Velta Lucinda Cox Franklin

Velta Cox Franklin, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away May 28, 2012 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center at Poplar Bluff, Missouri.She was born December 8, 1930 to the late Perry Cox and Hallie Smith Cox.

On January 18, 1960 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri she was married to David Franklin. He survives.

also surviving are her children, Mary Ann Kirkley and husband Mark of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Peggy Sue Green of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, David Cox and wife Debbie of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Bill Cox Sr. and wife Vicki of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Jerry Franklin ofPoplar Bluff, Missouri. She is also survived by one son-in-law Wayne Sheppard of Harviell, Missouri.  Also 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren survive.

Velta was preceded in death by one daughter, Rhonda Jean Sheppard on September 26, 2001, on son, Gary Cox, one great granddaughter Aliyah Green one grandson David Dwight Franklin as well as one son-in-law, Donnie Green.

Velta enjoyed quilting, sewing, going to yard sales, gardening and going to Branson. But most of all she deeply loved her family and she always found reasons to celebrate with them. She was a member of the Lone Hill Missionary Baptist Church for 38 years.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday May 30, 2012 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Missouri with the funeral Thursday May 31, 2012 starting at 10:00 am. Burial will be in the Lone Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Gilbert officiating and Rev Billy Garrett assisting.

Paul Eugene Riley

Paul Eugene Riley, 49 of Neelyville, Missouri, passed away at his residence May 24, 2012. He was born August 27, 1962 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to the late Oscar Marion Riley and to Norma Murrell Riley.

He is survived by one daughter, Heather Riley of Harviell, Missouri his mother Norma Riley of Neeyville, Missouri three sisters, Linda Riley , Shawnee Kansas, Janice Crockett of Hackett, Arkansas and Nellie Riley of Neelyville, Missouri. One brother also survives, Daniel Riley of Centralia, Missouri, as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He enjoyed working on automobiles, work with metal in the shop and riding motorcycles.

A memorial visitation  was held May 28, 2012 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Missouri starting at 5:00 p.m. til 7:00 p.m.

Benita Bernice Wilson

Benita Bernice Wilson, 61 of Butler county passed away May 26, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Visitation will be 6-8PM  Thurs May 31 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff.  A graveside service will begin at 10AM Friday, June 1, 2012 at Black Creek Cemetery with Rev. Charles Kelley officiating. 

Ms. Wilson was born May 2, 1951 in Poplar Bluff.  She was a lifetime resident of Butler County.  She was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church.  She was a CNA and had worked for Butler County In Home Healthcare.  She enjoyed reading,  spending time with her grandchildren, music and loved life. 

She is survived by her longtime companion Freddy Eugene Moore Sr.; her 5  children; Robert Leon Wilson of Poplar Bluff, Lisa Bernice Wilson of Poplar Bluff, Angelia Lynn Peoples of Poplar Bluff, Brandy Kay Moore of Poplar Bluff and Penny Eltannir of Poplar Bluff.  Her mother, Lottie Bernice Tanksley of Poplar Bluff; 2 sisters; Edith Tanksley Bohannon of Poplar Bluff, Brenda Joyce Granger and husband Ernest “Buzzy” of Florida, a brother, Benjamin Richard Tanksley Jr. “Sonny” and wife Angela of Poplar Bluff; 24 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

Ms. Wilson was preceded in death by her father; Benjamin Tanksley, sons, Jeffrey Eugene Moore, and Freddie Eugene Moore Jr.

CHARLES WILLIAM “BILL” SPENCER

Charles William “Bill” Spencer, 73 of Poplar Bluff , Mo., passed away May 23, 2012 at Westwood Hills Healthcare.  A memorial visitation will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. in the chapel, with Jack Armor officiating. 

Mr. Williams was born October 27, 1938, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  He was a lifetime resident of Poplar Bluff and was of the Baptist faith.  He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was a self employed carpenter and enjoyed fishing, wood working, and reading. 

He is survived by his children, Anna Vaughn and husband, William of Poplar Bluff, Charles A. Spencer and wife, Heather of Poplar Bluff, Peter Bennett of Dexter and Nicky Nesbitt and wife Donna, of Fisk; 3 sisters, Lucille Gamble of Poplar Bluff, Anna Dorris of Poplar Bluff and Cybil Nohr; a brother, Fred McMillin; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nellie (Kilgore) Spencer; a daughter, Angela Bennett Mills, and sister, Sandra Hodge.

Samuel Alfred Williams

Samuel Alfred Williams, 58, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday May 22, 2012 at Saint Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. 

Mr. Williams was born on October 23, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, and was a lifetime resident of Butler County.  He had worked for Poplar Bluff Street Department and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.   On March 19, 1977, he was married to Pearl Green in Butler County Missouri. She survives.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Tanya Williams of Poplar Bluff and Brandi Stoneman of Artesia, New Mexico; three sisters, Peggy Head, Edna Williams and Ann Williams, all of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Melvin Williams of Fisk and seven grandchildren, Devon Williams, Amaya Richard, Jayden Molina, Jordan Molina, Jarron Williams, Jasmin Molina and Arrissa Williams. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Williams and Ruby (Pettigrew) Williams; one sister, Carol Helms; two brothers, Charles Williams and Jimmy Williams.

