Kenneth Vert

Kenneth Vert, 65, of Fisk, Mo. passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Saint Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Vert was born December 27, 1949 in Poplar Bluff.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He retired from the John J. Pershing VA Hospital. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On January 8, 1972 he married Linda (Baldridge) Vert in Broseley, Mo.  She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Hazel (Kirkley) Vert; one daughter, Stacy Vaughn and son, Kenny Vert; two sisters, Dorothy Foster and Mary Miller; one brother, Charles Vert; two grandchildren, Cody and Shane Vaughn.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Vert and brothers, John Vert, James Vert and twins, Floyd and Loyd Vert and one sister, Annabel Dwynell.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m.  Pastor Arvin Haynes will officiate.  Burial will be held in the Kinsey Cemetery with full military rites.

Calvin Stroup

Calvin Ray Stroup, 68, of Puxico, Mo., died Monday April 13, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Stroup was born Nov. 21, 1946 in Puxico, Mo. He has been a lifelong member of the area and worked in construction as a home builder. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, the outdoors, and his grandchildren. He attended First Apostolic Church in Sturtevant, Mo.

He is survived by his children, Kevin & wife Krystal of Marble Hill, Mo., Kenny Stroup & wife Julia, and Keith Stroup & wife Cristi, all of Bloomfield, Mo., Jason Stroup and Mechelle Stroup both of Puxico, Mo.; his brothers, James Lee Stroup of Laplace La., William Auther Stroup of Dexter, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Calvin Stroup and Rebecca Canoy Stroup; his brother, Jerry Wayne Stroup; and one grandchild.

Funeral arrangements will take place Wednesday, April 15, 2015 with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and funeral at 1:00 p.m. The services will take place at the First Apostolic Church in Sturtevant, Mo., with Rev. Donnie Fowler and Pastor Dale Holman Officiating.

Donna Capps

Donna Fae (Phillips) Capps, 62, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., entered her heavenly home on Sunday, April 12, 2015.

Donna was born to John and Freda Phillips on Oct. 16, 1952.

She married James L. Capps on September 12, 1975.  She was a member of the Third Baptist Church where she ministered alongside her husband, who is pastor.

She graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1970. She had worked at Sterlings, Bambi Bread, Falcon Cable and Enstar Cable.  She loved to be around people and enjoyed reading her Bible.

Donna is survived by her husband, James; one daughter, Kimberly; her mother, Freda Phillips; one sister, Sharon Poe (Don) , her sister-in-law, Ruby Melton; brother-in-law,  Jerry Capps (Terri); sister-in-law, Brenda Smith (Roy); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Phillips; her father-in-law, Lonzo Capps and mother-in-law, Mary Capps and brother-in-law, James Moore.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev. Jerry Capps officiating.  Burial will be in the Little Brushy Cemetery, Lake Wappapello.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Gideons International.

Malani Nichole Willcut

Malani  Nichole Willcut

Was stillborn on April 8,2015 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her parents, Tyler Willcut  and Maranda Windsor,  grandparents Barbara Strickland , Jimmy Austill, Patricia Austill. all of Poplar Bluff.

A grandfather Larry Strickland preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held Monday April 13,2015 at 1 pm  at the Neelyville Cemetery in Neelyville.

Treika Jean Franklin Lester

Treika Jean Franklin Lester, 68, of Lebanon IN., formerly of Naples, FL.,  died Friday, April 3, 2015 at Homewood Health Campus in IN.

Mrs. Treika was born April 15, 1946 in TX. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She married Albert Lester and he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2010.

Besides her husband, also preceding her in death are her parents Hayden Leonard Howard and Mary Agness Whitecloud.

She is survived by her 3 children, Alberta Brill of Camby IN., Jeffery Lester of Naples, FL., Dale Franklin, of Lebanon, IN.; 1 step brother; 1 step-sister; and 9 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neelyville Cemetery in Neelyville, Mo.

Raymond Lee Taylor

Raymond Lee Taylor, 65, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, near Farmington, Mo.

He was born August 27, 1949, in Malden, Mo.  His wife, Nancy Taylor, preceded him in death February 24, 2011.

Survivors include his children, Raymond Simmons (Kim), Mark Simmons (Jennifer), George Morley, and Christopher Morley; one sister, Martha McMunn and sister-in-law, Brenda Hart; four grandchildren, Amber, Jacob, Joshua and Maci Simmons.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Charles Taylor and Roberta Cantrell, as well as one son, John Morley and brother, John McMunn.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.

Joyce Crook

Joyce Maxine Crook, 87, of Naylor, Mo., formerly of Gary, Ind, died Sat., April 4, 2015 at Southeast Hospital in Doniphan, Mo.

