Norma Barnes

Norma Barnes, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Westwood Hills Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Barnes was born February 18, 1941 in Fisk, Mo. She was a member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center and retired from the Poplar Bluff School system as a cook.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and being with her children and grandchildren. She was married to Curt Barnes in November 1958 in Poplar Bluff.  He preceded her in death in November 2009.

Her son Curtis Barnes (Pamela) survive, as well as son-in-law, William Lewis; grandchildren, Shane Barnes, Christal Chism, and James Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Trinity, Kitiara, William, Johnathon, Elizabeth, Audrey, Austin, James, Zoe, and Natalie; two sisters, Faye Wells and Carolyn Pennington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curt; her daughter, Gayla Lewis and her parents, Hugo Curry and Francis (Rose) Curry.

Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral service at 2:30 p.m., in the chapel, with Rev. Ted Elledge officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Ash Hill Cemetery.

Frances Elaine Hamilton

Frances Elaine Hamilton, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Oakdale Care Center.

Frances was born June 6, 1933 in Gideon, Mo. to Melvin and Millicent Gibson.  Both preceded her in death.  She was a member of South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church (where she taught Sunday school for many years), ADK, and Missouri Retired Teachers Assoc.  She taught school at Eugene Field for over 30 years completing 41 years in her career. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cooking for others.

On July 9, 1954 she married Bill Hamilton in St. Francis, Ark. He survives.

Her sons, Kent Hamilton (Preeti) and Craig Hamilton (Pam) also survive, as well as her grandchildren, Kristin Hamilton, Heather Arment, Ethan, Riley, Lauren, and Jacob Hamilton and 6 great-grandchildren.

One brother, Dennis Gibson also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 12 (noon) in the chapel with Rev. Royce Schanda and Rev. Michael Pope officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Lois Arlene Perryman

Lois Arlene Perryman, 77, of Ellsinore, Mo., passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in Poplar Bluff.

She was born April 24, 1939 in Port Angeles, Wa.  She was a member of Walton Chapel Church and had worked at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club as a cook.  She enjoyed puzzles, reading, working in her flowers and she loved hummingbirds.

On July 10, 1962 she married David Perryman in Sequim, Wa.  He preceded her in death September 4, 2004.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita Longhibler, Shelly Daniel (JD), and Patricia Wells; six sons, Carl Perryman Sr. (Cindy), Bruce Perryman, Kenneth Cox (Donna), David Cox, Gary Perryman (Sallie), and Roger Perryman (Marina); a brother, Larry Sommerville; as well as 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and her special dog, Prancer.

Her parents, Wiley and Adeline Sommerville also preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Gail Rose Colter

Gail Rose Colter, 68, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in the arms of her daughters, Karman Rose Lucas and Joann Larra Brand at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Gail was born May 18, 1948 in Billings, Montana to Thomas F. Levan and Dorothy J. (VanHoosier) Levan, who preceded her in death in 2009. On October 20, 1968 she married James Dale Colter, who preceded her in death May 1, 2014. She was also preceded by her brother, Troy Levan and a great niece, Lilly Borkhardt.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karman and Mike Lucas; son, Thomas Colter, and special daughter-in-law, Joann Brand, and step-children, Michelle (Tubby) Chapman and Jimmy Dale (Tara) Colter and beloved dog, Bella; as well as her grandchildren, Joshua (Linda) Powell, Brennan (Mikayla) Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Quinton, Spencer and Wyatt Colter, Samuel Brand, Hailey Colter-Rains and Gauge Colter; great-grandchildren, Jonathon Romans, Carter Lucas and Kohen Lucas (due to arrive in March).

Also surviving, her loving sisters, Sandra (Paul) Spain, Anita (Bob Happ, Charlotte (Lester) Donelson, and her brother, Roger (Dorinda) Levan and many nieces and nephews she adores.

Gail retired from Briggs and Stratton. She cherished her grandchildren and yearly “Grandma Camp” for the month of July, where she would take them on train rides, trips to ball games, amusement parks, zoos and many other things. Blueberry pancakes were her specialty as well as chocolate cake for breakfast.

She was a very special woman, loved by many and very active in her church, initially New Bethany and then Third Baptist until her illness.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 (noon), in the chapel, with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev. James Capps officiating. She will be laid to rest in Duley Cemetery.

