Zelma Taylor

Zelma (Williamson) Taylor, 96, went to be with her Jesus Sunday, April 26, 2015, in Panama City, Florida.

Zelma lived much of her life around Corning, Ark. and Naylor, Missouri, where she was a homemaker and raised eight children. During WWII she moved to California with her oldest four and first husband. In California, she married her second husband Everett Lee Taylor who was career Navy and together they raised four more children. After retirement from the Navy they  moved to Fairdealing, where she lived until her husband’s death March 8, 1996. Later she moved to Pensacola, Florida and Panama City, Florida to be near her sons.

She went to be with Lord with many of her children by her bedside.

Zelma is survived by her daughters, Norma Blackwell of Rosesville, California, Wanda Pucell and (George) of Costa Mesa, California, Dinann Linger (Jeff) of Tallahassee, Florida, and Karen Wertenberger (Danny) of Doniphan, Missouri and her sons, William Cavitt (Patsy), Theron Taylor and Timothy Taylor of Panama City, Florida.

Zelma was predeceased by her husband, Everett Taylor, and her oldest daughter, Lillie Mae Williams.

Zelma was Pentecostal by faith and sincerely tried to live this faith by showing love for everyone.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. The funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Gum Cemetery near Naylor, Missouri.

Rex Walker

Rex Dewayne Walker, 57, of Saint Charles, Mo., formerly of Naylor, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015.

He was born on February 13, 1958 in Corona, California. He was a welder by trade and he enjoyed watching football games, playing pool, riding motorcycles and rabbit hunting.

He is survived by his mother and step father, Chris (Averhart) Young and Glen Young of Naylor; one daughter, April Marie Callicatt and a son, Luke Walker; two sisters, Bonnie White of Naylor and Iris Luebbert and husband, Ken of Saint Charles, Mo., as well as two grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his father, Harvey Walker.

No services are planned at this time.

Walter James Jr.

Walter Carl James Jr., 79 of Doniphan, Missouri passed away April 25, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. James was born September 12, 1935 at Neelyville, Missouri to the late Walter Carl James Sr. and Beulah Marie King. He was a carpenter and enjoyed Carpentry, fishing, watching baseball and working outside.

On June 30 1986 at Doniphan, Mo. he married  Linda Shelton in Doniphan, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are His children, Carl James and wife Sharon of Hannibal, Mo., Leroy James and wife Terry of Doniphan, Mo.; Sisters, Laura Gerard of Hannibal, Missouri Diane Barr of Steelville, Mo., Brothers, William James of Potosí, Mo and Tommy James of New London, Mo.; Five grandchildren, Ken James and wife Amber , Melissa Morgan and husband Mike , Kevin James and wife Melissa, Byron James and wife Deana , Stephanie Morgans and husband Gabe; and nine great grandchildren Alex James, Keathen Morgan, Andrew James, AutymnJames, Kelden Morgan, Amaris Morgan, Carson James, Raelyn Morgans and Wyatt James also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one daughter Marilyn Sue James, Sisters, Barbara Nolte and Dorothy Dodson and brothers, Roger and Authur James.

Visitation will be Tuesday April 28, 2015 beginning at 5 pm with the funeral Wednesday April 29, 2015 at 11 am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Mo. Burial will be in the Naylor Memorial Cemetery with Donnie Fowler and Rev. Ken James officiating

Lavon Batten

Lavon Hazel Batten, 93, of Halls, TN., formerly of Naylor, Mo., passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at Tennovia Residential and Hospice.

Mrs. Batten was born on Oct. 31, 1921 in Maynard, Ar. She was the secretary and treasure at Naylor High School. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, sewing and crafts. She attended the Naylor Christian Church and a member of Naylor Neighbors.

On May 14, 1942 she married John L. Batten II in Yuma, AZ. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1996.

Survivors include, her daughter, Mary Beth Smith, of Knoxville, TN.; 2 grandsons, Mathew Smith & wife Jessica, Benjamin Smith & wife Kimberly; and several nieces & nephews.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, John L. Batten Jr.; John L. Batten Jr.; her parents, William Harrison Spencer and Beulah Brooks Spencer; 2 sisters, and one grandson, Charles Daniel Smith.

Services will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve McFadden officiating. As well as a graveside service that will take place at Naylor Memorial Cemetery Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Roy Boozer

Roy David Boozer, 69, of Doniphan, Mo., formerly of Ar., Az., and IL., passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015.

Mr. Boozer was born May 28, 1945 in Arkansas. He has been a member of Ripley County for 30 years and worked as a carpenter who enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his children, James L. Boozer, David E. Boozer, both of Doniphan, Tracy R. Henson of Campbell, Mo., and Brandy N. Boozer of Fairdealing, Mo.; his sisters Louise, Vivian, and Ann; as well as three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Boozer, and his brothers.

Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and funeral beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Whitmer officiating. Burial will be held at New Home Cemetery in Tucker, Mo.

Francisco Vega Sr.

Francisco Torres Vega Sr., 47, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Vega was born February 18, 1968, in Buffalo, N.Y.  He was co-founder and member of Crossroads Church and a member of Community Watch and Men of Faith in Action.  He also was an installer for Fowler Flooring.  Mr. Vega enjoyed fishing, music, community engagement activities and volunteer work.

On September 26, 1986, he married Cynthia Vega.  She survives.

