John Riley Ratliff

John Riley Ratliff passed away Saturday October 13, 2012 at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  He was 77.

Mr. Ratliff was born August 13, 1935 in Kirksville, Missouri.  He was a former resident of Casa Grande, Arizona.   He was a truck driver and served in the U.S. Army, Airborne Ranger, during the Korean Conflict. 

He is survived by three sisters and two brothers. 

Preceding him death are his parents Joseph Ratliff and Claudia (Overstreet) Ratliff.

Rev. Cecil Hillis

Rev. Cecil Eugene Hillis, 81, of Poplar Bluff, went to his Heavenly home Monday, October 15, 2012, at his residence.  

Mr. Hillis was born April 19, 1931, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late Walter Charles Hillis and Eva Marie (Strange) Hillis.  He was a lifetime resident of Butler County.  Mr. Hillis was an ordained Southern Baptist Minister and Deacon.  He was brick and masonry layer by trade.  He enjoyed laying bricks, playing volleyball with the children and grandchildren and loved doing auctions.  He also owned and operated three school buses for years.  He was a  member of Fairview Southern Baptist Church where he was the song leader.  He pastored many churches in the area. 

On January 13, 1952, he married Genevia (Chatman) at Harviell, Mo.  She survives. 

 Also surviving are his children, Lawrence Eugene Hillis and his wife, Janet of Poplar Bluff, Gracie Ann Holford and husband, Richard of Alamogordo, New Mexico., Teddy Mack Hillis and his wife, Cheryl of Noble Oklahoma, Nancy June Dunivan and husband, Chris of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Lola Feverston of Poplar Bluff and one brother, Arthur Hillis of Poplar Bluff; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Eva Hillis; his sisters, Dessie Mae Hillis, Ethel Welch and Dorothy Mayes; four brothers, Ernie Hillis, Verley Hillis Willard Hillis and Charles Hillis. 

Visitation for Rev. Hillis will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services will be held at  11am Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the chapel with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev Jerry Metcalf officiating.  Burial will be in Dunning Cemetery.

Kenneth Albert Roebuck, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went to his Heavenly home Monday, October 15, 2012, at his residence. 

Mr. Roebuck was born March 30, 1937, in Lawerence, Mass.  He had previously lived in Jackson, Mo., and most of his life in Massachusetts.  Mr. Roebuck attended Southside Assembly of God.  He had worked at Wang Laboratories, a computer manufacturing factory.  Ken loved reading books.  He loved to read his Bible and talk about Heaven.   He enjoyed telling funny jokes and making  people laugh, as well as writing letters  and keeping in touch with family and friends.  He taught Sunday School for over 25 years in Mass. He was an interesting speaker, which people loved.    

On February 2, 1987, he married Verna Hays, in Massachusetts.  She survives.  Also surviving are his two children, David Roebuck and wife Cindy,of Orlando, Florida and Brenda Davis of Methun Ma; three step children, Julie Epps  and husband, Glenn of Poplar Bluff, Chris and husband, John Guerrero of Jackson, Mo. and Col. Glenn Hillis II, of Washington, D.C. ;  one brother, Charles and wife, Vee Roebuck of San Diego, CA and a brother-in-law, Bobby Hays of Doniphan;  his grandchildren, Lacey and Ryan Sampson of Haverhill, Ma.; step-grandchildren, Glenn Epps III of Puxico, Aaron Epps of Poplar Bluff, Adam Epps of Poplar Bluff and Caroline Hillis of Maryland; numerous great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one cousin, Doris Fleek.

Visitation will be 6p.m. Wed. October 17, 2012, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thurs. October 18, 2012, at the Southside Assembly of God Church, 512 West Midland St., Poplar Bluff, with Pastor Jerry Lemons and Rev. Glenn Epps III officiating.  Burial will be in Corning Cemetery in Corning Arkansas.

Joyce A. Kinsey

Joyce Addel Kinsey, age 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of  Ripley County, Mo., passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Westwood Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  

Mrs. Kinsey was born July 5, 1937, at Chico, California.  She was a member of Victory Fellowship Church of God in Fairdealing. Mo.  She was employed in home health care.  Her hobbies were flower gardening.  She enjoyed her pets and she loved her grandson, Skyler.

