Shirley Kay Swafford

Shirley Kay Swafford, “Squirrely”, 60, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away  Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

She was born May 4, 1955 in Wood River, Ill. A believer in God, she was a homemaker and “the boss”.  She enjoyed yard sales, tanning, listening to the Beatles, and being with family.

On July 1, 1982 she married David Swafford, in Poplar Bluff.  He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Amanda (Wayne) Eversole, Bobby Lee Swafford (Valerie Thompson), and Lisa Marie Swafford; nine grandchildren, Kaylee Forsythe, Gavin Forsythe, Daisha Gutierrez, Grace Ann Hager, Desirae Swafford, Shirley Kay Swafford, Cody Pruett, Joseph Eversole, and Emily Eversole, and a special lady who she considered to be an aunt, Kathleen Kinder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Hilda (Figgy) Bruce; her favorite uncle, Charles E. Bruce and her aunt, Jessie Bruce.

Fowler-Sullivan Funeral in Poplar Bluff, in charge with no services planned at this time.

Tina Sadler Stark

Well known gospel singer and song writer, Tina Sadler Stark, 70, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at her home.

She was born January 23, 1946, in Qulin, Mo., to the late Clarence Leroy and Della Marie (Sims) Jones.

She was a member of the Palace of Praise Church.  She loved traveling and singing His praises and had written several gospel songs that many major artists have recorded.  She was a recipient of two Dove Awards in 2001 and 2002.

On June 5, 1966 she married Billie Mack Sadler.  He preceded her in death March 3, 2015.  They were married 48 years.

On November 14, 2015, she married Rusty Stark. He survives.

Also surviving are children, Brian Sadler, Paula Sadler, Sharon Regini, Susan Roche, Sarah Kersy and Samantha Stark; three sisters, Freda Johnson, Geraldine Griffith, and Mildred Hamlett and one brother, Charles Jones; as well as one granddaughter, Christina Whitaker.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at Palace of Praise Church, 1400 Herschell Bess Blvd. Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by the funeral service at 12 noon with Bishop Kent Miller and Rev. Randy West officiating.  Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc.

Sherry (Smith) Willis

Sherry Virginia (Smith) Willis ,61, of Broseley, Mo, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Titusville, Florida.

Sherry was born October 13, 1954 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Virgil and Grace Smith.  Both preceded her in death. She  was a member of Ash Hill General Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee.  She loved working in the church and enjoyed gardening and quilting.  She retired as a Correctional Officer.

Survivors include three sisters, Judy Cash of Hillsboro, Mo., Barbara Cash (Larry) of Poplar Bluff, and Kay Trout (Darrell) of Fisk; three brothers, Jim Cornell (Anne) of Broseley, Richard Wright (Darlene) and Virgil Smith Jr. (Norma) all of Poplar Bluff; one aunt, June Allen and sister-in-law, Janie Smith; as well as six nieces, four nephews and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral service at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.  Pastor Gary Hancock will officiate services.  Burial will be in Browns Chapel Cemetery.

Beatrice Lorene Foster

Beatrice Lorene Foster, 70, of Neelyville, Mo., passed away on Tues. April 5, 2016 at her home.

Ms. Foster was born on July 26, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. She worked as a locksmith and enjoyed watching T.V., flowers, house plants, gardening and taking care of her children.

Beatrice was preceded in death by 3 husbands, Carlos Merchant, Stanley Whitmer and Mike Foster; one sister and one brother.

She is survived by 6 sons, Gene Merchant of Wichita, KS., Mark Merchant of Branson, Mo., Timothy Merchant of Neelyville, Mo., William Merchant, of Neelyville, Mo., Ronnie Whitmer of Branson, Mo., and Mathew Whitmer of Branson, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville.

Jerry Lee Alexander

Jerry Lee Alexander, 53, of St. Louis, MO., formerly of Neelyville, passed away on Sun. April 3, 2016.

Mr. Alexander was born on Sept. 10, 1962 in St. Louis, Mo. His hobbies included, Fishing, playing cards, cardinal baseball and spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his mother, Mary Lou Ramo of St. Louis, Mo.; Brothers, Mark Ramo of St. Louis, Mo., John Alexander and Bobbie Alexander, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo; sisters, Brenda Wright of Troy, Mo., Judy Henson of Bon Terre, Mo., Donna Bowen and Darleen Dale, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Billy Eugene Alexander on March 31, 1997; and one  brother, Billy Alexander

Mary M. Mitchell Stull

Mary M. Mitchell Stull, 87, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Neelyville, passed away Wednesday, March 30 at Cedargate Nursing Center.

