Oscar Ellis

Oscar Ellis, 78, of Neelyville, Missouri, passed away June 29, 2017 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  He was born, March 5, 1939 at Neelyville, Missouri to the late Albert Ellis Sr and Katie Conley Ellis.

He is survived by four sisters; Julia Francis Young of Detroit, Michigan,  Mary Alice Holton of Harvey, Illinois, Laura McCain Of Neelyville, Missouri,  Eddie Marie Mabry Of South Holland, Illinois and Lillian Terry Of Gary, Indiana. Numerous Nieces and Nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one sister; Johnetta Green and three brothers;  Albert Ellis Jr. , Charley Ellis and Loyd Ellis.

He was a member of the Conley Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Neelyville, Missouri, and a farmer. He enjoyed gardening, lawn work and He also took care of is mother (Katie Conley Ellis) till her death.

visitation for Mr. Ellis will be Thursday July 6, 2017 starting at 10:00 a,m, with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Inc. of Neelyville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Conley Grove Cemetery in Neelyville, Missouri.

Emma Jean Mitchell ( Little)

Emma Jean Mitchell (Little) , 68, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Emma was born October 19, 1948 in Webb, Mississippi to Beatrice Little and the late William “Bud” Little.

After working at Lucy Lee Hospital for fourteen years, Emma retired as a CNA.  Before becoming a homemaker with Independent Living Center, she enjoyed being a cook and portraying great fun to customers on a daily basis at County Mart Grocery Store.  Emma loved playing Bingo and spending time with friends and family.  Emma’s passion was having a green thumb, being able to grow ANYTHING.

Emma leaves her precious memories and moments of laughter to her 3 sons.  Rickey Bryant (Lois) of Kansas City, MO, Byron Bryant (Amber) and Patrick Bryant (Angel) both of Poplar Bluff.  Also left to treasure Emma’s memories is her loving mother, Beatrice Little of St. Louis and twelve sisters and brothers:  Alvin Ray Snerling (Lisa), Leon Little (Sue), George Little (Muriel), Lee Little (Shantele), all of St. Louis.  Elizabeth Collins (Robert) Lee Summit, MO, Kenneth Little and Evaline Lumpkin, both of Kansas City, MO, Elaine Dodson (Mark) Blue Springs, MO, Tim Little, Grandview, MO, Malissa Woodberry, Leawood, MO, Debra Riley (Robert), Lawton, OK and Charles Little (Janette) of Poplar Bluff.  Emma also leaves her sweet memories to Thurston Mitchell, surrogate father to her 3 sons, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Emma was preceded in death by a daughter; Falisia Bryant, her father; William “Bud” Little and 2 brothers; Eric Little and Robert Little.

Visitation will be 12pm Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Lively Stone Church of God 522 Relief Street.  The celebration of life service will begin at 1pm.

Betty Cullum

Betty Sue Cullum, 69, of Zalma, Mo., passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Puxico Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Cullum was born on Aug. 12, 1948 in Parma, Mo. She worked at a shoe factory for Missouri Industries in Dexter, Mo., and enjoyed Horseback riding, country music, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In January of 1965, Betty married James Richard Cullum. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1997.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, James and Vernie McCarthy; 2 step-children, Sheila Kay Mims and Christina Cullum; and 1 brother, James “Bub” William McCarthy.

Betty is survived by her children, Richard Alvis Cullum of Zalma, MO., Julia Lavell Stroup & husband Kenneth of Zalma, MO., Kaye Brundage of N.C.; 1 sister, Janie Bates of Wappapello, Mo.; 3 brothers, James Edward McCarthy, Lynn McCarthy, both of Mountain View, Mo., Jeffery Dan McCarthy of Malden, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will take place on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Donnie Fowler officiating. Burial will take place at Rosewood Cemetery in Malden, Mo.

Freddie Joe Pyle

Freddie Joe Pyle, 60, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away June 20, 2017 in the NEA Baptist Hospital of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born September 20, 1956 at Corning, Arkansas to the late Hermann Pyle and Nadine Wilson Pyle.

On March 20, 1975 at Mo ark, Arkansas He was married to Debbie Bland. She survives.