Services for Mr. Williams will be Friday May 25 , 2012, with visitation begining at 12p.m. and funeral services to follow at 1p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Burial in  Ash Hill Cemetery near Fisk, Mo.

Marvin R. Carner

Marvin R. Carner 62 of St.ouis, Missouri, passed away at the St.Louis University May 20, 2012. He was born January 11, 1950 at Doniphan, Missouri to the late Claudie and Mary Russell Carner.

On February 22, 1998  at St Louis, Missouri he was married to Trenda Peters. She survives.

Also surviving; Children, Melissa Carner of St. Charles, Mo., Misty Myers and husband Raual of Pevely, Missouri and Carl Pitts and wife Donna of Pevely, Missouri. also one brother Tommy Carner and wife Nina of Jonesboro, Arkansas, as well as his grandchidren, Shylah Monroy, Gavin Monroy, and Tommy Pitts.

Marvin was  formerly of  Naylor , Missouri. He had work as a dispatcher for a trucking company. He enjoyed baseball and music.

Visitation for Marvin will be Thursday May 24, 2012 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, starting at 12:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in the Naylor Memorial Cemetery with Earl Ladyman officiating.

Michael David Gibson Jr

Michael David Gibson Jr. 35 of Houston, Texas passed away at his residence May 13, 2012. He was born in Lubbock, Texas February 20, 1977 to The late Michael David Gibson Sr. and Sonja Pilgreen.

Formerly of Doniphan, Missouri, Michael was married to Debra Horn on April 27, 1996 at Doniphan, Missouri. She survives.

Also surviving, three children Christian Michael Gibson of  Doniphan, Missouri, Jordan Donna Gibson and Jasmine Nicole Gibson both of Houston, Texas. His Mother Sonja Gibson and grand parents, Hughie and Imogene Gibson and Laverne Blaylock and Kellie Pilgreen.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, two sons, Brice Alexander Gibson and David Riley Gibson and one sister, Donna Lynn Gibson.

Michael had serviced in the United States Air Force and the Missouri National Gaurd.

visitation for Michael will be Tuesday May 22, 2012 starting at 12.:00 p.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Mo. with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Buiral will be in the New Hope Cemetery near Doniphan, Missouri.

WILLIAM ANDREW BRIDGEMAN

William Andrew Bridgeman, 87 of Essex,  passed away May 14, 2012 at Crowley Ridge Nursing Home in Dexter, MO  He was born April 6, 1925, in Glennon, MO  to the late Andrew Bridgeman and Anna Hosenfelt-  Bridgeman.   He had formerly lived in Germany, Arizona and Virginia.  He  retired from the US Army.  He was married to Barbara Bridgeman and she died April 2004.  He enjoyed cars.  He had served in the Navy and the Army.  He was in WW II

He is survived by a nephew Terry Baker, niece Sharon Hart and sister-in-law Almeda Bridgeman. 

He was preceded in death byhis father Andrew Bridgeman and mother, Anna Bridgeman, and   brothers; George Bridgeman and Wes Bridgeman and sister Christina Baker.

No services are planned for Mr. Bridgeman.

Dorris Dale Sowells

Dorris Dale Sowells, 72 of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away May 12, 2012 in the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center at Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  He was born February 4, 1940 at Kennett, Missouri to the late Marvin Sowells and Ina Breedon Sowells.

On October 9, 1957 at Muncie, Indiana He was married to Edna Mae Warrell. She survives.

Also surviving, Children, Jimmy Dale Sowells of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Ruth Ann Sowells Nations and husband Danny Dawsonville, Georgia, Brenda Kay Sowells Cordova and husband Robert of Pervis, Mississippi. as well as six grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents as well as one sister Nell Ruth Mount and one Brother Clifford Sowells,and one grandchild.

Mr. Sowells was a member of the Harviell Pentecostal Church and had served in the United States Army between the Korea and Vietnam war. He enjoyed his church, walking,  and his wifes cooking.

A graveside service will be held May 16, 2012 in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana  starting at 11:00 a.m.. Donnie Fowler officiating.

Vida Nipper

Vida Nipper, 88 , 0f  Naylor, Missouri passed away May 11, 1012 at her residence in Naylor, Missouri. She was born  June 20, 1923 at Catron, Missouri, to the late Samuel Mayher and Mary Swan Mayher.

On September 20, 1940 at Caruthersville, Missouri Vida was married to Monroe “Monk” Nipper. He preceded her in death July 17, 1989.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her sister in law and care giver Helen Hobbs of Naylor, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, as well as her sisters, Maggie Weatherly, Helen Young, Hazel Vent, Burley Evans and Effie Mayher as well as her brothers, Jack Mayher, Elmer Mayher, Velbert Jigs Mayher and Pay Mayher.
