Charles Phillip Fanter

Charles Phillip Fanter, age 77, of Broseley, Mo., passed away December 30,2016 at the Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born on September 30, 1939 in Cook County Illinois to the late Fred and Mary Ann Fanter.  He  retired as a sheet metal construction worker.  He loved going to flea markets and attended Christian Family Fellowship Church in Poplar Bluff.

Surviving are six children, two stepchildren, one sister, one brother, and several grandchildren, as well as his close companion and caregiver, Mary Baugus.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin L. Jarvis

Melvin L. Jarvis, 41, of Ellsinore, Mo. passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Ellsinore, Missouri. He was born on October 25, 1975 in Unionville, Missouri to the late Ellis and Zella Jarvis.

Melvin was a Fire Fighter and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with wood and being with his family.

Melvin was married to Velva (Cox) Jarvis on June 3, 1998 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and she survives. Also surviving is his children; Kenneth Jarvis and Kristy Jarvis of the home, one sister; Molly Shelton, four brothers; Ellis Eugene Jarvis, Billy Jarvis, Francis Jarvis and Timothy Jarvis and two half brothers; James and David.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and it will be posted as soon as a time is set.

Joe Gulledge Sr.

Joe Gulledge Sr., 54, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Mark Twain Caring Center.

Mr. Gulledge was born August 18, 1962 in St. Louis, Mo.  He was an auto body mechanic and enjoyed restoring cars and hotrods. He also enjoyed outdoors, working in the yard and helping friends and family.

Survivors include his son, Joseph Michael Gulledge Jr. of Sikeston, Mo.; three sisters, Chris Emily, Michelle Harrison (Donald) and Yvonne Carl and a brother, Alvin L. Gulldege Jr.(Theresa) all of Poplar Bluff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Shelia Vaughn.

His father, Alvin L. Gulledge Sr. and mother, Irene (Rodgers) Gulledge preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by a graveside service and interment at 12 noon at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.  Donald Harrison will officiate.

Nancy Bach “Downey” Earley

Nancy Bach “Downey” Earley, 69, of Poplar Bluff,Mo. departed this life Monday December 12, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was a retired Family Nurse Practitioner. She was born July 12,1947 in Louisville, Ky, and formerly lived in Harviell.

She loved animals, spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, swimming, the outdoors, eating at Huddle House with her best friend Bev Ward. She was a member of Lifeline Church.  She was a veteran of the U.S.Navy having obtained the rank of L.T.J.G. She served in Vietnam as a Navy nurse.

Survivors are her chidren Christina ‘Tina’ LeAnn Earley Woodard and husband Mark,of Poplar Bluff, Larry Trenton Earley Jr. and wife Sherry , of Poplar Bluff, and Katherine “Kathy”Nellie Jean Earley Dicken and husband Chris of Dumas Arkansas,  two sisters , Susan Kiel and husband  Paul, and Melinda Sepmeyer and husband Richard, all of Georgia; one brother, Melvin Reed Downey and wife Stephanie of North Carolina;  her  grandchildren:  Brandon, Dalton, Rikki, Sara Lynn, Kala, Shelby, Hannah, Emma, John, Bailey,  Aiden “A.J.”Braxton, Bristal, Conner and Cassandra; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Gannon, Callie and Beau.

She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin Reed and Nellie Mae Downey.

Visitation will be from 6 till 8 p.m. Thursday Dec.15  in the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff Mo. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17,2016 in the J.C.Kirbey and Sons Funeral Home  Chapel of Bowling Green Ky. Pastor Debbie Cassinger officiating,  internment will be in the Fairview  Cemetery in Bowling Ky. Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville in charge of local arrangements.

Connie Crews

Connie Crews, 63, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away December 12, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Crews was born October 12, 1953 in Taylorville, Illinois.  She attended Kerns Chapel Church in Stringtown, Mo.  She enjoyed shooting guns, horses, caring for her animals and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Gerald Gatons Jr. (Rustina), Julie Doty (Andrew), Amanda Lawrence; her mother, Nila Williams and step-father, Tom Williams; a sister, Diane Ward; brothers, Gary, Kenny and Bryan Cole as well as nine grandchildren, Chelsie, Ashley, Lee, Phoenix, Quinten, Savannah, Taylor, Hunter and Alyssa.