Other survivors include his father and stepmother, Chico and DeeDee Vega; mother and stepfather, Grace and Willie Schrock; 36 siblings; four children, Christina Lewis, Shawn Torres Vega, Francisco Torres Vega Jr. and Elijah James Torres Vega; six grandchildren, Justice Lorraine Octavia Lewis, Jada LeeAnn Willow Lewis, David Lewis IV, Shakira Lewis, Bryson Vega and D’Artaryan Torres Vega; as well as two great-grandchildren, Jazlynn Lewis and Jocelynn Lewis.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church.  The funeral service will follow with Bishop Ron Webb and Jimmy Wagner of Crossroads Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

MARY CHRISTINE COOLEY OF DONIPHAN MO DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON Saturday, APRIL 18,2015 AT SOUTHEAST HEALTH CENTER OF RIPLEY CO IN DONIPHAN, MO. SHE WAS BORN DECEMBER 20,1925 IN CARUTHERSVILLE,MO.

MRS COOLEY IS PROCEEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENT EDGAR AND SALLY SMITH, THREE BROTHERS, FOUR SISTERS, 2 GRANDSONS GARY(TONY) KERPERIEN AND WESLEY JAY MEADORS.

ON NOVEMBER 18, 1944 SHE MARRIED ROBERT COOLEY IN NEW MADRID, MO. HE SURVIVES.

OTHER SURVIVORS INCLUDE TEN CHILDREN: GAIL (RICH) TURNER OF PROTEM, MO.

LARRY COOLEY OF CAHOKIA, IL. PATRICIA (GUY) MEADORS OF DONIPHAN, MO. ROBERT W. COOLEY OF SPARTA, IL. MARY WILLIAMS OF CAHOKIA, IL. KATHLEEN (GARY) KERPERIEN OF BALDWIN, IL. WILLIAM COOLEY OF DESOTO, MO. DOYLE (JOANN) COOLEY OF O’FALLON, IL. RALPH COOLEY OF COUMBIA, IL. DONNIE COOLEY OF SMITHTON, IL. ONE HUNDRED AND six GRANDCHILDREN.

 

MRS COOLEY ENJOYED GARDENING. BEFORE RETIRING AND MOVING TO DONIPHAN SHE WORKED AT MOORES CAFE. SHE WAS VERY WELL KNOWN FOR HER COCOA GRAVY AND PANCAKES BY ALL WHO KNEW HER. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE NEW LIFE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH IN DONIPHAN, MO. SHE LOVED HER FAMILY.

VISITATION WILL BE AT THE FOWLER-Sulivan MEMORIAL CHAPEL IN NEELYVILLE MO ON TUESDAY APRIL 21, 2015 FROM-6:OO-8:00 PM. THE FUNERAL WILL BE AT NEW LIFE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH IN DONIPHAN, MO ON APRIL 22,2015 AT 11:00 AM. OFFICIATING, PASTOR HAROLD SHEPPARD. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE DONIPHAN CEMETERY

Deborah Whitt

Deborah Jean Whitt, 59, of Neelyville, Mo., passed away Sat., April 18, 2015.

Mrs. Whitt was born June 15, 1955 in Pocahontas, AR. She worked as a homemaker and was a 1973 Naylor High School graduate. She enjoyed embroidering and was of the Baptist Faith. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

On April 8, 1978 she married Jerry Whitt in Coon Island, Mo. He survives.

Other Survivors include her children, Jerry Lee Whitt of Neelyville, Mo., Jason Whitt of Richmond, Mo.; her sisters, Barbara Hart of Williamsville, Mo., Brenda Warren of Oxly, Mo., Bonnie Connelly of Williamsville, Mo. Denise Williamson of Harviell, Mo.; her brother Dewane Hart of Success, Ar.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. It will take place at Roberts Cemetery with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Arthur Nelson Silman

Arthur Nelson Silman, 72, of Doniphan, Mo., formerly of Marston, Grandin, and Fenton, Mo., died Sat. April 18, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Silman was born, July 5, 1942 in Tallapoosa, Mo. He worked with timber as a logger/skidder operator. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on automobiles, and his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children; Lisa Weis, of Irondale,  Mo., Melissa Tyler, Elisha Silman, LaShawna Phillips, Amber McDonnald, Shane Brandon, and Shannon Brandon, all of Ellsinore, Mo., Arthur Silman Jr., Richard Silman, both of Bonne Terre, Mo., James Brandon of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Michael Brandon of Peculiar, Mo., his sisters Ann Silman of Doniphan, Mo., Billy Julius of Grandin, Mo.; her brothers, Gary Silman of Naylor, Mo., Tony Silman of Aurora, IL., and Scott Silman of Doniphan, Mo.; 29 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as an adopted sister of the heart, Crystal Harvey; and his next best friend, Betty Whitlow.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ben Silman and Pauline Beegle Silman; his sister, Connie Silman; and brother, Cleatus Silman

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Reynolds. Burial will take place at the Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.

Earl Dunlap

Earl Dunlap, 81, of Dexter died at 10 pm Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born March 25, 1934, at Bumcomb, Mo. Mr. Dunlap was a farmer. He had lived in the Naylor and Neelyville areas until he moved to Stoddard County in October 2014. His parents were Clarence Dunlap and Iva Hover.

He served on the Kinsey Cemetery Board for 50 years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and he enjoyed Cardinal Baseball. He was a member of the Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center in Poplar Bluff. He served on the church board and was a usher.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. He married Dorothy White September 18, 1970 in Poplar Bluff and she survives.

Other survivors are one daughter, Rhonda Churchill and husband, Dan of Dexter, Mo.; Two sisters, Marie Burnley of Murray, Ky and Mary Clem of Kahoka, Mo.; three brothers, Howard Dunlap of Harviell, Everett Dunlap of Plymonth, Ill. and Walter Dunlap of Revere, Mo.; and grandchildren, Katarrah and Serina Churchhill.

He was preceded in death by on brother, Cecil, and one sister Betty Dunlap.

Visitation will begin at 6p.m. Saturday a the Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Worship Center. Officiating will be Rev. Ted Elledge and Pastor Jerry Williams. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery.