Robert Allen “Sonny” Reed

Robert Allen “Sonny” Reed, 68, of Doniphan, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Sonny was born August 19, 1948 in Catron, Mo., son of the late Robert Edward Reed and Helen Marie (Whitaker) Reed.  He was a bus mechanic for the Doniphan R-1 School, from which he retired.  He greatly enjoyed handling race horses and watching westerns.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Dale Reed (Lorie) of Bernie, Mo. and Micheal Allen Reed of Campbell; two sisters, Brenda Kay Blurton (Jim) of Poplar Bluff and Patricia Sue Moman (Frank) of Doniphan; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Reed; his grandchildren, Kellie Renee Reed, Ryan Chandler Reed and a step-grandson, Bryan Christopher Condict; as well as 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Norma Reed and Joann (Reed) Whoberry; one brother, Ronald Norman Reed and his special companion, Judy Reed.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m., in the chapel, with Pastor Todd Taylor officiating.  He will be laid to rest in Memorial Gardens.

Jackie P. Dare

Jackie P. Dare, 64, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Jackie was born April 25, 1952 in Poplar Bluff, daughter of the late Harlen Russell and Dorothy (Davenport) Russell.  A homemaker, she enjoyed doing things with her grandkids.

On March 28, 1970 in Poplar Bluff, she married Terry Dare, who survives.

She is also survived by her daughter, Christy Hardin (Mike) and son, Wade Dare (Jenifer); two brothers, Jim Russell (Debra) and Bo Russell (Vickie); three grandchildren, Jonathan Hardin, Jeffry Hardin, and Ryan Dare, as well as one step-grandson, Brad Hooker and step-great-grandson, Jax Hooker.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Mo. State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Ron Fowler Officiating.

Josephine Elizabeth Chotrow

Josephine Elizabeth Chotrow, 49,  of Poplar Bluff, Mo., departed this life Saturday, January 14, 2017 at The Cedargate in Poplar Bluff.

She was born August 18, 1967, in Sikeston Mo. to the late Harry Russell and Mary (Hayse) Russell. She enjoyed reading,  spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of her home.

Surviving include her children, Richard Eugene Schaefer, Chrystal Washington, Amber Schaefer, and Angela Schaefer; one sister, Ruth Ann Schaefer; her grandchildren, Issacc Washington, Blake, Emily Alvarado, Starrlett, Richard William, Abby, and Zayden.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harry Leroy Russell Jr.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Claude Gene Hill

Claude Gene Hill, 79, of Farmington, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, departed this life on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Farmington Presbyterian Manor in Farmington.

Claude was born November 3, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Marion Thelma (Hill) Adams. He was a truck driver and enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a charter member of the Order of Eagles 3730 in Poplar Bluff and a past president of the Eagles.

On April 23, 1979 he married Karen (McCollum) Hill, in Poplar Bluff, she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Kelly Gene Hill (Stephanie) and Beth Rowland (Fred) and their mother, Sandra Hill, as well as  his son, Michael Hill and one sister, Joyce Gaye Cochran.

He was preceeded in death by his mother and one sister, Phyllis Adams.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. (noon) Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff,  followed by a GRAVESIDE FUNERAL at 1:30 p.m. at the Fairdealing Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo., with Larry Evans officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Presbyterian Manor 500 Cayce Street, Farmington, Mo. 63640.

Thelma Payne

Thelma Payne, 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Payne was born May 20, 1932 in Acorn, Mo. She was a member of Liberty Church and enjoyed embroidery and planting flowers.

Survivors include a son, Larry Payne and daughter, Alessa Payne; two sisters, Violet Brashear and Wilma Smith (Richard); a grandson, Benny Cook; nieces, Violet Paynter (Luther), and Debbie Foster (Phil); great-nieces, Victoria Drake and daughter, Emma Drake; great-nephew, John Griffith; and a special friend, Michael Willcut.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Payne; her parents, Ben Payne and Cora (Welty) Payne, as well as a sister, Kathleen Payne.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The Rev. Sue Hampton will officiate.  She will be laid to rest in the Cochran Cemetery.

Charles Dewayne Brooks Jr.

Charlie Brooks Jr., 36, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his home.

He was born January 7, 1981 in Poplar Bluff. On November 22, 2004 he married Angela Marie Brooks.  She preceded him in death February 22, 2013.

He is survived by his father, Charles Brooks Sr.; his mother, Donna (Grace ) Short and step-father, Jesse Short; children, Josef Bailey and Carley Brooks; step-grandparents, Jessie and Levear Short; a sister, Wenonnah Grace and sister-in-law, Jonia Davis; one brother, Doyle Brooks and sister-in-law, Dana Brooks, as well as brother-in-law, Brandon Metz and two aunts, Carol Wilson and Dee Brooks.

He is also preceded in death by a son, Harley Brooks and grandparents, Doyle Switzer, Veda Switzer and Marie Grace.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church, 817 Arthur Street, with the Rev. Michael Pope and Rev. Steven Winberry officiating.