Ms. Stull was born Feb. 12, 1929 in Piggott, Ark. she married James S. Mitchell on Aug. 14, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1985. Later she married Clarence Abe Stull, who preceded her in death in 1996. Ms. Stull enjoyed dancing, visiting flea markets and cooking.

Mr. Stull is survived by her three sons; Don Mitchell and wife Veryl of Neelyville, Mo., James L. Mitchell and wife Leora of Grand Black, Mich., and Dennis Mitchell and wife Sherry of Burton, Mich.; her brother Claude Parks Jr. of Malden, Mo., and sisters Ethel Wheat of Rector, Ark.; son-in-law Darrell Storms of Knoble, Ark., and daughter-in-law Thelma Mitchell of Howell, Mich. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Ms. Stull was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Dessie Parks; brother Jimmy Parks and sisters Martha  Parks, Josiphine Parks and Wanda Parks; sons, Roy Lee Mitchell and Benny Mitchell and daughters Margie Storms and Joyce Colter, and granddaughter Tammy Sue Storms.

Gary Neal Groves

Gary Neal Groves, 64, of Williamsville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Groves was born September 24, 1951 in Poplar Bluff.  He was a member of Apostolic Worship Center in Poplar Bluff.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a computer specialist at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.  He enjoyed spreading the word of God, riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

On September 23, 1979, he married Emma Groves in Williamsville.  She survives.

Other survivors include a son, James Cluckey and wife, Joyce and one sister, Rebecca A. Wood; his grandchildren, Legend Neal Groves, Tucker Groves, Rile Groves, Makaila Simmons and husband, Jacob, Brett and Brennon Cluckey; three great-grandchildren, Jakob, Xander, and Oakley Simmons, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Brandon Carl Neal Groves; his parents, Neal and Alta Mae (Gill) Groves; one sister, Sandra A. Eaton and brother, Greg V. Groves.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  The Rev. Don Andrews will officiate, assisted by Pastor Jerry Williams.  Interment will be held in Military Crossing, Williamsville, Mo.

Glenda L. Hager

Glenda L. Hager, 66, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 2, 2016 at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born December 30, 1949, in Manila, Ark., to the late Robert Hall and Ruth (Archer) Hall.  She was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed going to church and spending time with her grandchildren.  She retired from the Mo. Highway Patrol on January 1, 2012, after 18 years of service.

On July 10, 1970 she married Larry D. Hager.  He preceded her in death April 28, 1992.

Survivors include her children, Douglas R. Hager of Poplar Bluff, Melissa S. Hager and Mark Hager and wife, Amy, all of Park Hills, Mo., one sister, Linda S. Benton of Poplar Bluff; her grandchildren, Allyson Hager, Andrew Hager and Addyson Hager all of Park Hills, and Grace Ann Hager of Poplar Bluff; as well as one nephew, Stephen Benton, and wife, Dana and great-nephew, Phillip Benton of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 12 (noon) in the chapel.  Pastor Vernon Woolverton and Rev. Sue Hampton will officiate the service. Interment will be held in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

In Lieu  of flowers, the family suggest memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Cancer Research.

Rhonda Lynn Smith

Rhonda Lynn Smith, 56, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was born May 21, 1959, in St. Louis, Mo. and departed on April 3, 2016 at her home.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in High Ridge, Mo. and attended Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church locally. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson and her many nieces and nephews, visiting with family and friends, puzzles, reading and sewing.  She also enjoyed being at the river and rock collecting. She was quite the entertainer and loved to make people laugh.

On February 26, 1977, she married Bradley Dale Smith Sr. in St. Louis, Mo.  He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Carmen Lee Smith and Duranda Lynn Moss of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Patricia Jarvis of Ellsinore, Mo. and Ramona Willard of Fenton, Mo. and two brothers, Terry Jarvis of Piedmont, Mo. and John Jarvis, of Ellsinore; as well as one grandson, Jacob Lawrence McIntyre and many nieces and nephews and a number of friends she considered family.

Her parents, Roscoe Jarvis and Wilma (Reed) Jarvis and the love of her life, Randall Lee Moss also preceded her in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral services at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Prophetess C.L. Sharkey officiating.
