Ada Bell Songer

Ada Bell Songer, 79 of Neelyville, Missouri, Passed away in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was born January 17, 1933 at Neelylville, Missouri to the late John Green Whitt and Violet Hargate Whitt.

She is survived by one son, Vernon Songer of McDougal, Arkansas and two sisters, Betty Becker of Black Jack, Missouri,and Ruby Whitt of Neelyville, Missouri, Four brothers, Clarence Whitt of Bunker Hill, Illinois, Jerry Whitt of Neelyville, Mo., Rick Whitt of Neelyville, Mo. Lonnie Whitt of Walshville, Illinois. four Grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in two sisters, Stella Hogan and Mary Lee Roberts and one brother, John Whitt.

Ada had attended the Church on The Rock at St. Peters where she helped organized the church.She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, and puzzles.

Services for Ada will be a 2:00 p.m. graveside service September 26, 2012 at the Coon island Cemetery. Rev Ernest Bennett Jr will officiate. Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Charge of arrangments.

Shirley Emma Doty

Shirley Emma Doty,age 68, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012, at her residence. 

Mrs. Doty was born July 8, 1944, in Heflin Alabama.  She had lived in Butler County for 53 years.  She was a cook for  W.E. Sears Youth Center and enjoyed making dolls, collecting butterflies, cooking and crocheting.

On September 30, 1960, she was married to George Doty in Plano, IL.  He survives of the home. 

She is  also survived by her two children, Janice Slavings and George Doty II, both of Poplar Bluff; four sisters, Sue Reynolds of Tucson, Az.,  Betty Knapton of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dawn Lucas of Washington State and Gail Martin of Nashville, Tn.; one brother, Louis Reynolds of Northern, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jamey Wawak, Autumn Wawak, Nikita Doty, George R. Doty III, Anastacia R. Doty, Brian Greer, Chastie Slavings and Dakota Slavings; two great-grandchildren; Zoey Wawak and Hermione Wawak

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Reynolds and Sue (Nelson) Reynolds; and one  brother, John Reynolds. 

Visitation will begin at 1p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 followed by funeral services at 2 p.m.  at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home Poplar Bluff 844 Cedar Street, with the Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating.  Burial will be in Three Springs Cemetery.

Ronnie Thurman

Ronnie Eugene Thurman, age 68,  of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at his home. 

Mr. Thurman was born November 5, 1943,in Boekerton, MO  to parents William Rufus Thurman and Vivian Beauton ( Disher) Thurman.  He was also  a  resident of Portageville, Mo.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was an over the road truck driver.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and member of the Elks and Eagles.  He enjoyed dancing with his wife, Norma and was of Christian faith.  

Mr. Thurman was married to Norma  Nell Warbington in 1989 at Portageville, Mo.  She survives. 

Other survivors include one son, Douglas Scott Thurman and six step-children; Linda Mills, Bob Rushin, Bill Rushin, Rick Rushin, Kay Stone and Jim Rushin; one grandchild, Hunter Thurman; and other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; William Rufus Thurman, and Vivian Beauton Disher-Thurman; one brother, Billy Dale Thurman.

Visitation will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 22 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will follow at 1PM Saturday with Brother Todd Spence officiating.   Burial will be in Cochran Cemetery.

Leslie Jay Spitzer

Leslie Jay Spitzer, 85 of Naylor, Missouri, passed away September 17, 2012 in the Poplar Bluff Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouril He was born August 27, 1927 at Bells, Tennessee to the late Will Spitzer and Ruth Russell Spitzer.

On October 27, 1978 at Naylor, Missouri he was married to Gloria Marr. She survives. Also surviving is one Son; Dennis Spitzer and wife Deborah of Wentzville, Missouri and one daughter; Deborah Spitzer Brown and husband Bill of Cedar Hill, Missouri. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Katherine Adams, and Jason and Zachary Brown as well as four great grandchildren; Cooper Brown, Riley Brown, Tristan Adams and Cameron Adams.

Mr. Spitzer was a self employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a avid cardinal baseball fan. He enjoyed his family and church as well as gardening.

Visitation will be Thursday September 20, 2012  starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Corning Cemetery in Corning, Arkansas following services. Dalton Spitzer and Dennis Spitzer officiating.

Quentin Carl Sappington, 83, of Naylor, passed away Sept. 15, 2012 at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan, MO.

Mr. Sappington was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Searcy Arkansas.  He had formerly lived in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He had worked as a chef for Chase Park Plaza Restaurant and was a minister and pastor for churches in the Piedmont and Ellington area. 

Mr Sappington is survived byone sister, Delavina Ferren of Poplar Bluff and many nieces and nephews

Mr Sappington was preceded in death by his parents John Wesley Sappington and Sarah Elizabeth (Keith) Sappington; 4 brothers, John, Forest, James and Grady Sappington. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St, Poplar Bluff, Mo., at 11a.m., with service to follow at 1 p.m., with Donnie Fowler officiating.  Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Ellsinore, Mo, with full military rites.

Donald Ray Brown

Donald Ray Brown, 52 of Naylor, Mo. passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Heritage Gardens in Senath, Missouri. He was born May 3, 1960 in Corning, Arkansas to the late George Fay Brown and Loretta Jewell Kinkade Brown.

