Kim Rene Rudd Hardin

Kim Rene Rudd Hardin of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Mark Twain Caring Center, after having lived and loved her earthly time at the age of 57 years and 10 months.

Kim was born in Decatur, Ill. on March 27, 1957, the daughter of Donald W. “Duke” and Shirley Rudd, who survive.  She is also survived by her much loved daughter and companion, Amanda Rene Willis, of the home; two brothers, Kevin W. (Kelly) Rudd of Nashville, Tn. and Kris A. (Jeana) Rudd of Ellsinore, Mo.; nephews, Dillon and Dalton Rudd of Ellsinore and Michael Kizer of Nashville, as well as one niece, Catherine Kizer of Birmingham, Ala., and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

Kim was a member of Northpoint Nazarene Church in Poplar Bluff, where she enjoyed her fellow Christians and friend in church activities. She was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School in 1975.  She had worked in various jobs during her working career, but her main joy and hobby was crafts, decorating, trading and selling merchandise and caring for her flowers and garden. She loved her family and spending time with “Mom” and “Mandy” traveling, going to yard sales and antique stores looking for “stuff”, and of course her constant companion and loyal dog, “Peetie”.

She is preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Amanda Rene and Anna Beth Downing and daughter, Elizabeth June Downing.

A memorial service will be held at the Northpoint Nazarene Church, hwy. 67 North, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Wednesday, January 28, 2015.  Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the  funeral service at 1 p.m.  A graveside service will be held in the City Cemetery for family and friends.  Pastors Greg Gilberto and Kevin W. Rudd will officiate.

Donations may be given to the family for the Kim Hardin Memorial Fund.

Jewell Morris

Jewell Louise Morris, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, January, 19, 2015 at her home.

She was born January 28, 1931, in Deering, Mo., to the late Regie B. Graham and Mamye Lorene (Sakers) Graham. She was a homemaker and had worked as a beautician.  She enjoyed watching television and talking on the phone.

On September 2, 1949, she married Glen D. Owen. On January 6, 1979, she married Ernest (Jack) Morris.  He preceded her in death April 8, 2001.

Survivors include her sons, Glen Dewayne Owen and Dave Edward Owen; two step-daughters, Tina Patty and Debbie Pruett; a sister, Berlina Green; two brothers, Charles Graham and Joe Graham, as well as her grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by two brothers, R.B. Graham and Alvin Graham; and step-daughter, Suzy Wilson.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, with the Rev. Richard Hockersmith officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Susan Fortner South

Susan Fortner South, 86, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away January 8, 2015 at NHC Nursing Home in Maryland Heights , Mo.

She was born March 26, 1928, in Tennessee, to the late Henry Turnage and Bertha (Adkins) Turnage.  She attended Highland Drive Church of Christ.  She also enjoyed playing bingo and flowers.  She retired from Ritenour High School.

Survivors include her children, Barry Taylor and wife Debbie, Glenda Taylor Pessetti and husband, John and Michael Taylor and wife, Caron;  three grandchildren, Christa Hinojosa, Amanda Anderson and Alanna Shepard, as well as two great-grandchild, Oliva Hinojosa and Timothy Shepard

She is preceded in death by a son, R. Steven Taylor and husbands, Hollis South and Norman Fortner and a great-granddaughter, Alicia Hinojosa.

Visitation will begin at noon  Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., in the chapel, with Rev. Vernon Curry officiating.  Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Home, 5515 Walcott Rd., Paragould, AR 72450

Mary Barlow

Mary Evelyn Barlow, 61, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

She was born August 6, 1953 in Waukegan, Ill.  to the late Pete Paul Paukner Sr. and Mildred Evelyn (Hill) Paukner.

She worked for the Butler County Sheriff for 21 years and three years for the Ripley County Sheriff.  After her retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart.  She attended First Baptist Church and was loyal to her family and a hard worker.

On February 9, 2000 she married Kirk Barlow in Poplar Bluff.  He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Jamie Glenn Snodgrass and wife, Jamie; 3 step children; Holly Palacio, Kelsey Barlow, Kirk Barlow II,  four brothers, Paul Paukner, Robert Paukner and wife, Bernice, Eddie Paukner and wife, Susan, Billy Paukner and wife, Patti; seven grandchildren, Jamie Snodgrass Jr., Matthew Tyler Snodgrass, Jesse James Snodgrass,  Kay’La Marie Snodgrass, Piper Aurora Salzman, Lucas and Olivia Palacio

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday January 10, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015, in the chapel, with Sheriff Dobbs and Merrill Barlow officiating.  Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery, Oxly, Mo.

Sherry Szczeblewski

Sherry Dawn Szczeblewski, 57, of Wappapello Mo., departed this world on January 5, 2015.

She was born June 27, 1957 in St. Louis Mo.  She is the daughter of Albert and Nellie Szczeblewski.

Sherry graduated high school from Hazelwood, in St. Louis and received a B.S. degree from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau Mo. She was a retired business owner of a specialty medical billing company.

She is survived by her spouse of 28 years Donna Almond of Wappapello, Mo., loving family members, nieces, Jody Watson of O’Fallon, Mo., Emily Kelsoe of Baton Rouge, La., Rachel Almond of St. Petersburg, Fl., Rebekah Sims of Bloomington, Ind., and nephews, Jason Means of O’Fallon, Mo. and Josh Means of Bridgeton, Mo.

