Edwin Carl Dahlgren

Edwin Carl Dahlgren, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. departed this life Sunday, September 28,2014, at his residence.

Mr. Dahlgren was born Oct. 1, 1935 in Joliet  Ill. to Edwin and Vergine Dahlgren. He served in the United States Army, and later worked as a Union Pipefitter. Edwin was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, playing bingo and rolling dice.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Ann McCullough on Sept.19, 1959, in Lockport Ill. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2013.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Dan Dahlgren.

Survivors include his children, Dave Dahlgren and wife, Rhonda,  of Demotte, Ind., Rick Dahlgren and wife, Pam, of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Ronald Dahlgren of Florida; 13 grandchildren,  Kaelin, Trevor, Kierra, Kyleigh, Coby, Miranda, William, Ethan, Lexi, AJ, Brody, Jonathan and Danika; and two great grandchildren, Molly and Lorilye.

Memorial visitation will be from 6- 7 p.m., Tuesday September 30,2014, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, in Poplar Bluff,  followed by a memorial funeral service at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with Dr. Dick Murray officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield Mo.

Vickie McCann

Vickie McCann, 60, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McCann was born November 22, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and was an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer for several years. In 1976 she received a bachelors in music education.  She was a music teacher in the Zalma, Doniphan and Neelyville school systems before retiring in 2006.  She enjoyed tending to her flowers, listening to gospel music, especially David Phelps, playing the piano, and singing in the church choir.   She also enjoyed being the Operation Christmas Child Poplar Bluff relay station coordinator for 6 years, Sunday School teacher, VBS director and doing music for Cane Creek Stoddard Children’s Camp for 10 years.

On April 14, 1979 she married Larry McCann in Millersville, Mo.  He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Luke Adam McCann and Mollie Elizabeth Hudson (Justin) all of Nashville, Tn.; her mother, Eula (Camren) Brown; one grandchild, Camren Reed Hudson; a sister, Kathy Criddle (Jim) and brother, Andy Brown (Debra) all of Millersville, Mo.

Her father, Russell D. Brown preceded her in death.

A memorial visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Temple Baptist Church, 1813 Barron Road, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The memorial funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014, at the church, with the Rev. Steve Patterson officiating.

Mathilda Mattie Watkins

Mathilda Mattie Watkins, 70, Of Oxly, Missouri passed away September 24, 2014 at her residence. She was born August 20, 1944, at Chicago, Illinois to the late Carmello Manina and Giatana Cutrone. On May 5, 1962 at Chicago, Illinois Mathilda was married to Bobby Joe Watkins. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2012.  She is survived by one son; Robert Watkins and wife Tammy of Springville, Tennessee and three  grandchildren, Kyle, Hannah, Ryan Watkins.

She was the owner/operator of a grocery  store in Oxly and enjoyed shopping and cooking.

Visitation for Mrs. Watkins will be Saturday September 27, 2014 10:oo am, with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neellyville, Missouri. Burial Will be in the Antioch Cemetery with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Isiah Smith Sr.

Isiah Smith Sr., 82, of Benton Harbor, Mich., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Lakeland Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph, Mich.

Mr. Smith was born March 19,1932 in Hayti, Mo. He worked as a farmer and enjoyed fishing, cooking, woodworking, gardening, and being outdoors. He attended El Bethel Church.

On May 31, 1956 he married Myrtle McComb in Marked Tree, Ark. She preceded him in death on, April 28, 2002.

Survivors include his children; Luccinda Wintson, Isaah (Doris) Smith Jr., Myrtle Higgs, Joseph Smith, Ricky Smith, Lea Smith, Ricky Smith, Lesa Smith all of Neelyville, Darlena Smith of Austin, Texas, Dan Allen (Sandra) Smith of Harker Heights, Texas; sisters, Florence McComb and Retha Deaner, both of Neelyville; nine grandchildren; Gwen Cain, Tonya Brown, Audry Smith, Adrian Smith, Aurianna Smith, Jestin Smith (Mindy), Kaneezsha Dobbins, Clifton Kobe Hayes, Raven Smith; six great-grandchildren; Jazmyne Smith, Jamie Fowler, Curtis Fowler, J’Kayla Fowler, Malik Brown, Laila Brown; and here great-great-grandchildren, Venus Nicole, Jaden Maurice, Aaliyah Liana.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service on Friday at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral service will follow at noon Friday in the chapel. burial will be in Neelyville Cemetery.

Michael Raymer

Michael T. Raymer, 45, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Raymer was born October 21, 1968 in Poplar Bluff.   He was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed playing pool, darts and being with family.

Survivors include one sister, Cindy McElhaney and husband, Roger of Poplar Bluff and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Raymer was preceded in death by a daughter, Courtney Jean Raymer and his mother, Frances Raymer.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be in Potter Cemetery, Piedmont Mo.

Glenna Marie Meadors Montgomery

Glenna Marie Meadors Montgomery, 49, of Doniphan, Missouri passed away September 17, 2014 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri. she was born June 24, 1965 at Wichita, Kansas to Lawrence (Sonny) Meadors and Sharon Hope Wilson.

