Clarender Davies

Clarender Davies, 93, of Piedmont, Mo., passed away November 27, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Davies was born September 19, 1921 in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Henry Johnson and Julia (Lucas) Johnson. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service and enjoyed reading and listening to gospel music. She was a member of the YHWH True Remnant Church.

She is survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, eight nieces and ten nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, two sons; Ronnie Davies and Jackie Davies, four sisters and five brothers.

A memorial service may be held at a later date.

Caroline Sue Faughn

Caroline Sue Faughn, 68, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away November 27, 2014 in the St. Lukes Hospital at St. Louis, Missouri. She was born December 17, 1945 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Calvin Webb and Wanda Pickard Webb.  On October 2, 1962 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri She was married to Phillip; Wayne Faughn. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2007.

She is survived by three sons, Kevin W. Faughn of Fairdealing, Missouri, Gregory A. Faughn of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Phillip E. Faughn of Poplar Bluff, Missouri as well as one brother, Bill Webb of Algona, Iowa . Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Faughn was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters, Linda Clappsaddle and Margie Parsons.

She was affiliated with the McDougal Community Church for sometime and enjoyed reading, flea markets and auctions, and her church. She had volunteered with rescue mission and Twin Towers.  She had also worked as a cook. She has been retired for many years.

Visitation for Mrs Faughn will be Monday December 1, 2014 at  6:00 pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri with the funeral Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the Ashcraft Cemetery of Poplar Bluff, Missouri with Rev. Rowdy Boyer officiating.

Joyce Knodell

Joyce Marie (Hinkle) Knodell, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Knodell was born September 29, 1933 in Zion, Mo. to the late Charley and Zella Hinkle.  She was a retired register nurse and a pastors wife for 50 years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking.

On December 24, 1955 she married Tommy Luther Knodell at the Mt. Pisgah Church in Zion, Mo. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Penny Knodell Keathley and husband, Ken, Kurt Knodell and wife, Julie, Cynthia Knodell Barks and husband, Cary; two sisters, Phyllis Whitener and Jan Bollinger and one brother, Bob Hinkle; her grandchildren, Matthew Keathley (Deana), Allison Ladd (Aaron), Caleb Knodell, Cody Knodell, Kelly Barks and Mallory Barks, as well as three great-grandchildren, Elliott, Grant and Lydia Keathley.

She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Thompson and Leanna Huffman.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 in the church with Dr. Ken Keathley and Dr. William Vail officiating.  Burial will be in the Wappapello Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Mo. Baptist Children’s Home.

Stella Magill Parrish

Stella Magill Parrish, 74, of Carterville, Ill., formerly of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away at 10:01 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in West Frankfort with her family by her side.

She was born September 18, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Henry and Vada (Hendrix) Magill. She married Tarrell Parrish who preceded her in death on July 2, 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Jamie Magill Birchfield and husband, Michael of West Frankfort, Ill.; a brother, Jerry Magill and wife, Karen of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Patsy Cardwell of Hot Springs, Ark. and Frances Gower of Poplar Bluff, Mo. as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Jackie Magill and Joy Magill Sr. and by an infant brother, Lonnie Magill.

Stella was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Ill. She was a dental assistant for over 40 years for Dr. Post and Dr. Christian in Poplar Bluff and Dr. Beadle in Carbondale, Ill. She loved to go fishing and was a huge St. Cardinals Baseball fan.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral Mass will begin at 11a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Butler County Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Elvin Spencer

Elvin Spencer, 70, of Neelyville, Mo. died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Spencer was born Oct. 16, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He worked as a farmer and worked at a sawmill. He was a lifelong resident of Butler County and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his grandchildren.

On February 8, 1964 he married Dorothy Muller in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She survives.

Besides his wife, also surviving are his children, Eddie Spencer, and Lisa Spencer, both of Harviell, Mo., Scott Spencer and wife Tammy of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one sister, Jewell Birdsong, of Harviell, Mo.; one brother, George Spencer Sr. of Harviell, Mo.; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Taylor, Shelly, Britney, Dustin, Lane; and 4 great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Alexandria, Katlin, and Zackary.

Preceding him in death are his parents, George Spencer and Betty Wilson Spencer; two sisters, Mary Brooks and Carolyn Daves; and three brothers, Bill Joe Spencer, Donald Gene Spencer, and Melvin Spencer.

A Graveside service will take place Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Spencer Cemetery.

Scott “Butter” Bowman

Scott “Butter” Bowman, 44, of Neelyville, Mo. died Mon. Nov. 24, 2014 in Supply, AR.

