John Clayton Jr.

John N. Clayton Jr., 90 of Naylor, Mo., died Sunday, Oct 27, 2013, at Westwood Hills Health Care.

Mr Clayton was born March 15, 1923, in Gatewood, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Pensacola. He was a blacksmith who enjoyed Cardinal baseball and going to the coffee shop. He also coached girl’s softball teams.

Survivors include his children, Norma Mattingly and husband, Charles, of Des Arc, Mo., Jenny Hudson and husband, Joe, of Doniphan, Mo., Martha Clayton of Harviell, Mo., John Clayton and wife, Sherry, of Naylor, and James Clayton and wife, Leeann, of Nixa, Mo.; two brothers, David Clayton of Doniphan and Joe Clayton of Sterling, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Newton Clayton Sr. and Cleo Brown Clayton, and one brother, Martin Clayton.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel with Donnie Fowler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Missouri State Veteran Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery.

Virna Brawley

Virna Lee Brawley. 77. of Doniphan, Mo. died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, in her home.

She was born aug. 5, 1936, in Shook, Mo., and had also lived at Oxly, Mo. She was a homemaker and a memberof the Oxly United Pentecostal Church.

Mrs Brawley enjoyed her children, grandchidlren, sewing, gardening, her church, house plants and crafts.

She married Austin Murray and he preceded her in death. Then she married Ewing King Brawley and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her children, Rosemary McConnaughay and husband,Jim, of Oxly, Danny Murray and wife, Marie, of Doniphan, Regina “Renay” Rivas and husband, Rudy, of Oxly, Bill Murray and wife, Kandy, of Doniphan, James Murray and wife, Angela, of Doniphan and Paula Foulk and husband, Jason, of Big Timber, Mont.; two sisters, Vergie Nunn of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Vernell Luke of Williamsville, Mo.; two brothers, Virgil Osborn of Williamsville and Vernon Osborn of Poplar Bluff; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Mary Gilbreath Osborn. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Oxly United Pentecostal Church. The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Jeff McConnaughay officiating. Burial will be at Black Cemetery near Success, Ark.

Cheryl Smith

Cheryl Ann Smith, age 48, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Mrs. Smith was born March 9, 1965 in Granite City, Ill.  She was an elementary teacher in the Neelyville School system.  She loved teaching and developing children’s minds.  She loved her family and her church and she enjoyed crafts. She was a member of the Palace of Praise Church in Poplar Bluff and the Missouri Teachers Association.

On June 10, 1983 she married Bob Smith, in Granite City, Ill.  He survives.

Also surviving include her children, Matthew Smith and wife, Kasie, Nicole Burden and husband, Brad, and Sarah Willard and husband, Nick; her parents, Paul and Syble Hillis; her mother-and father-in-law; James and Bonnie Smith; a sister, Beverly Smith (Mike); three brothers, David Hillis (Sherry), Steve Hillis (Edna), Timothy Hillis (Stacie) and brother-in-law James Smith; two grandsons, Landon and Carson Burden and a granddaughter, Sawyer Willard.

She is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Brenda Smith and a niece, Autumn Brondell.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Palace of Praise Church, 1400 Herschel Bess Blvd., Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the church with Bishop Kent Miller officiating.  Burial held in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Lucille Kime

Lucille Fay Kime, 71, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday October 20, 2013, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff. 

Mrs. Kime was born March 31, 1942 in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania.  She was a member of Fellowship Southern Baptist Church in Harviell, Mo. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading and going to church. 

She was married to Dellus Kime.  He preceded her in death September 27, 2005.

Mrs. Kime is survived by two daughters, Trena Simpson and Tracy Boyd both of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Darlene Hahn of Pennsylvania; and brother, Richard Baughman of Pennsylvania;three grandchildren, Justin Boyd, Austin Boyd, and Joshua Simpson

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse E. Baughman and Anna Grace (Bea) Baughman

A memorial visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St.  Poplar Bluff, Mo.,  followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. with Brother Jimmy Gilbert officiating.

Ruth Ellen Graham

Ruth Ellen Graham, 77, of Naylor, Missouri passed away October 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born June 12, 1936 at Clay City, Indiana to the late Ralph Coan and Mary Alice Barley Coan.

On  July 5, 1953 at Lone Hill, Missouri she was married to Melvin Eugene Graham. He preceded her in death on Jule 27, 2010.

She is survived by her children; Eugene Graham of Naylor, Missouri and Ellen Preslar of Naylor, Missouri and Kathy Barker and husband Jackie of Naylor, Mo.. Two brothers, Albert Coan of Harviell, Missouri and Roy Coan of Aurora, Illinois. Twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also survive.

Ruth was a member of the Naylor Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, flowers, sewing , quilting.

Visitation will be 6:00 pm October 15, 2013 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Mo.. The funeral will be October 16, 2013 starting at 11:00 am in the Neelville chapel. Burial will be in the Cochran Cemetery at Harviell, Missouri. Donnie Fowlerd Officiating.

John Clifton Bayne Sr.

John Clifton Bayne Sr., 65 of Qulin, Missouri, passed away Ocotober 8, 2013  at his residence. He was born March 7, 1948 at St.Louis, Misssouri, to the late Elmo Bayne and Cora Hopkins.

On November 8, 1967 at St.Louis, Missouri He was married to Jeanne Marie Harris. She survives.

