James “Jay” Averhart Jr.

James “Jay” Averhart Jr., 71, of Naylor, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Averhart was born Jan. 23, 1946, in Bay, Ark. He worked as an auto mechanic and enjoyed squirrel hunting and training squirrel dogs, cutting grass, and visiting at the Naylor Quick Connection. He was a member of  the Pentecostal Church in Success, Ark. and a National Guard veteran.

On Oct. 8, 1971, he married Sharon Yarbrough. She survives.

Also surviving a son, Dustin Averhart of St. Clair, Mo.; five sisters, Chris Young of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Brenda Lepold of Naylor, Debbie Hester and Sarah Schinnerer of Gulf Port, Miss., and Mary Durant of the state of Washington; one brother, Bill Averhart of Long Beach, Miss.; and a grandson, Cody Averhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Averhart Sr. in 1971 and Ollie L. Thomas Averhart in 1989; one sister, Pansy Landreth, and one brother, Gene Averhart.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Richard Mahan officiating. Burial will be in Gum Cemetery near Naylor.

Hardy Barker Jr.

Hardy Barker Jr., 85, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away January 26, 2017 in the John J. Pershing V.A Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was born September 14, 1931 at Advance, Missouri to the late Hardy Barker Sr. and Rhoda Hendrickson Barker
He was married to Thelma Colleen Barker and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2008. He then married Dessie Allen Wilson on September 14, 2008. She survives.Also surviving; son-in-law, Jack Rodgers of St. Louis, Missouri. Two sisters; Evelene Nesbit of Doniphan, Missouri and Gladys Fann of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. One brother; Homer Leslie Barker of St. Clair, Missouri. Two grandchildren; Timothy Rodgers of St. Louis, Missouri and Shawn Rodgers of Lovettsville, Virginia. two great grandchildren; Jack S. and Jeremy Rodgers both Of Lovettsville, Virginia. He is also survived by his step children; Karen Betz, Bryan Wilson, Wayne Wilson and Robert all of Val Paraiso, Indiana and Lori Windsor of Alto, Michigan. Twelve step Grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren also survive

He is also preceded in death by one daughter; Anita Mae Rodgers, one sister; Ethel Fredrick and two brothers, Clyde Barker and Elvis Y. Barker. And one step daughter; Cyndy Powell. He had served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW at Success, Arkansas. He enjoyed fishing, farming, cows and hunting.

Visitation for Mr. Barker will be Tues January 31, 2017 at 10:00 am with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. Interment will be in the Syclone Cemetery at Doniphan, Missouri with Pastor Truman Chatman and Pastor Justin Knight officiating.

Norma Barnes

Norma Barnes, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Westwood Hills Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Barnes was born February 18, 1941 in Fisk, Mo. She was a member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center and retired from the Poplar Bluff School system as a cook.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and being with her children and grandchildren. She was married to Curt Barnes in November 1958 in Poplar Bluff.  He preceded her in death in November 2009.

Her son Curtis Barnes (Pamela) survive, as well as son-in-law, William Lewis; grandchildren, Shane Barnes, Christal Chism, and James Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Trinity, Kitiara, William, Johnathon, Elizabeth, Audrey, Austin, James, Zoe, and Natalie; two sisters, Faye Wells and Carolyn Pennington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curt; her daughter, Gayla Lewis and her parents, Hugo Curry and Francis (Rose) Curry.

Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral service at 2:30 p.m., in the chapel, with Rev. Ted Elledge officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Ash Hill Cemetery.

Betty Yandell

Betty Jean Yandell, 72, of Corning, Arkansas, passed away January 21, 2017 at her residence. She was born May 12, 1989 at Boydsville, Arkansas to the late Earnest Howell and Revell Goulsby Howell.

On October 4, 1974 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri She was married to Euris Jackson Yandell. he preceded her in death on May 18, 1992.

She is survived by; her children,  Bennetta Stewart,William Yandell and Crystal, Jimmy Yandell and Brenda, Earnest Yandell and Freddee, Rick Yandell and Katherine, Derinda Sheppard and Gary, Linda Harm0n and Vernon, Ed James and Freda, Sherry Preslar and Vicki Gardner and Stan. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and other family members.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, her parents as well s one granddaughter April Yandell, two sisters; Mary Smith and Marritha McKinney, three brothers Benny Howell, Leroy Howell, and J.W. Howell.

She was retired from Darlings and enjoyed camping, fishing, music and yard sales.

Visitation for Mrs. Yandell will be Friday January 27, 2017 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel Inc. of Neelyville, Missouri starting at 11:00 am with the funeral starting at 12 pm. . burial will be in the Corning Cemetery in Corning, Arkansas with Rev. Marty Bryant officiating.

Frances Elaine Hamilton

Frances Elaine Hamilton, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Oakdale Care Center.

Frances was born June 6, 1933 in Gideon, Mo. to Melvin and Millicent Gibson.  Both preceded her in death.  She was a member of South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church (where she taught Sunday school for many years), ADK, and Missouri Retired Teachers Assoc.  She taught school at Eugene Field for over 30 years completing 41 years in her career. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cooking for others.

On July 9, 1954 she married Bill Hamilton in St. Francis, Ark. He survives.

Her sons, Kent Hamilton (Preeti) and Craig Hamilton (Pam) also survive, as well as her grandchildren, Kristin Hamilton, Heather Arment, Ethan, Riley, Lauren, and Jacob Hamilton and 6 great-grandchildren.

One brother, Dennis Gibson also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 12 (noon) in the chapel with Rev. Royce Schanda and Rev. Michael Pope officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Lois Arlene Perryman

Lois Arlene Perryman, 77, of Ellsinore, Mo., passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in Poplar Bluff.