Also surviving; One daughter Shona Potts and husband Dan of Brookland, Arkansas and one son; Joey Pyle of Paragould, Arkansas. Three grandchildren; Cory, Kira and Kaley Potts.  One sister; Shirley Hopkins of Doniphan, Missouri and two brothers; Jimmy Pyle of Doniphan, Missouri and Sammy Pyle of Fairdealing, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two sisters; Kathy Elston and Charlotte Dean Wilson.

Freddie had been a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family as well as watching old westerns.

Visitation for Freddie will be Friday night June 23, 2017 starting at 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Inc. of Neelyville, Missouri. The funeral will Saturday June 24, 2017  starting at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Neelyville. Burial will be in the Maynard Cemetery at Maynard, Arkansas following services with Donnie Fowler officiating.

Michael Fielder

Neelyville, Mo. – Michael V. Fielder, 55, of Doniphan, Mo., passed away on June 17, 2017.

Mr. Fielder was born on May 30, 1962 in Marmaduke, AR. He was self employed, working as a painter/artist and was a member of the West Point United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed art, fishing, hunting, woodworking and working on mowers and cars.

On May 28, 1988 he married Pamela Gentry in Doniphan, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Elizabeth Fielder of Doniphan, MO. Michael Fielder & wife Jennifer of Compton, Il; 3 sisters, Renay Farmer of Marmaduke, AR., Beverly Bearden & husband Charles of Boydsville, AR., Karen Tracy & husband John of Sikeston, Mo.; Father-in-law, Delno Gentry; mother-in-law, Myrtle Gentry; 1 sister-in-law, Brenda Tubbs; 3 brother-in-law, Dale, Allen, and Bobby Gentry; 2 grandchildren, Mason and Mackenzie; as well as 10 nephews and 8 nieces.

Services will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at West Point United Pentecostal Church in Doniphan, Mo. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Chuck Carr and Pastor Charles Yeakel will be officiating. Burial will take place at Amity Cemetery in Doniphan.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo.

Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Blankenship

Ruby Blankenship, 90, of Poplar Bluff passed away June 11, 2017 at The Cedar Gate Nursing Home.  Mrs. Blankenship was born May 30, 1927 in Rombaur, MO, to the late Rufus and Julia Badgett.

She was a homemaker.  On January 13, 1959 she was married to A C Blankenship.  He preceded her in death June 15, 1979.

Mrs. Blankenship is survived by children: Gary Wayne Merriman and friend Meldrid Richardson, Ilene Ward, Freida McKlintic; Sisters: Pearl Gulledge, Linda Clark, Arlene Turner and Darlene Paul; brothers: Orville Badgett; grandchildren: Steve Frey, Nick McKlintic, Kathy Frey, Gary Merriman Jr.; great-grandchildren: Tyler McKlintic, Addison Lightner, Brianna Merriman and Tyson Frey.

Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by parents, husband, two sons-in-laws: Larry Ward and Larry McKlintic

Visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will be 11am Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the funeral home chapel with Ron Fowler officiating.  Burial will be in Ash Hill Cemetery.

Albert Andrews Jr. “Buck”

Albert “Buck” Andrews was born July 4, 1940 and passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 76, peacefully in his home.  He was a resident of Poplar Bluff for most of his life.

Mr. Andrews married Reva C. Sprague in the late winter of 958, she survives along with their three children: Albert (Marla) Andrews, Deborah (Gary) Williams and James (Sue) Andrews.   Also surviving are his siblings: Donald Andrews, Sharon Marchbanks, and Karen Stout.  He had a special love for his family.  He was an incredible Papa to his seven grandchildren: Michael Andrews, Christopher Andrews, Justin Andrews, Carissa Nagell, Gary Lynn Williams, Heather Andrews and Danny Andrews.  He shared a special bond with his oldest grandson Michael Andrews who so lovingly refers to him as his best friend.  Papa Buck loved his twelve great-grandchildren and I don’t think he could have been more proud of them.

Mr. Andrews served his country with great pride.  He was involved in the Cuban Crisis, and remained a proud Veteran up to the day of his passing.