Survivors are her children Wayne and wife, Lynn Kinsey of Poplar Bluff, David Kinsey of Atlanta, Ga. and LeAnn Kinsey of Pole, Alaska; a brother, Thomas Stuart of Fairdealing, and grandsons, Skyler Kinsey and Brooks Dunkin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Stuart and Vera (Hemingway) Stuart, and a sister, Carol Paoli.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday October 13, 2012 at Kinsey Cemetery near Harviell, Mo.,  with Bishop Kent Miller officiating. 

 Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.

Ken Presson, 73, of Aurora, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2012 at Cox Medical Center in Springfield,Mo. 

 Mr. Presson was born December 8, 1938 in Broseley, Mo. He was a retired school administrator.   Mr. Presson enjoyed hunting, fishing and time spent with family.  He was a member of the Gideons International and Retired Teachers Association.  He was also in the National Guard.

On September 5, 1970 he married Carol Dickensheets in Hannibal, Mo. and she survives.  Also surviving are children, Kenna McCleery(Brian)  and Justin “Jay” Presson(Debbie) ; 3 sisters, Mavis Presson, Joyce Absheer, and Carolyn Eddy, and four grandchildren.

Mr Presson was preceded in death by his parents, Les Presson and Flossie May-Presson and his brother Coy Presson

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the First Church of God 3482 South Westwood, Poplar Bluff, Mo.    Funeral service will begin at 11:30 at the church, with Rev. Richard Triplett officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated funds to be donated to: Berean Christian Academy, P.O. Box 506,  Monett, MO  65708 or Gideons International P.O. Box 412 Poplar Bluff, MO  63902 or the family has also set up an account at People’s Community State Bank in Poplar Bluff.

Lou Ann Lawrence

Lou Ann Lawrence, 44 of Doniphan, Mo. passed away October 2, 2012 at her home in Doniphan. She was born April 11, 1968 in Princeton, Indiana to Homer Byrley and the late Frances (Dunham) Byrley.

She is survived by, her father Homer Leroy Byrley of Pocahontas, Ark., Four Sons; Joshua Byrley, Jesse Hensley, Jacob Hensley and Jeremy Hensley all of Doniphan, Missouri. Also surviving are  Six Sisters, Loretta Buck of Vero Beech, Florida, Cindy Barthley of Petersburg, Indiana, Kathy Peoples of Maynard, Arkansas, Paula Byrley of Fairdealing, Mo. , Rebecca Alexander of Biggers, Ark. and Alice Miller of Maynard, Ark. as well as Three Brothers, Carl Carrithers of Pocahontas, Ark. Darrel Carrithers of Batesville, Ark. and Richard Byrley of Batesville, Arkansas. Seven Grandchildren also survive.

She was a CNA and enjoyed gardening, her children and grandchildren, talking with friends and family.

There will a graveside services Monday October 8, 2012 at the Old Union Cemetery at 1:30 pm near Imboden, Arkansas. Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Mo is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Ray McComb

Donald Ray (Kool) McComb, 46 of Neelyville, Missouri, passed away October 3, 2012 in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born to the late Lee K. McComb and Betty Jean (Mcfadden) McComb. October 6, 1965 at Neelyville, Mo.

He is survived by his Mother Betty Jean McComb of Neelyville, Missouri. His Grandmother Mary Austin of Detroit, Michigan. Seven Sisters, Catherine Anderson of St.Louis, Mo., Brenda L. McComb of California, Christine McComb of Memphis,  Tenn.. , Lottie Watson of Texas, Emma McComb, Vivian McComb. Dorris McComb and Brenda K. McComb all of Neelyville, Mo.  Six Brothers, Johnnie B. McComb of Michigan, Les McComb of Little Rock, Arkansas, Johnny L. McComb and Lee K. McComb Jr. both of Neelyville, Missouri and Ronnie McComb of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Eddie McComb of Neelyville, Mo.

He is preceded in death by his father as well as two brothers, Robert Anderson and Steve Anderson.

Donald enjoyed Basketball, singing, fishing, and terrorizing the kids which they loved. He was a member of the Agape House of Worship.

Visitation for Donald will be Saturday October 6, 2012 starting at 10:00 am with the funeral following at 12:00pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Mo. burial will be in the Neelyville Cemetery following services. Pastor Donnell McComb will be officiating.