She was born April 24, 1939 in Port Angeles, Wa.  She was a member of Walton Chapel Church and had worked at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club as a cook.  She enjoyed puzzles, reading, working in her flowers and she loved hummingbirds.

On July 10, 1962 she married David Perryman in Sequim, Wa.  He preceded her in death September 4, 2004.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita Longhibler, Shelly Daniel (JD), and Patricia Wells; six sons, Carl Perryman Sr. (Cindy), Bruce Perryman, Kenneth Cox (Donna), David Cox, Gary Perryman (Sallie), and Roger Perryman (Marina); a brother, Larry Sommerville; as well as 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and her special dog, Prancer.

Her parents, Wiley and Adeline Sommerville also preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Gail Rose Colter

Gail Rose Colter, 68, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in the arms of her daughters, Karman Rose Lucas and Joann Larra Brand at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Gail was born May 18, 1948 in Billings, Montana to Thomas F. Levan and Dorothy J. (VanHoosier) Levan, who preceded her in death in 2009. On October 20, 1968 she married James Dale Colter, who preceded her in death May 1, 2014. She was also preceded by her brother, Troy Levan and a great niece, Lilly Borkhardt.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karman and Mike Lucas; son, Thomas Colter, and special daughter-in-law, Joann Brand, and step-children, Michelle (Tubby) Chapman and Jimmy Dale (Tara) Colter and beloved dog, Bella; as well as her grandchildren, Joshua (Linda) Powell, Brennan (Mikayla) Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Quinton, Spencer and Wyatt Colter, Samuel Brand, Hailey Colter-Rains and Gauge Colter; great-grandchildren, Jonathon Romans, Carter Lucas and Kohen Lucas (due to arrive in March).

Also surviving, her loving sisters, Sandra (Paul) Spain, Anita (Bob Happ, Charlotte (Lester) Donelson, and her brother, Roger (Dorinda) Levan and many nieces and nephews she adores.

Gail retired from Briggs and Stratton. She cherished her grandchildren and yearly “Grandma Camp” for the month of July, where she would take them on train rides, trips to ball games, amusement parks, zoos and many other things. Blueberry pancakes were her specialty as well as chocolate cake for breakfast.

She was a very special woman, loved by many and very active in her church, initially New Bethany and then Third Baptist until her illness.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 (noon), in the chapel, with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev. James Capps officiating. She will be laid to rest in Duley Cemetery.

Robert Allen “Sonny” Reed

Robert Allen “Sonny” Reed, 68, of Doniphan, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Sonny was born August 19, 1948 in Catron, Mo., son of the late Robert Edward Reed and Helen Marie (Whitaker) Reed.  He was a bus mechanic for the Doniphan R-1 School, from which he retired.  He greatly enjoyed handling race horses and watching westerns.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Dale Reed (Lorie) of Bernie, Mo. and Micheal Allen Reed of Campbell; two sisters, Brenda Kay Blurton (Jim) of Poplar Bluff and Patricia Sue Moman (Frank) of Doniphan; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Reed; his grandchildren, Kellie Renee Reed, Ryan Chandler Reed and a step-grandson, Bryan Christopher Condict; as well as 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Norma Reed and Joann (Reed) Whoberry; one brother, Ronald Norman Reed and his special companion, Judy Reed.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m., in the chapel, with Pastor Todd Taylor officiating.  He will be laid to rest in Memorial Gardens.

Claudetta Littrell

Claudetta Irene Littrell, 66, of Doniphan passed away on Jan. 21, 2017 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Littrell was born on Aug. 30, 1950 in Doniphan, Mo. She was retired from S.M.T.S where she worked as a transportation driver for 24 years. She loved reading, being outdoors, camping, church, having friends and family over and anything to do with family. She was a member of the West Point Pentecostal Church where over the years, was the Sunday School Secretary, and previous youth leader, joy group leader and cook for W.P.C.A.

On March 14, 1969, Claudetta married Elmer Littrell Sr. in Doniphan, Mo. He Survives.

Also surviving are her children, Elmer Littrell Jr. and wife Diane, Linette Neeley and husband Brian; mother, Christine Foster; sister, Romona Larson and husband James; brothers, Dalton March and wife Deborah, Lynn March and wife Becky; and sis-in-law, Becky Courtney; Grandchildren, Paige, Robbie, Taylor, Wyatt, Alex, Skilar, Caleb, Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Sutton and Braxton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam March; step-dad, Kenny Foster; one sister, Roseann March; and one brother, Alden March.

Visitation will take place on Tues. Jan. 24, 2017 from 5-8p.m. at the West Point Pentecostal Church. Funeral will be on Wed., Jan. 25, 2017 at 11:00a.m. at the church with Bro. Chuck Carr and Bro. Charles Carr officiating. Burial will be held at the Amity Cemetery in Doniphan, Mo.

Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Yoshiyah York

Yoshiyah York, 9, of Doniphan, Missouri departed this life on January 20, 2017 at his home.  He was born February 12, 2007 at Mamoth Spring, Arkansas.

He is survived by his parents, Kenny and Renee Smith of Doniphan, Missouri; his sisters and brothers, Madelyne, Abbe, Audree, Lucas, Eliyah, Kenny, Jasmina, and Isaiah.

Yoshyah enjoyed wood working projects, drawing, riding his bike, playing baseball, and praying for people.

Visitation for Yoshiyah will be Thursday, January 26, 2017, staring at 9 am, in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Missouri with music starting at 11:00 am. Kenny and Renee Smith will be in charge of Services.
