Christina Sue Whitmer

Christina Sue Whitmer, 27 of Poplar Bluff passed away Tuesday December 30,2014 at her residence.  She was born on November 16,1987 in Poplar Bluff.

She loved riding,working with computers, and doing crafts. She was of the Pentecostal Faith.

She is survived by her children Mark Michael Thurman, Charlotte Aliza Beth Murphy, parents Billy Joe Thurman and Charlotte Murphy. as well as a half brother Dustin Ray Rogers.  She is also survived by cousins other relatives and friends.  she was preceded in death by a brother Michael Ryan Whitmer.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Steven Wayne Tanner

Steven Wayne Tanner, 58 of Wappapello, Missouri passed away on December 23, 2014. He was born in St.Louis, Missouri on June 22, 1956 to the late Wayne Tanner and Betty (Barks) Tanner.

Mr. Tanner is survived by his brothers: Richard Tanner and wife Janice of St Charles County and Timothy Tanner of St.Louis, Missouri.

No services are planned at this time.

Betty Lou Duncan

Betty Lou Duncan, 76, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Oakdale Care Center.  Mrs. Duncan was born December 14, 1938 in Biggers, Ar. to the late Ira A. Larkins and Maudie Goodwin-Larkins.

Mrs. Duncan was a retired dental assistant.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Corning, Ar..  She was also a member of the Eagle Lodge and the American Legion.  She enjoyed making flower arrangements.

She is survived by a daughter; Pam Duncan Scott (Devon); a sister, Norma Sue Gibbs, Concord, Ga. and two nephews, Jimmy and Chris Gibbs.

There will be no public visitation.  A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE AT THE MASOLEUM AT MEMORIAL GARDENS 2pm Sunday, December 21, 2014 with Dr. Mike Price and Lana Lomax officiating.  The family requests casual dress.

Stephen Thacker

Stephen Ray Thacker, 45, of Zephyr Hills, Florida, formerly of Poplar Bluff and Campbell, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

Mr. Thacker was born December 14, 1970 in Hillsboro, Illinois.  He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, car racing and boats and he loved his grandchildren. He was a J C active in the toys for tots,and the J C s haunted house, he had worked at Briggs and Stratton in Poplar Bluff.

On December 5, 2009 he married Rowena (Cummings) Thacker.  She survives.

Other survivors include his step-daughter, Tasha Rowley and husband, Mark; his mother, Janet Lorraine Malpass and step-father, Donald Ray Malpass; sisters, Christine Laswell and Connie Evans; step-sister, Sherry Brawner; brothers, Jack Evans and Gerald Thacker-Evans; step-brother, Donald Ray Thacker; grandchildren, Haley and Natalie Gilbert, Gage and Brendan Rowley and a special uncle, Richard “Butch” Thacker; as well as several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Thacker; grandparents, Bill and Mary Thacker and step-brother, Ronnie Joe Thacker.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by  the funeral service at 2 p.m.  Bro. Bob Fry will officiate. Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Donald Pickard Sr.

Donald Roy Pickard Sr., 72, of Naylor, Mo., passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Pickard was born December 15, 1941 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late Aubrey Elmo Pickard and Bessie (Gallmore) Pickard.

Mr. Pickard was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church.  He served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the National Guard.  An auto mechanic by trade, he loved tinkering with broken things.

On July 17, 1963 he married Lois (Rankin) Pickard in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Linda Sue Shaw, Donald Ray Pickard Jr., Donna Marie Brannum, Carolyn Ann Joerke and John Joseph Pickard; 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the New Life Tabernacle, 603 Victor Street, Poplar Bluff with Pastor Larry Sanders officiating.

Dianne Miller

Dianne Elaine Miller, 71, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Miller was born July 26, 1943, in Depauw, Indiana to the late Chester and Ellen Bruner.  On March 25, 1973 she married Dennis Miller in Bonne Terre, Mo.  He preceded her in death in 2001.  She attended Cross Street Pentecostal Holiness Church in Poplar Bluff.  She dearly loved her family and going to church and praising God.

She is survived by her children, Wayne Hisey, Jeremy McAllister, Eric Miller, Anthony Miller, Shannon Adams, Adam Miller, Lynn Edgar; one sister, Delores Horrocker of  Valeen, Ind. and one brother, Donald Bruner of Palmyra, Ind.; her grandchildren, Derek Hisey, David Hisey, Cortney McAllister, Corey McAllister, Cora McAllister, Cloee McAllister, Paige Leroux, Nathan Leroux, Bentley Bridgewater, Wyatt Adams, Damien Miller, Hailee Miller, Kyle Miller, and Tristan Miller; great-grandchildren Derrick Potts and Rylan Reagan and many adopted who she loved.