A graveside service will be held at 10a.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Masonic Cemetery in Moweaqua, IL.

Michael Eugene Norman

Michael Eugene Norman, 63, of Wappapello, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

Mr. Norman was born February 16, 1953 in Kennett, Mo. to Eugene and Bonnie Norman.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  A former contractor, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On December 14, 1998 he married Jody (Ziegler) Norman.  She survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Jeannie Wlodarcik and husband, Brent of Poplar Bluff and one step-son, Charlie Ziegler of Wappapello; his father, Eugene Norman of Wappapello; two grandchildren, Chance Kendle and Maci Wlodarcik of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Rick Norman and wife, Nancy of Wappapello and two sisters, Patty Foust and husband, Dwight of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Linda Black and husband, Eddie of Memphis, Tn.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the  funeral service at noon with Pastor Doug Osborn officiating.  Mr. Norman will be laid to rest, with full military honors, in the Mo. Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Grayson Ray Markham

Grayson Ray Markham, 63, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Markham was born July 17, 1953 in Poplar Bluff, to the late George Robert Markham and Tommie (Stafford) Markham.

He was a carpenter and enjoyed going to the river, camping, boating and being with his grandchildren.  He was of the Southern Baptist faith.  Mr. Markham served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

On October 6, 1971 he married Dollie (Kirk) Markham in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Scott Markham, Carl Markham, Lacey McClintock and Jessica Deffendall; sisters  Nina Hampton, Betty Gallamore and JoEllen Bailey; brothers, Harry Markham, William “Bill” Markham, and Pete Markham; as well as his grandchildren, Thomas Markham, Trevor McClintock, Skyler McClintock, Dalton Markham, Macey McClintock, Austin Markham, Mila Deffendall, and Cassie Gholson; 3 great grandchildren, Noah, Josiah, Elizabeth.

Mr. Markham was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Dena Mitchell and Nellie Markham, and a brother, James Markham.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Greg Faughn officiating.  Burial will be held in Liberty Cemetery.

William C. “Buck” Meadors

William C. “Buck” Meadors, 86, of Doniphan,  passed away December 5, 2016 at the Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan, Mo.

Mr. Meadors was born July 11, 1930 in Success, AR to the late John “Red” Meadors and Pearl (Tillman) Meadors.

Mr. Meadors was a retired fork lift operator for Boeing Aircraft in St.  Louis, Mo.  After retiring in 1988, he moved back to Ripley County.  He enjoyed fishing. hunting, yard work and anything outside.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany.

In June of 1968 he married Mary Pratte in St. Louis, Mo.  She survives.  Also surviving is a daughter; Julie Ann Meadors of Doniphan, Mo; six sisters; Janet Shearn and husband Chris, Jennie Faye Royer of Doniphan, Linda Hinkle and husband Leon of Doniphan, Frieda Coon of Doniphan, Jetty Mathis and husband Lawrence of Fairdealing, and Louise Bruton and husband Larry of Naylor; one brother, Don Meadors  and wife Cris  of Doniphan; one grandson; Frank Meadors Curry of Doniphan.

Mr. Meadors was preceded in death by two sisters; Wilma Ward and Wanda Toye; one brother; Larry Meadors and parents John “Red” Meadors and Pearl Tillman Meadors.

Visitation will begin Thurs. December 8, 2016 at 10:30am in the chapel at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Neelyville.  The funeral will follow in the chapel at 12:00pm noon with Rev. Bill Meadors officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery near Doniphan, Mo.

Timmie Lee Stratton

Timmie Lee Stratton, 60, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born on June 16, 1956, in Broseley, Mo., to the late Fred and Beulah (Slaughter) Christian.  A self employed carpenter, he enjoyed fishing, going to flee markets, and playing pool.

He is survived by his brother, Kenny Stratton and wife, Shari; two sisters, Joan Brown and husband, Tom, Wanda Wilson and husband, Ralph; as well as his life partner, Karen Haldeman.

Visitation will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, December, 6, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at 1 pm, in the chapel, with Dr. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will take place in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