Sherry was an outdoor enthusiast and loved being on the lake and celebrating life with family and friends.

She was a member of Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church and requested memorials be made to Lake Wappapello UMC food pantry.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. February 14, 2015 at Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church.

She will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family.

Sherry’s outlook on life followed this quote: “Life is not  a journey to the grave in a pretty and well preserved body but rather to skid broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, proclaiming WOW-what a ride.”

Marvin Powell, Sr.

Marvin Ray Powell, Sr., 74, of El Paso, Ark., formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed away December 31, 2014, at Little Rock, Ark.

He was born January 1, 1940 in Poplar Bluff to the late Ephraim and Blanche Powell.  Self-employed, he owned a harness and tack shop.  He loved working with horses, building wagons and being with family.

On April 8, 1958, he married Thelma (Costin) Powell in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Dusty (Cathy) Powell, Sr. of Poplar Bluff, Lori (Joe) Dobbs of Conway, Ark., Marvin (Alysia) Powell Jr., of Little Rock, and Darren (Jo Ann) Powell of Harviell; 10 grandchildren, Dusty Powell, Jr., Cindy Elliott, Jessica Gray, Wesley and Jesse Harlan, Zachary and Brennon Powell , Dustin Powell and Justin and Austin Ward; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

Jerry D. Strickland

On December 20, 2014, Jerry D. Strickland joined his wife Frances Rae Pitt Strickland in Heaven.

He was 71 years old and spent his last years in Austin, Texas with his children and grandchildren.  Jerry was devoted to his family, hardworking, and a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Jerry was born July 5, 1943 in Kennett, Missouri to Juanita Mae Kinsey Strickland and Clinton Levi Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Rae Pitt Strickland and sisters, Willa Faye Hogeland and Patsy Sue Patterson. Bonnie Sue Chrisman of Dexter survives.

Continuing their father’s legacy are his daughter, Robyn Strickland Hawkins and her husband, Dan and his son, Jerry D. Strickland II, and his wife, Lara.  He is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, who he adored, Ella Frances, Miles Mitchell and Kinsey Faith.

Jerry was the dear uncle of nine nieces and seven nephews.

A memorial service to honor Jerry will be held at 11 a.m. January 10, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  Burial will take place at the City Cemetery immediately following the service.

Patricia Rowe

Patricia Mae Rowe, 56 , of Lebanon, Mo., passed away December 31, 2014 at Christian Healthcare South in Lebanon, Mo.

She was born May 19, 1958 in St. Louis, Mo. to the late Douglas Craig Addis and Stella Ima Jean Addis.  A stay at home mother, she loved to sing, dance, flea marketing, baking and spending time with friends. She was of the catholic faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Heather Tuggle and husband, Trampus and Randi Rowe-Trinkler and husband, Jason; three sisters, Glenda Piper, Beth Brown and Rita Houdashelt; four brothers, John, David, Larry and Everett Addis; five grandchildren, Matthew Morey, Trinity Tuggle, Lance Morey, Tangant Tuggle and Hunter Trinkler.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to UCAN, 1899 Westwood Blvd. Suite C, PMB#172, Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901. A benefit fund for Patricia Mae Rowe, has been established at First Midwest Bank.

Following the memorial service there will be a celebration of life gathering at Heather’s home.

Laverne Roy Dubois

Laverne Roy Dubois, 87, of Piedmont, Mo., passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Dubois was born December 1, 1927 in Dalton, Ark. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a supervisor at Boeing in St. Louis.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors are his children, Debbie Rock, JoAnn Dubois, Steve Dubois and Tammy Standford; two sisters, Dorothy Atwell and Jessie Helderman; two brothers, Ben Dubois and Darrell Dubois; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ethel Dubois, a sister, Edna Wyatt and three brothers, Rex, Ray and Bill Dubois.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 12 (noon) in the chapel.  Burial with full military honors will be held in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Dorothy Doty

Dorothy Nevada Doty, 86, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went to be with her Lord and Savior January 2, 2015, in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Doty was born July 5, 1928 in Rombauer, Mo. She was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping and cooking.  She volunteered as a receptionist at Baby View where her presence was adored by all.

She is survived by one son, Randy Mitchelle and wife, Linda of Rochester, Ill.; four daughters, Gayle Deem and husband, Gary of Poplar Bluff, Sharon Smith and husband, Charlie of Hot Springs, Ark., Kim Joyner and husband, Marian of Poplar Bluff, and Ronda Modglin and husband, Doug of Puxico, Mo.; a sister Fern Gillean of Alton, Ill.  She was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Mike, Eric and Ryan Mitchelle, Jill Wilson, Ashley Deem, Staci Krauss, Cody Smith, Spencer and Brody Modglin and 14 great-grandchildren Kaylee, Olivia, Caden, Carter, Christian, Jace, Mason, Gage, Kortney, Caroline, Jack, Kate, Lily and Charlotte.

Mrs. Doty is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Lela Ham; two husbands, Bob Mitchelle and Howard Doty as well as  two brothers, Ivan and Aden Ham.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff, followed by  funeral services at 11 a.m., in the chapel, with the Rev. Vernon Kneir officiating.  Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.