She is also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Stevenson.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff,  followed by the  funeral service at 2:30 p.m., in the chapel.  Pastor Jerry Summers will officiate.  Burial will be in the Gum Cemetery near Naylor, Mo.

Nova Montgomery

Nova Joy (Adams) Montgomery, 105, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Westwood Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Montgomery was born December 5, 1909, in rural Ripley County, Mo.

She married Paul Montgomery July 31, 1934.  Upon their arrival in Butler County, they formed their life-long business, Paul Montgomery Construction.  While Paul was building bridges, Nova took care of the office duties of secretary, treasurer and manager for 40 years.

Paul and Nova were very active in the Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus, as well as veterans organizations and community efforts. Nova continued volunteering her services after the death of Paul in 1997.  She was also an avid Senior Olympic participant through her 92nd birthday.  She participated yearly in the Relay for Life walkathon.  She was matriarch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Poplar Bluff.

Preceding Nova in death were her parents, John Thomas Adams and Hestoria Patterson Adams; several siblings and her husband, Paul.

She is survived by her son, Larry Paul Montgomery and wife, Marilyn; two grandchildren, two step- grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 (noon) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father David Coon officiating.  Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Thomas Joyner

Thomas William Joyner, 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Joyner was born June 9, 1930 in Holcomb, Mo. to the late William Luther and Dema (Wilburn) Joyner.

He was of the Baptist faith.  He was a retired truck driver for John Deere and enjoyed square dancing, watching westerns and loved music.

In 1949 he married Ulah Louise Harvill.  She passed away in 1984.  In 1997 he married Betty Henderson who passed away in 2013.

Survivors include his children, Linda Morgan and husband, Carroll and Marion Bud Joyner and wife Kim, all of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Jeff Carl and Charlena Dorris, five great-grandchildren, Megan, Shania and Cassie Carl and Macy and Tucker Dorris, as well as three great-great-grandchildren, Nikki, Kala and Morgan.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Bill Orr officiating.  Burial will be in the Tucker Cemetery , Campbell, Mo.

Ronald Bilbrey

Ronald Wayne Bilbrey, 64, of Fisk, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bilbrey was born July 7, 1950 in Williamsville, Mo. to the late Ira Lee and Ethel Marie (Rainwater) Bilbrey.

He graduated from Greenville High School in 1968. He was a commercial truck driver and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching westerns and wrestling and watching his grandchildren play sports.

On September 9, 1972 he married Mary (Nash) Bilbrey in Williamsville, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include children, Angela Marie Lemons (Angel Goldsmith), Robin Lamar Russell (Scott), Dayna Michelle Bilbrey- McKnight (James); sisters, Minnie Mae White and Norma Faye Summers; brothers, Leonard Bilbrey and Norman Clay Bilbrey; grandchildren, Makayla Bilbrey, Makenna Russell, Jeffery Russell, and Dakota McKnight; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren, as well as a son-in-law, Lee Lemons “PeeWee”.

He is also preceded in death by siblings, Clara Bell Miller, Gleeta Luke, Judy Marie Smith, Sandy Durrow and Donald Lee Bilbrey.

Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Katy Lane in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the church with Bishop Rob Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will be in the Dunkin Cemetery, Williamsville, Mo.

Sharon Dowd

Sharon Kay (Warren) Dowd, 65, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Festus, Mo.

She was born September 18, 1949 to the late Ed Warren and Wanda (White) Jennewein.

She was the beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend.

Survivors include her sons, Steven (Nancey) Buchannan of Sugar Creek, Mo., and Jason (Melissa) Dowd of Poplar Bluff; her mother, Wanda Jennewein of Hillsboro, Mo., and a sister, Carolyn (Garry) Caldwell of Pevely, Mo.; five grandchildren, Dexter Moore, Amanda (Lance) Parker, Drew, Mackenzie, and Samantha Dowd; one great-grandchild, Christian Parker; a nephew, Darrell (Debbie) Caldwell of Hillsboro; two nieces, Regina (James) Abrams of Columbia, Mo., and Gayla (Dennis) Mchawes of Festus, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ed Warren and step-father, Leroy Jennewein.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Byron Beck officiating.  Burial will be in the Black Creek Cemetery.
