providence, Rhode Island; Verna and partner, Tammy; Lynette and husband, Filipe Sanchez; Alfred and wife, Marie Soars; Drina and husband, Addison Medeiros, all of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Wayne and partner, Jacklyn of Poplar Bluff. Also surviving are her sisters, Dorothy, Diane, Lucille and Margret; 26 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie Machado.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Monday December 5, 2011, at the Poplar Bluff Apostolic Worship Center, with Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.  Burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Missouri.

Helen Shirlene Urich

Helen Shirline Urich, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away November 30, 2011, at her home, at the age of 74.    

Mrs. Urich was born December 17, 1936, at Hermandale, Mo. , to the late Claud Lampley Sr. and Bertha (Ham) Lampley.   On February 27, 1954, at Halcomb, Mo. she was married to Lester Urich.  He survives. 

She was a life time resident of Butler County and enjoyed fishing, getting on E-Bay and loved antiques.  She was a member to the Fisk General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Urich; son, Dale Urich and his wife, Joyce of Watkinsville, Georgia; sister, Dortha Payne of Qulin; brother, Sonny Lampley of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Lorrie Arms, Dusty Urich and Matthew Urich; great-grandchildren, Ian Urich, Chelsea Merritt, Joe Moss, Zach Arms, and Lexie Arms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud Lampley Sr. and Bertha Lampley; brothers, Jerry Lampley, Bobby Lampley, Bill Lampley, Earl Lampley and Arnold Lampley.  

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2011 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the chapel with Pastor Greg Whittle officiating.  Burial in Brown Chapel Cemetery.