He was the sweetest, cranky old man you could have ever known, with an infectious laugh.  He enjoyed spending time chatting about the news, politics, and loved hearing any funny story or joke you had to tell him.  He was loved greatly and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will begin at 1pm Tuesday, June 13 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at 2pm with the Rev. Gary Williams and Shane Nagell officiating.  Burial will follow with full military rites in Old Oak Hill Cemetery.

Anna Lorene Miller

Anna Lorene Miller, 57, of Advance, Mo. passed away on Sun. June 11, 2017 at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.

Mrs. Miller was born on Aug. 26, 1959 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed singing, baking, sewing and reading. She was a member of the Zalma General Baptist Church.

On Sept. 1, 1978, she married Noel Miller Jr. at the Pilgrims Rest Church in Fairdealing. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, daughter, Karina Stone and husband Jason, and son, Dutch Miller all of Advance, Mo.; parents, William “Bill” and Sue Franklin of Harviell, Mo.; 2 sisters, Anita Norman of Corning, Ark., Amy Lane of Oran, Mo.; 2 brothers, Bill Franklin of Las Cruces, NM., Andy Franklin of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Hunter Miller of Cape Girardeau and Kolby Stone of Advance; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Mo., on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5-8p.m.

A second visitation will take place on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville from 11:00 – 1:00. A graveside service will follow with Bro. Dan Overton officiating. Burial will take place at Naylor Memorial Cemetery.

Edward (Eddie) Lee James

Edward Lee James, 66, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away in Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center June 4, 2017. He was born July 11, 1950, in Corning, Arkansas to the late Everett James and Eva Brooks  James. on July 28, 2001 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri he was married to Freda Joyce cox. she survives.

Also surviving  are his children; Nicole Moore and husband Joshua of Galesburg, Illinois, Jennifer Radford and husband Steven of Harviell, Missouri, sstep children; Larry Payne and Cheryl of Ellsinore, Mo, Lori Kovach and Victor of Neelyville, Missouri and Ronnie Wills of Wappapello, Missouri. Sisters; Sherry Preslar, ,  Derinda Sheppard  both of Harviell, Missouri Vickie Gardner of Neelyville, Missouri, Bennetta Phillips of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Carol Ann Crown of Rockford, Illinois, Jeanie DiGuiseppi of Winnebago, Illinois and Linda Sue Harmon. Brothers William Yandell, Rick Yandell and Jimmy Yandell all of Corning, Arkansas, Tim James, Jim James both of Rockford, Illinois,. Jack Yandell, of Naylor, Missouri and Jeff Peters of Houston, Texas and Danny Peters of Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his first wife Mary James.

He had served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era  he enjoyed Pipes, trains and custom cars.

Visitation for Mr. James will be Monday June 12, 2017 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Inc. of Neelyville, Missouri, starting at 2:oo p.m. until funeral  service time at 3:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Brooks Cemetery following service.

Jerry “Leroy” Colter

Jerry “Leroy” Colter, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born May 28, 1942 in Corning, Ark.  He married Marcell Jean (Passley) Colter, January 13, 1989 in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Mr. Colter served in the U.S. Army for 3 years before serving in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Force Policeman in Korea.  He was a typesetter, retiring from Bluff City Printers.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, spending time with his family and friends, telling stories and writing poetry.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Leroy always had a kind heart and a listening ear.  He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Other survivors include his children, Connie Jackson, Lora Foust (Gary), and Mary Jeanette Maxwell; his mother, Grace (Remmenga) Colter; sisters, Wilma Clark, Judy Jett (Jerry), Marilyn Seely (Gene), Shirley Parkin Moore (Ron), and Glenda Evans; one brother, James R. “Jim”  Colter; as well as his grandchildren, Justin Foust (Julia), Logan Foust, Kate Foust, and Jessica Foust; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Hopkins and Vivian Foust and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Bud” Colter; his brothers, Jackie Colter and Kenneth Dale Colter; brothers-in-law, Don Clark, Jim Evans, Jerry Parkin, Kenny Brewer and Gary Nicholson; and special friend, Levon Bryson.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by the funeral service at noon.  The Rev. Bill Orr will officiate with special words by Gary Foust.  He will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with military rites.
