Dena Marie Starling

Dena Marie Starling, 40, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at her home.

Dena was born July 8, 1975 in Poplar Bluff.  She work as a convenience store clerk and enjoyed fishing, football, camping, cats and dogs, but most of all being with her daughter, Amber.

She is survived by her parents, Ray Starling and Darla (Hendrickson) Starling; her daughter, Amber Mills; and one brother, David Starling.

A memorial service may be held at a later date.  Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff in charge of arrangements.

James Huskey

James Huskey, 54, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Huskey was born June 25, 1961, in St. Louis, Mo.  He worked as a truck driver and had served in the Army National Guard.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

W. Kenneth Hillis

W. Kenneth Hillis, 64, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015, at his business, Hillis Transport of Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Hillis was born April 28, 1951, in Poplar Bluff, to the late Willard and Naomi Hillis.  He was owner/operator of Hillis Transport, LLC. and a member of Fairview  Baptist Church.  He enjoyed tractors, camping and loved his grandchildren dearly.

On March 11, 1972, he married Mary (Armstrong) Hillis, who preceded him in death May 27, 1983, later marring Mary (McCullough) Hillis on June 30, 1990.  She passed away July 1, 2010.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Fiske and husband, Eddie; two sisters, Gloria Crutchfield (Brad) and Rhonda Bennett (Jim); as well as two grandchildren, Erin Nicole Fiske and Kenneth Jacob Fiske.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gene Hillis and one grandson, Christopher Arvel Fiske.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Ralph Mayes officiating.  Burial will be held in the Kinsey Cemetery, Harviell, Mo.

Wayne Edward Ernest

Wayne Edward Ernest, 89, of Poplar Bluff, passed away December 20, 2015 at Cedergate Nursing Facility.

Mr. Ernest was born January 28, 1926, in La Cross, Wisconsin to the late George Edward Ernest and Elizabeth Florence Baker-Ernest.

He was an electrician,  repaired jewelry and  was of Methodist faith.  Mr. Ernest was a Navy veteran of WWII.

In 1946, he was married to Mary Sperdeck and she survives.  Also surviving are children; James Edward Ernest, Jeanne Elizabeth Wisniowski, Jerome Wayne Ernest and David Andrew Ernest; brother; Norton Leland Ernest; grandchildren; Mykel David Ernest, Drew Allen Edward Ernest, Bryanne Elizabeth Ruth Ernest and great-grandchild; Jack Dylan Ernest

Mary Ann Vaultin Ide

On Sunday, December 20, 2015, Mary Ann Vaultin Ide passed away at her home at the age of 71.

Mary was born at home, in Craighead County Arkansas, December 9, 1944, to the late Willard and Tular Pruitt.  Mary grew up in Piedmont, Mo. and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1964.  While in high school, she sang in a gospel quartet and recorded music for the General Baptist Hour on a local radio station. After high school, Mary relocated to St. Louis, worked at Forum Cafeteria, and joined a trophy-winning bowling team.  Late in 1964, she moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she worked at a garment factory until the doors closed in 1966.  She became a nurse assistant at Foote Hospital and worked there for eleven years.

In 1967 she married William Raliegh Petty, who passed away in 1970.  She later married Gerald L. Ide in 1976.  In 1980, Mary moved to Poplar Bluff, Mo. and married Burt L. Ide who passed away in 1986.

Mary worked at the Assembly of God Nursing Home (now Whispering Oakes) and retired from Mark Twain Caring Center after forty-four years as a CNA.

Survivors include three children, Roger Petty, Geraldine Hadley, and Ronald Ide; three grandchildren: David, Phillip and Kenneth Hadley; three sisters, Judy Johnson, Tressie Kirby and Jennie Deakins; two brothers, Tommy and John Pruitt; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; William Petty and Burt Ide, a brother-in-law, James Johnson; a step son, Michael Petty, and a son-in-law William J. Hadley.

Family requests donations be made to UCAN 1899 N. Westwood Suite C #172  Poplar Bluff, Mo  63901 or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral will be at 10:30am Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

James Duane Anderson

James Duane Anderson, 49, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Anderson was born July 22, 1966 in The Dalles, Oregan.  He worked in auto body repair and enjoyed fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his parents, Clarence Daniel Anderson and Viola (Evinger) Anderson; and one daughter, Bethany Mae Anderson.

A brother, Randy Anderson, preceded him in death.

Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff in care, with no services planned.

Melvina Johnson

Melvina MaeElla Johnson, 92, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Johnson was born February 9, 1923, in Poplar Bluff, to the late James and Marjorie (Ferby) Cleveland. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.  She enjoyed crocheting, canning, gardening, fishing and loved cooking.

Survivors include her children, Carolyen Benson, Sandra R. Taylor, Bruce W. Benson (Monica), Portia M. Johnson, Marshall D. Johnson, and Aaron K. Johnson; 21 grandchildren, Shana Benson, Shelisa Benson, Carol Benson, Portia Benson, John Taylor, William Taylor, Lamont Reed, Nakia Benson, Alex McCain, Bruce Williams, Sandra Williams, Brittany Miller, Marquis Benson, Moenika Ellis, Kevin Surratt, Tameika Benson, Brandon Johnson, Melvina Johnson, Tiwanna McCain, Ray Broege and Ashley Broege; as well as 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Edgar Benson Jr.; 3 sisters, Thelma Underwood, Henrietta Lewis and Beatrice Barnes and one brother, Elijah Lewis Ferby.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Dennie Ray Howdeshell Sr.

Dennie Ray Howdeshell Sr. 72, of Williamsville, Mo., passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015 at his home.

Dennie was born March 28, 1943, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late Rudy Howdeshell and Nora (Skinner) Howdeshell.

He married Linda (Dare) Howdeshell in 1980, in Poplar Bluff.  She preceded him in death December 29, 2013.

He was a carpenter by trade working in home construction. His hobbies included fishing and watching television. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are his children, Mike Howdeshell, Dennie “Rusty” Howdeshell Jr. and Denise Darnell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held  at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Black Creek Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

Donald M. Jones

Donald M. Jones, 66, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away December 1, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Jones was born October 16, 1949, in Coon Island, to the late Clarence Jones and Della Sims-Jones.

Mr. Jones had been a truck driver all his life and he enjoyed drawing cartoons.

On February 18, 1996 he married Laurel “Bobbi” Jones in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.  Also surviving are children, Rebecca, Donny, J J, Erica, Kelsey, Kirsten and several step-children; four sisters, Tina Sadler-Stark, Geraldine Griffith, Midge Hamlet, and Freda Johnson; one brother, Jackson Jones; as well as several grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.

A MEMORIAL service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 2 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff, with Ron Fowler officiating.  His cremains will be buried privately, at Kinsey Cemetery in Harviell Mo.