He is survived by; one son, Austin Brown of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, one daughter, Kala Brown Caudel and husband Justin of North Carolina; one sister Phyllis Guthrie and husband David of Naylor, Mo. and two brothers, Clifford Brown and wife Zeta, of Kennett, Mo. and Mike Brown and Wife, Kim, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. One granddaughter also survives, Adison Rose Caudel; as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was a cabinet builder and had graduated from Naylor High School in 1978. He had played basketball for Three Rivers College in 1979 and was all conference for the School of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, baseball and basketball.

He was preceded in death by his father Fay Brown on June 30, 1989 and Mother Loretta Brown on January 22, 2003,

Visitation for Don will Friday September14, 2012 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel starting at 6:00 p.m. with funeral Saturday September 15, 2012 starting at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be in the Naylor Memorial Cemetery following services, with Earl Ladyman officiating.

Virginia Ann Crossen

Virginia Ann Crossen, 67, of Neelyville, Missouri was born December 11, 1944 in Neelyville, Mo. to the late Samuel Crossen and Violet Cates Crossen.

She is survived by one brother; Sammie Crossen and wife Sharolette. two sisters, Beverly Washburn and Donnia Crossen and husband Dave, Sam Crossen and wife Teri, Master Sgt. USMA Scoot Crossen and wife Jennifer, Kelly Hasty and husband Stan and Ron Richardson and wife Penny. Twenty one great nieces and nephews and 7 great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as one sister Ava Janeen Crossen.

She was a life long resident of the Neelyville area and had worked as a secretary receptionist for Hillcrest Animal Hospital. She enjoyed Quilting for the family, reading and Genealogy. she was a member of the  American Legion Genealogy Club and a MO-Ark Baptist Church.

Visitation for Mrs Crossen wil be Friday September 7, 2012 starting at 5:00 p.m. with the funeral Saturday September 8, 2012 starting at 1:00 p.m. with burial in the Corning Cemetery following services. Donnie Fowler officiating.

George Nall

George Wayne Ray Nall passed away, September 3, 2012, at The Manor in Poplar Bluff. 

Mr. Nall was born October 27, 1953 in Hayti, Missouri.  He was a former resident of Colorado and a member of Standfield Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles and working on cars. 

Survivors include his sons, Michael Nall of Fredricktown, Mo., George Wayne Ray Nall II of Fisk, Mo. and Anthony of Doniphan, Mo.; seven sisters, Joann Broadway of Kennett, Mo., Sandra Parker of Florida, Linda Buhler of Poplar Bluff, Carol Wilburn of Indiana, Olive Early of Poplar Bluff, Tammy Bailey of Indiana and Mary Early of Poplar Bluff; four brothers, Frank Nall of Clarkton, George Nall of Minnesota, Albert Nall of North Carolina, Johnathan Nall of Nebraska; and two grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Charles Steven Clark

Charles Steven Clark, age 54, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, August 31, 2012.

Mr. Clark was born November 3, 1957, in Poplar Bluff, to the late Delmar “Tobe” Willis Clark and Maxine Lavina (Marler) Clark.  He was a lifetime resident of Butler County.  He had worked as a truck driver.  He enjoyed St. Louis Blues hockey, feeding wildlife and spending time with his stepson, Chris.

On October 5, 2005, he married Athanasia (Kantzri) Clark.  She survives. 

Also surviving are two stepchildren, Christopher Schulz and Linda Schulz, both of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Marilyn Clark Weaver; one brother Jerry Lynn Clark and wife, Lota, of Palestine, Texas; longtime friend, Jackie; and several cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Robert Lemoine Randolph

Robert Lemoine Randolph, age 84, of Murfreesboro, Tn. died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at home following and en extended illness.

He was born June 20, 1928 in Roseville, Ill. but had lived in Murfreesboro, Tn. the last 28 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin F. and Harriet Meachum Randolph.Five sisters, Mary Ellen Kirby, Bessie Hall, Mae Neill, Margaret Adkisson and Frances Shallenberger. three brothers, Thomas Palmer Randolph, Marvin Randolph, George Randolph, and special nephew Marvin Kirby.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Gayle Zitnak; daughter Sue (Dan) Elliott of Cameron, Il. and sons, Marshall  (Kim) Randolph of Monmouth,Il., and Tony (Patti Randolph of Henderson Il. Seven grandchildren; Michelle Elliott of Chicago, Il. Doug (Erin) Elliott of Cameron, Ill Greg (Carissa) Elliott of monticello, Il. Jeremy Randolph and Travis Randolph both of Galesburg, Illlinois and David (Jan) Randolph of  Goldsboro, North Carolina and Jenna Randolph of Biloxia, Miss. and one sister Nina Booch of Hagerstown, MD.

Mr. Randolph farmed and worked 21 years in production and supervision at Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg, Il. After moving to Tennessee, He worked in Security and for several years managed the Farmers Market. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion and American Miniature Horse Association. He dearly loved his little horses and Pomeranian dog. “Dinky”

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday,m September 2, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Neelyville, Mo. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. til service time at 1:00. Rev Donnie Fowler will officiate, and Burial will follow in Fairdealing Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandchildren.
