Dena Marie Starling

Dena Marie Starling, 40, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at her home.

Dena was born July 8, 1975 in Poplar Bluff.  She work as a convenience store clerk and enjoyed fishing, football, camping, cats and dogs, but most of all being with her daughter, Amber.

She is survived by her parents, Ray Starling and Darla (Hendrickson) Starling; her daughter, Amber Mills; and one brother, David Starling.

A memorial service may be held at a later date.  Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff in charge of arrangements.

Alma Poteet

Alma Nadolia Poteet, 78, of Biggers, Ar. passed away on Dec. 24, 2015.

Mrs. Poteet was born on Sept. 29, 1937 in Charleston, Mo. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, circle word puzzles and reading her Bible. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

On April 12, 1956, She married William Poteet. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2015.

She is survived by her children, Helen Poteet, Patsy Ann Poteet, Billy Poteet, and Earl Poteet, all of Biggers, Ar., Rose Bryant of Corning, Ar., and Rebecca Murray of Datto, Ar.; sister, Carolyn Rush of Festus, Mo.; brother, Jack McWilliams, of Rockford, Il.; 9 grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, Sonja, Dakota, Britney, Nora, Daniel, Dillion and John; and 6 great-grandchildren, Josephine, Sybell, Tommy, Amelia, Oliver, and Jamie.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by, one daughter, Wanda Lee Fritchley; parents, Calvin McWilliams and Roslan (Duff) McWilliams; as well as one sister, Zelma Staggs.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at from 12:00 – 1:00 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m.  in the Chapel with Tim Burgess officiating. Burial will take place at the Johnston Cemetery in Reyno, Ar.

Sammy Couch

Sammy Albert Couch the son of Albert Couch and Mildred Bogle Couch was born on Jan. 12, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan and departed this life on December 24, 2015 at the Corning Therapy Living Center in Corning, Ar. He lived 73 years 11 months and 19 days.

He was married to Deborah Bradberry and she survives. Also surviving is one son, Todd Couch; one sister, Helen Chadwick; two brothers, Tommy Couch and Bill Couch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mildred Couch.

Sammy enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a retired truck driver.

He was a resident of Corning, Ar.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. A Graveside service will begin at 1:30 at the Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal, Ar.

James Huskey

James Huskey, 54, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Huskey was born June 25, 1961, in St. Louis, Mo.  He worked as a truck driver and had served in the Army National Guard.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

W. Kenneth Hillis

W. Kenneth Hillis, 64, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015, at his business, Hillis Transport of Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Hillis was born April 28, 1951, in Poplar Bluff, to the late Willard and Naomi Hillis.  He was owner/operator of Hillis Transport, LLC. and a member of Fairview  Baptist Church.  He enjoyed tractors, camping and loved his grandchildren dearly.

On March 11, 1972, he married Mary (Armstrong) Hillis, who preceded him in death May 27, 1983, later marring Mary (McCullough) Hillis on June 30, 1990.  She passed away July 1, 2010.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Fiske and husband, Eddie; two sisters, Gloria Crutchfield (Brad) and Rhonda Bennett (Jim); as well as two grandchildren, Erin Nicole Fiske and Kenneth Jacob Fiske.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gene Hillis and one grandson, Christopher Arvel Fiske.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Ralph Mayes officiating.  Burial will be held in the Kinsey Cemetery, Harviell, Mo.

Deborah Ruth Powell

Deborah Ruth Powell, 57, of Dudley, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Powell was born on Jan. 4, 1959, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a housekeeper at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Her hobbies included, spending time with grandchildren watching cooking shows and cooking. She was a member of a bowling league and had numerous bowling trophies. She was of the Baptist faith.

On May 19, 1974 she married Manuel Danny Powell in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Elvira Capper, Danielle McElhaney, and Danny Powell all of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Melissa Coleman of Doniphan, Mo.; her mother, Elvira (Davis) Whitmer of Lakeland, Fl.; 5 sisters, Margie Patterson, Doris Stallings, Pam Freeman, Lilly Whitmer, Shirley Whitmer; 11 grandchildren, Maryia Powell, Ryan Kirk, Brianna Capper, Austin Coleman, Tyler Kirk, Nathan Coleman, Elizabeth Kirk, Savanah Powell, Darla Wilkerson-Powell, Emma Powell, and Ryker Powell; 1 great-grandchild, Leo Capper; as well as numerous friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Whitmer; and 2 sisters, Connie and Cindy Whitmer.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Sharron Stadler officiating. Burial will be at Cyprus Creek Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo.

Wayne Edward Ernest

Wayne Edward Ernest, 89, of Poplar Bluff, passed away December 20, 2015 at Cedergate Nursing Facility.

Mr. Ernest was born January 28, 1926, in La Cross, Wisconsin to the late George Edward Ernest and Elizabeth Florence Baker-Ernest.