Mr. Bowman was born Sept. 21, 1970 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Butler County. He enjoyed hunting arrowheads, swimming, the river, and tractor pulls. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include one child, James Dillion Owens of Qulin, Mo.; his parents, Walter Bowman Sr. and Darlene Ferguson Bowman; one brother Lee Bowman of Doniphan, Mo.; A special girlfriend Sarah Sheppard; one nephew, Brayden Bowman; several aunts and uncles and many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday November 28, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo. with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Brown Chapel in Broseley, Mo.

Monday, November 24th, 2014

Charles A. Hodge, 85, of Poplar Bluff passed away at the home of his daughter, Jacqulyn Barks on November 21, 2014.

Mr. Hodge was of the Baptist faith and in his early years pastored several church’s in this area.  He was retired and was the owner of Poplar Bluff Upholstery, for several years.  He was a member of the SEMO Veterans Honor Guard since his retirement from the Missouri National Guard.

He is survived by 5 daughters, Elizabeth Westerfield, of Paducah, KY, Diana Scott, Sharon Haley, Deborah Barks and Jacqulyn Barks all of Poplar Bluff; 1 brother, Jerry Hodge of Poplar Bluff, 10 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Hodge is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Anna Hodge, 4 brothers; Benjamin, Bill, James and Virgil Hodge; 4 sisters; Mildred Porch, Edith Parshall, Norma Jean Hawkins, and Donna Kay Goins.

On this day we are sad but celebrate the life of our father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.  He was a friend to all that met him and knew him.  We are proud to call him dad and that our Heavenly Father is holding him in His arms for eternity.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 29, 2014 noon to 1pm with the funeral service at 1pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home chapel; 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff.  Rev. Rowdy Boyer will officiate.  Interment will be in Berger Cemetery, Oglesville, MO (also known as Carola Cemetery)

David “Dave” Clayton

David Franklin Clayton, 87, of Doniphan, Missouri passed away November 21, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  He was born January 22, 1927 at Gatewood, Missouri to the late John Newton Clayton Sr. and Cleo Brown Clayton.

On December 26, 1964 at St. Louis, Missouri He was married to Lois M Koons. She survives.

He was preceded in death by two children, his parents and three brothers, Joe Clayton, John Clayton Jr., and Martin Clayton.

Dave had served in the United States Army during WWII in the Calvary. He had received the victory medal, and had been a commercial truck driver.

Visitation for Mr. Clayton will be Tuesday November 25, 2014 starting at 12:00 p.m. till 1:00 p.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Missouri. A graveside will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Fairdealing Cemetery. Donnie Fowler officiating.

Wyman G. Alliston

Wyman G. Alliston, 91, of Neelyville, Missouri passed away November 21, 2014 in the Mark Twain Caring Center at Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was born November 12, 1923 to the late Roy Alliston and Pearl Ray Alliston.

On February 25, 1950 at Pocahontas, Arkansas He was married to Gladys Ward. She preceded him in death Monday January 20, 1992.

Wyman is survived by  three daughters, Lavonne Hinton and Greg, Glenda Donnelly and Sean and Beth Briney and Bill. One son , Johnny Alliston, as well as  His four Grandchildren, Laura and Shannon Donnelly, Courtney, Brooke and Ridge Briney, Sisters, Wilma Bush, Melvetta Grimmett, Lavedia Morgan and Shirley Burson as well as one  brother, Bill Alliston.

A resident of Neelyville, Wyman was a farmer. He also drove the school bus for the Neelyville School system beginning in the fall of 1960 until November of 1993. He enjoyed life and was a member of the Independence Missionary Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Naomi Booth as well as a brother,  Richard Alliston and two infant brothers.

Visitation for Wyman will be Sunday November 23, 2014 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral starting at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Shirley Ray Martin

Ray Martin, 90, of Fairdealing, Missouri pass away November 19, 2014 in the Southeast Health Care Center of Doniphan, Missouri. He was born January 20, 1924 in Raymond City, Virginia to the late James Albert  Martin and Lyda Bell Asbury Martin.

On December 23, 1946 at Pocahontas, Arkansas He was married to Juanita Gaines. She survives.

Also surviving is his children, William Larry Martin of Portorville, California, Jerry Lee Martin of Fairdealing, Missouri, and Garry Albert Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Twenty two grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren also survive.

Ray was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Poplar Bluff, Missouri where he served as high priest. He had been a farmer and enjoyed, yard sales, auctions, collecting knifes and watches as well as little cars and trucks.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one son, Tommy Ray Martin and one daughter Peggy Sue “Martin” Willbanks, one sister, Maysel F. Borkus and two brothers, Herschel A. Martin and Curtis L. Martin.

Visitation for Mr. Martin will be November 24, 2014 starting at 12:00 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Poplar Bluff, Mo.. Funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with the burial in the Center Hill Cemetery at Fairdealing, Missouri.