On September 20, 2011 at Pocahontas, Arkansas she was married to Steve Montgomery. He survives.

Also surviving, one son, James Rapien of New Orleans, La., Her father and step mother, Sonny and Alice Meadors of Doniphan, Missouri, two sisters, Tammy Sue Davis and Sherry Kay Cates both of Doniphan, Missouri. One brother , Larry Meadors and wife Patty of Doniphan, Missouri; step sisters, Pam, Donna, Anna, Linda and one step brother, Randy Altom and wife Tanya of Omaha, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her mother , Sharon McKinney and one sister, Theresa Johnson.

She enjoyed sewing, Quilting and Flowers.

visitation for Glenna will be Saturday September 20, 2014 starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel Inc. of Neelyville, Missouri with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m. . Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery at Doniphan, Missouri with the Rev. Bill Meadors officiating.

Wilma (Collins) Teachenor

Wilma Lee (Daves-Collins) Teachenor peacefully departed this life to be with her heavenly family on September 16, 2014.

She was born on May 5, 1940 to Jessie Daves and Alpha Berry in Chaonia, Mo.

On June 26, 1959. She married her Soul mate Robert Lee Collins. To this union of marriage was born 4 children, Robin Collins, Thelma Chapman (Raymond), Kenneth Collins (Lisa), Randy Collins (Traci). seven grandchildren-Tresa, Kenny Jr., Trevor, Heather, Kellie, Rusty, Cody; and six great-grandchildren. Along with may nieces and nephews. And many family and friends.

She is survived by 3 brothers. Chester Daves, Freddie Daves (Sharon), Marvin Berry (Robin); two sisters, Mary Riley (Mickey) and Carol Sue Todd (Jerry)

She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-father Leonard Berry. Her beloved husband Robert, 4 sisters, and her precious angel baby Robin.

Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014. Funeral on September 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Hvam Cemetery.

Rose Elder

Stella Rose Elder, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Westwood Hills Healthcare.

Mrs. Elder was born May 1, 1931, in East Prairie, Mo. On March 13, 1953, she married Wilburn “Clyde” Elder at Pocahontas, Ark.  He preceded her in death November 14, 2003.

She attended the Second Baptist Church.  Her hobbies were pictures, quilting, fishing and music.

Survivors include a son, Gary Elder and wife, Jackie, of Oklahoma City, Ok.; three sister, Viola Coonce of St. Louis, Catherine Jenning, Poplar Bluff, and Nora Culbertson of Sikeston; one brother, Thomas Stovall, of Texas; five grandchildren, Tonya Kesterson (Brian), Jeff Elder (Brandy), Kimberly Stevens (Phillip), Tyler Elder and Rylie Elder; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen, Cody, and Kayla Kesterson, Chesney and Braxton Stevens, and Emma and Ella Elder.

Also preceding her in death, a son, Mark Elder and her parents, John Hilery Stovall and Ella Margaret (Rutledge) Stovall.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The Rev. Willis Smith and Rev. Bill Orr will officiate.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens, Poplar Bluff.

Cliston Porter

Cliston C. Porter, 89, of Naylor Mo., formerly of Steeleville, Mo., died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Current River Nursing Center.

Mr. Porter was born July 4, 1925 in Torch, Mo. He worked as a machinist for Berry Way Miller Bottle Wasler Manufacture. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the International association of Machinist. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and served in  WWII.

On May 12, 1951, he married Mabel Hardin in Piggott, Ar. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Larry Porter of Naylor, Mo.; one sister Mary Fears, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one brother, Delbert Boyle, of Edwardsville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, also preceding him in death are his parents, Ed Porter and Asley Crook; and one sister Grace Thomas

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the chapel. Burial will be at Naylor Memorial Cemetery.

Katheline “Kathy” Whitney

Katheline “Kathy” Whitney, 61, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at her residence.  Mrs. Whitney was born September 11, 1953, in Poplar Bluff, to the late Jim Smith and Mary D. Burden.

Mrs. Whitney enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, spending time with family and grandchildren, and yard sales. She attended the Palace of Praise Church.  On Oct. 14, 1969, she was united in marriage to Jimmy Whitney. He preceded her in death July 2003.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn R. Hamm and Jimmy “Bubby” L. Whitney; brothers, Lee and Danny Daugherty, DeWayne, Mitchell, Mark and Michael Smith; a sister, Rosemary Bowen;six grandchildren, Danny Hamm Jr., Daniel Hamm, Colton Humble, Alex Lopez, Brittni Whitney and Levi Whitney; 3 great-grandchildren, Danny “Mack” L. Hamm III, Diamond R. Hamm and Ethan R.L. Hamm.  Also surviving are two special friends, Penny Smith and Helen Jordan.

Mrs. Whitney was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister Judy Sparks.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, in the funeral home chapel, with Bishop Kent Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery, Blytheville, Ar.