He was an electrician,  repaired jewelry and  was of Methodist faith.  Mr. Ernest was a Navy veteran of WWII.

In 1946, he was married to Mary Sperdeck and she survives.  Also surviving are children; James Edward Ernest, Jeanne Elizabeth Wisniowski, Jerome Wayne Ernest and David Andrew Ernest; brother; Norton Leland Ernest; grandchildren; Mykel David Ernest, Drew Allen Edward Ernest, Bryanne Elizabeth Ruth Ernest and great-grandchild; Jack Dylan Ernest

Mary Ann Vaultin Ide

On Sunday, December 20, 2015, Mary Ann Vaultin Ide passed away at her home at the age of 71.

Mary was born at home, in Craighead County Arkansas, December 9, 1944, to the late Willard and Tular Pruitt.  Mary grew up in Piedmont, Mo. and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1964.  While in high school, she sang in a gospel quartet and recorded music for the General Baptist Hour on a local radio station. After high school, Mary relocated to St. Louis, worked at Forum Cafeteria, and joined a trophy-winning bowling team.  Late in 1964, she moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she worked at a garment factory until the doors closed in 1966.  She became a nurse assistant at Foote Hospital and worked there for eleven years.

In 1967 she married William Raliegh Petty, who passed away in 1970.  She later married Gerald L. Ide in 1976.  In 1980, Mary moved to Poplar Bluff, Mo. and married Burt L. Ide who passed away in 1986.

Mary worked at the Assembly of God Nursing Home (now Whispering Oakes) and retired from Mark Twain Caring Center after forty-four years as a CNA.

Survivors include three children, Roger Petty, Geraldine Hadley, and Ronald Ide; three grandchildren: David, Phillip and Kenneth Hadley; three sisters, Judy Johnson, Tressie Kirby and Jennie Deakins; two brothers, Tommy and John Pruitt; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; William Petty and Burt Ide, a brother-in-law, James Johnson; a step son, Michael Petty, and a son-in-law William J. Hadley.

Family requests donations be made to UCAN 1899 N. Westwood Suite C #172  Poplar Bluff, Mo  63901 or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral will be at 10:30am Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Willie C Walker

Willie C. Walker, 81, of Naylor, Missouri, passed away December 16, 2015 at his residence.  He was born March 17, 1934 at Naylor,Missouri to the late Earl Walker and Vanna Huson Walker.

On June 18, 1955 at St. Charles, Missouri He was married Evon Davis. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Dottie Proctor and Janet Walker both of Naylor, Missouri. Two granddaughters they raised in their home, Ashley Newkirk and Krista Lacey. He is also survived by; sisters, Debbie Crump of Naylor, Missouri, Darlene Srader, Barbara Niswonger both of Doniphan, Missouri and Wanda Griffin of Naylor, Missouri. two brothers, Charles Walker of Doniphan, Missouri and Darrell Walker of Imboden, Arkansas.  Thirteen grandchildren and 25 great grand children also survive.

Willie was preceded in death by two daughters; Anita Tyler and Linda Sue Walker as well as granddaughter, Tasha Scott, great grandsons, Damian Winters and Noah Morris, one sister, Lula Belle Camp.

He enjoyed, gardening, fishing,  family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed landscaping. He was a member of  Church of Christ.

Visitation will be Friday December 18, 2015 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Mo starting at 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Saturday December 19, 2015 in the St.Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery in St. Charles, Missouri. with Donnie Fowler officiating

Caden Jamal “Bug” McComb

Caden Jamal “Bug” McComb, 21, of Paragould, Arkansas, departed this life Monday December 7, 2015 in Paragould, Arkansas.

Mr. McComb was born September 26, 1994 to Percy Law Sr. and Brenda McComb. Both survive.

Also surviving are a son: Jayden McComb, two sisters: Holly Johnson and husband, James of Marked Tree, Arkansas and Valerie Anderson and husband Ralph of Nashville, Tennessee; three brothers; Terry Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Percy law Jr of Nashville, Tennessee and Trey McComb and wife, Toni of Corning, Arkansas; grandmother Betty McComb of Neelyville, Missouri as well as eight uncles and mine aunts and many other friends and family.

He also leaves to mourn his passing, his own personal posse; Cassia Williams, Leslie Williams, Tamara Cates, Autumn Dodd, Azslia Campbell, Desmond Campbell, Darren Hogan, Britany Root and Deyvi Munoz and Tietsha Taylor.

He was a machine operator and in his spare time enjoyed basketball, music, fishing, building bonfires, aggravating his dad, spending time with his cousins; brother Devin Gibson, an very special friend, Ashley Dalton, and special friend, Snookie. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his son.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015, with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m., at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Neelyville, Cemetery with Pastor Donnell McComb officiating.