He is survived by his children, John Bayne Jr.and Joyce (Bruce) Bayne, Laura Asher and Randy Asher, Christian Micheal nad William Shannon, Two grandchildren, Grshella Casteel and Nathan, Zackary Asher ans Meagan One greatgrandchld, Lacy Asher,

Visitation for Mr. Bayne well be 4:00 pm till service time at 5:00 pm October 12, 2013 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri .

Mildred Dahlgren

Mildred Ann Dahlgren, age 76, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday October 10, 2013 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Dahlgren was born September 19, 1937 in Charleston, Ms., to the late Wilson and Jewel(Scott) McCullough.  A housewife, she enjoyed cooking and canning, fishing and playing bingo.  She was a member of First General Baptist Church. 

On September 19, 1959 she married Edwin C. Dahlgren in Lockport, Ill.  He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Dave and wife, Rhonda of Demotte, Ind., and Rick and wife, Pam of Poplar Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Mary Dahlgren of Ohio; a sister, Totsy (Ira) Causey of Piggott, Ark.; one brother, AJ “Boots” McCullough of Ellsinore, Mo.; her grandchildren, Kaelin, Trevor, Kierra, Kyleigh, Cody, Miranda, William, Ethan, Lexi, AJ, Brody, Jonathon, Danika, Ashley, Alyissa  as well as two great-grandchildren on the way.

Also preceding her death a son, Dan Dahlgren and siblings,  Hazel, Maydean, John, and Wilson Jr. McCullough.

A memorial visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Monday October 14, 2013 followed by memorial service at 6 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, in Poplar Bluff, with Dr. Dick Murray officiating. Interment will be held in the Mo. State Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo.

Ina Christie

Ina Christie, age 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her home. 

Mrs. Christie was born June 9, 1935, in Butler County, to the late Shelby and Mamie (Osborn) Garner.  She worked as a bookkeeper.  She enjoyed quilting, teaching sign language and helping the churches deaf choir, writing, her friends, family and church.  She was a member of the Living Word Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

On August 5, 1961 she married Aubrey Christie in Poplar Bluff.  He preceded her in death December 30, 2011. 

Survivors include her children, Debbie Christie of Springfield, Mo., Judy Seawel and husband, Brent, of Poplar Bluff, Karen Zarky and husband, Art, of Camdenton, Mo., son-in-law, Bill Jones of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Brian Jones and Angie Taylor, both of Springfield, Mo., Jaybe Blair and husband, Kyle of Columbus, Ga., William Roach, Oakland, Tn., Christie Browne and husband, Richard of Springfield, Mo., Carrie Stone of Aurora, Mo., Dan Seawel and wife, Julie of Clever, Mo., Sarah McAnulty and husband, Nathan of Poplar Bluff, Karen Sue Heembrock and husband, David of St. Louis, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Mairin and Colin Knauss, Carson, Avery and Richie Browne, Emmaleigh Stone; Ailee, Olivia and Benjamin Seawell, Kara, Robert and Katie Heembrock. 

Also preceding her in death a daughter, Carolann (Christie) Jones; sister, Minnie Easter and two brothers, Shelby Garner and Edward Garner.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Living Word Baptist Church, 456 Township Line Rd., Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at the church with Rev. Donnie Emmons officiating.  Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mary Lee Hornbeck

Mary Lee (Gower) Hornbeck, age 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away October 10, 2013, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Hornbeck was born April 26, 1929, in Oran, Mo., to the late David Jefferson Vincent and Sarah Louvera Elizabeth (Sloat) Gower.  She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. An avid gardener, she loved canning and sharing with her family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress making wedding dresses and prom gowns for her children and grandchildren.

On October 5, 1944, she married Jesse Hornbeck, in Corning, Ark. He preceded her to heaven this year and we know he was waiting for her with open arms at the eastern gate.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Allan) Bellamy, Springfield, Mo., Sharon (Marion) Tibbs, Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Kimberly Bellamy, Springfield, Scott (Michelle) Bellamy, Olathe, Ks.; Michelle (Doug) Bates, Poplar Bluff, Brian (Lori) Tibbs, Poplar Bluff; great-grandchildren, Kaylee (David) Hessling, Dexter, Kelsey Bates, Lucas, Tanner, and Tyson Tibbs, of Poplar Bluff, and Ashley (Jason) Davis, Long Beach, Ms.; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother James Albert Gower , a sister Dorothy Moore, Poplar Bluff.

Preceding her in death were siblings, Rosetta Stucker, David Gower and Jimmy Henson.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m., with Ron Fowler officiating.  She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013.

Marie Baxter

 Marie D. (Attebery)  Baxter, 96, of Mark, Ill. passed away October 7, 2013 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 11, 2013 in Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Missouri. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm Friday until time of services at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Eaton Cemetery at Naylor, Missour. Helmer -Shields Funeral Home in Granville assisting the family with Local arrangement.

Mrs Baxter was born September 5, 1917 in Clay County Arkansas to William Oscar and Luvina (Hocking)  Atteberry. She married Johnie Baxter December 24, 1936 in Clay County, Arkansas.

Mrs. Baxter is survived by one daughter Janice (Robert) Ossola of Mark, Ill. and one son Roger (Janice) Baxter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, one sister Doris (Clayton) Murray of O’Falloon, Missouri, one Grandson, Adam (Amy) Ossola, One Grandaughter Lora (Andrew) Boggio and one great granddaughter.

Mrs. Baxter was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 and seven brothers.
