Christina Sue Whitmer

Christina Sue Whitmer, 27 of Poplar Bluff passed away Tuesday December 30,2014 at her residence.  She was born on November 16,1987 in Poplar Bluff.

She loved riding,working with computers, and doing crafts. She was of the Pentecostal Faith.

She is survived by her children Mark Michael Thurman, Charlotte Aliza Beth Murphy, parents Billy Joe Thurman and Charlotte Murphy. as well as a half brother Dustin Ray Rogers.  She is also survived by cousins other relatives and friends.  she was preceded in death by a brother Michael Ryan Whitmer.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Steven Wayne Tanner

Steven Wayne Tanner, 58 of Wappapello, Missouri passed away on December 23, 2014. He was born in St.Louis, Missouri on June 22, 1956 to the late Wayne Tanner and Betty (Barks) Tanner.

Mr. Tanner is survived by his brothers: Richard Tanner and wife Janice of St Charles County and Timothy Tanner of St.Louis, Missouri.

No services are planned at this time.

Mark Allen Baugus

Mark Allen Baugus, 47, of Naylor, Missouri, passed away December 24, 2014 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1967 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri to  Brooks Baugus and Rosetta (Webb) Baugus.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his mother as well as one brother Terry Baugus and two half sisters, Cecilia and Regina

Visitation for Mr. Baugus will Saturday December 27, 2014 starting at 11:00 am with the funeral following at 1:00 pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri.

Burial will be in the Gum Cemetery with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Charles Edward Gambill

Charles Edward (Boots) Gambill, 85, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away in the St. Francis Medical Center of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born June 26, 1929 at Torch, Missouri to the late William Ward Gambill and Clara Reynolds.

On November 22, 2000 at Poynor, Missouri to Panzy Wilson. She departed this life on August 31, 2002.

He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, telling stories and his grandchildren. He served in the United States Marines during WWII.

Mr. Gambill is survived by; five daughters, Kathy Dorch Of Tampa, Florida, Carol Nickason of Corning, Arkansas, Pamela Bailey of Oran, Missouri,  Cheryl Neldon of Current View, Missouri and Doris Harp of Advance, Missouri. One sister, Roxie Gambill Wertenberger Doniphan, Missouri. Nineteen grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two grandson, Calvin West and Jeffery Harp, sister; Betty Full and one brother; Ples Gambill.

Visitation for Mr. Gambill will be Monday December 29, 2014 starting at 11:00 am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel with the Funeral following at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery with Brother Bo Shultz officiating.

Floyd R. (Bob) Gunter

Floyd (Bob) Gunter, 64 of Fairdealing, Missouri , passed away December 18, 2014 at his residence. He was born March 30, 1950 in Ripley County, Missouri to the late Floyd Gunter,  and  Dorothy Dudley Gunter.

He is survived by his children, Bobby Gunter of Sikeston, Mo, Karolyn Gunter of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Michelle Cissell of Waterloo, Ill.. Seven Sisters,  Mary Ward of Oxly, Mo., Susan Purvis of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Alice Friar of Doniphan, Mo., Sally Friar of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Karla Geddes of Charolette N. C., Elfia Pruett of Elberta, Alabama, Anita Hinkle of Doniphan, Mo.. Three brothers, Rolland Gunter of Doniphan, Mo., Wade Gunter  of Fairdealing and Vernon Gunter of Ellington, Mo.. He is also survived by two grandsons; Cody and Corey.  A special friend and companion Karen Fish also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one sister, Bonnie Terry and two brothers, Edward Terry and Daniel Gunter.

Mr. Gunter had served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era where he had received 5 medals for his service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on guns and his 65 mustang car.

Visitation for Mr. Gunter will Monday December 22, 2014 starting at 11:00 am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. The funeral will be at 12:00 pm Monday December 22, 2014. Burial Will be in the Springhill Cemetery near Fairdealing, Missouri.

Betty Lou Duncan

Betty Lou Duncan, 76, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Oakdale Care Center.  Mrs. Duncan was born December 14, 1938 in Biggers, Ar. to the late Ira A. Larkins and Maudie Goodwin-Larkins.

Mrs. Duncan was a retired dental assistant.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Corning, Ar..  She was also a member of the Eagle Lodge and the American Legion.  She enjoyed making flower arrangements.

She is survived by a daughter; Pam Duncan Scott (Devon); a sister, Norma Sue Gibbs, Concord, Ga. and two nephews, Jimmy and Chris Gibbs.

There will be no public visitation.  A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE AT THE MASOLEUM AT MEMORIAL GARDENS 2pm Sunday, December 21, 2014 with Dr. Mike Price and Lana Lomax officiating.  The family requests casual dress.