Mrs. Crook was born June 4, 1927 in Vanceburg, KY. She worked as an assistant postmaster for the Postal Service. She was a member of the Church of God, and enjoyed sewing, word search puzzles, Christmas village, gardening, and ceramics.

On July 4, 1954 she married Rev. Gilbert T. Crook in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1985.

Survivors include 4 children, Robert Sandy of Hohenwald TN., Thelma Wagner and Lori Crook, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Tammy Crook of Naylor, Mo.; 1 sister, Shirley Ewing, of Schererville, Ind.;4 grandchildren, Sarah & husband Eric, Sheri, Kristy, Jesse; 5 great-grandchildren, January, Eric Jr., Michael, Gabriel, and Evan.

Besides her husband, also preceding her in death are her daughter, Juanita Crook; her son, Gilbert Crook II; her parents, Norman Akers, and Bertha Lewis Akers; 1 sister, Sue Garrison; 2 brothers, Norman Akers and Robert Akers.

Visitation will be Wed., April 8, 2015 from 6: p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Ron Fowler officiating. Burial will be held at Gum Cemetery.

Charles Forister

Charles Lee Forister, 69, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away April 3, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Forister was born July 28, 1945, in Poplar Bluff.  He graduated from Poplar Bluff High in 1961, attended Arkansas State University and Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique.  He was employed as a medical technologist until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the First Christian Church, The Poplar Bluff York Rite, Masonic and Elks Lodge.  He was a talented musician, who as a young man played lead and bass guitar in several area bands.  Later in life he enjoyed painting in the medium of watercolor.  He spent many happy hours in antique and flea markets searching for treasures of the past.  He especially enjoyed collecting and restoring antique toys.  He also maintained a photographic history of Poplar Bluff and Butler County. On June 3, 1967 he married LuWanna Lynch, in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.  Also surviving are his mother, Syble (Casey) Emerson; brother-in-law, Gaylon Lynch; 2 step-sisters, Judy (Jim) Carman and Theresa Emerson, both of Springfield, Mo. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Forister; step-father, Loyd Emerson; mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Arushia Lynch and a brother-in-law, Bruce Lynch. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday April 7, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  A Masonic service will begin at 2 p.m. with the funeral service to follow.  Rev. Jeffery Hammonds will officiate.  Burial will be in the City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Christian Church 1601 North Main St. Poplar Bluff, MO 63901

Wanda “Poteet” Fritchley

Wanda Lee “Poteet” Fritchley, 53, of Corning, Arkansas, passed away April 1, 2015 in the Pocahontas Rehab and Wound Center. She was born in Reyno. Arkansas May 1, 1961 to William Poteet and Alma McWilliams Poteet.

Mrs. Fritchley was a member of the First Christian Church in Corning, Arkansas. She enjoyed bird watching, singing, writing songs and flowers, fishing, arrowhead hunting, reading the Bible. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by: one daughter, Brittany Richardson of Festus, Missouri, two sons, Daniel Fritchley and Dillion Fritchley both of Fredericktown, Missouri. her mother, Alma Poteet of Biggers, Arkansas, four sisters, Helen Poteet and Patsy Poteet both of Biggers, Arkansas, Rose Bryant Corning, Arkansas, and Rebecca Murray of Datto, Arkansas. Two brothers, Billy Poteet, and Earl Poteet both of Biggers, Arkansas. Her Grandchildren, Amelia, and Oliver Richardson.

Mrs. Fritchley was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will begin Saturday April 4, 2015 starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Johnson Cemetery at Reyno, Arkansas with Pastor Tim Burgess officiating.

Bobby D. Payne

Bobby D. Payne, 67, of Harviell, Mo., passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Payne was born May 22, 1947, to the late Tillman Payne and Lois Burns-Payne, in Salinas, Calif.

Mr. Payne was of the Pentecostal faith.  He was a truck driver and enjoyed trucks, mechanics, carpentry, camping, hunting and woodworking.

On April 29, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart and mother of his children, Shannon (Tillery) Payne in Watsonville, Calif.

Other survivors include his children, Tammy Payne Miller, Misty Payne Flores, and Heather Payne; seven grandchildren, Anna Cole, Brittney Miller, Taylor Flores, Ashley Flores, Alanea Lopez, M’cKenzie Payne and Adyn Payne and one great-grandchild, Darby Cole.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Payne.

Visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 with Bro. Danny Sisco and Pastor Greg Gilberto officiating.  Burial will be in the Hitt Cemetery, Success Arkansas.