Pansy M. Alexander

Pansy M. Alexander, 93, of Harviell, Missouri, departed this life on December 17, 2014 at the Black River Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Alexander was born May 22, 1921 in Ash Hill, Missouri.

On November 9, 1939 at Piggott, Arkansas, She was married to Frank M. Alexander. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1993.  She as also preceded in death by her parents as well as one sister, Dorothy Wiseman.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by: one son, Ivan Gene Alexander and wife Imodene and one daughter, Lucille Thomas and husband George all of Harviell, Missouri; four grandchildren, Vickie Alexander of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Robin Coleman of Neelyville, Missouri, Angie Adams and husband Robert of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Butch Tolliver and wife Sandy of Harviell, Missouri; five great grandchildren;  Jessica West, Michael West, Shawn Adams, Cody Adams and Chad Tolliver and one sister, Vivian Sweet and husband Gene of Hartsborne, OK.

In her spare time se enjoyed cooking, crocheting, quilting and her family. She was a member of the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the church keeper for 20 years.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. with the services following at 12:00 p.m. Saturday a the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Missouri, with Brother Don Alexander Officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Stephen Thacker

Stephen Ray Thacker, 45, of Zephyr Hills, Florida, formerly of Poplar Bluff and Campbell, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

Mr. Thacker was born December 14, 1970 in Hillsboro, Illinois.  He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, car racing and boats and he loved his grandchildren. He was a J C active in the toys for tots,and the J C s haunted house, he had worked at Briggs and Stratton in Poplar Bluff.

On December 5, 2009 he married Rowena (Cummings) Thacker.  She survives.

Other survivors include his step-daughter, Tasha Rowley and husband, Mark; his mother, Janet Lorraine Malpass and step-father, Donald Ray Malpass; sisters, Christine Laswell and Connie Evans; step-sister, Sherry Brawner; brothers, Jack Evans and Gerald Thacker-Evans; step-brother, Donald Ray Thacker; grandchildren, Haley and Natalie Gilbert, Gage and Brendan Rowley and a special uncle, Richard “Butch” Thacker; as well as several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Thacker; grandparents, Bill and Mary Thacker and step-brother, Ronnie Joe Thacker.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by  the funeral service at 2 p.m.  Bro. Bob Fry will officiate. Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Donald Pickard Sr.

Donald Roy Pickard Sr., 72, of Naylor, Mo., passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Pickard was born December 15, 1941 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late Aubrey Elmo Pickard and Bessie (Gallmore) Pickard.

Mr. Pickard was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church.  He served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the National Guard.  An auto mechanic by trade, he loved tinkering with broken things.

On July 17, 1963 he married Lois (Rankin) Pickard in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Linda Sue Shaw, Donald Ray Pickard Jr., Donna Marie Brannum, Carolyn Ann Joerke and John Joseph Pickard; 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the New Life Tabernacle, 603 Victor Street, Poplar Bluff with Pastor Larry Sanders officiating.

Louis Philip Gilliland

Tough Guy/ Tender Heart- Louis Philip Gilliland, 92, son of the late William J. Gilliland and Allie (Gray) Gilliland, was born April 28, 1922 in Cooter, Missouri, and passed away December 12, 2014 at his home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri with his daughter, Linda, son-in-law Glen and sister Allie by his side.

Louis served in active duty in the US Army in World War II, In  his younger years, he was a farmer: the later, a long haul truck driver out of Grand Junction, Colorado. He has lived in Poplar Bluff and Fairdealing since retiring.

Imogene Alice Woolard, his bride of 68 years, preceded him in death in September of this year. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Shea, and her husband, Glen Shea of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Three brothers, Lloyd Gilliland of Drain, Or., Henry Gilliland of Mountain Home, ID. and John Gilliland of Lazier, Co. ; four sisters, Bea Fritts of Sutherlan, OR, Margaret Richmond, Allie Dannecker and Hazel Watson all of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren all of Colorado. Two brothers preceded him in death, Jesse Robert Gilliland of Poplar Bluff and William Gilliland of Coeur D’ Alene, ID.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday December 16, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2414 Katy Lane in Poplar Bluff, MO.. Visitation: Family 12:30-1:00 p.m.. Friends and neighbors 1:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral: 2:00-3:00 p.m. Graveside services following at the Naylor Memorial Cemetery.

Dinner for family and friends will be provided back at the Church on Katy Lane following graveside services.

Memorials may be made to the Haven House Women’s Shelter of Poplar Bluff.

Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri is in charge of arrangements.
