Emma Jean Mitchell ( Little)

Emma Jean Mitchell (Little) , 68, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Emma was born October 19, 1948 in Webb, Mississippi to Beatrice Little and the late William “Bud” Little.

After working at Lucy Lee Hospital for fourteen years, Emma retired as a CNA.  Before becoming a homemaker with Independent Living Center, she enjoyed being a cook and portraying great fun to customers on a daily basis at County Mart Grocery Store.  Emma loved playing Bingo and spending time with friends and family.  Emma’s passion was having a green thumb, being able to grow ANYTHING.

Emma leaves her precious memories and moments of laughter to her 3 sons.  Rickey Bryant (Lois) of Kansas City, MO, Byron Bryant (Amber) and Patrick Bryant (Angel) both of Poplar Bluff.  Also left to treasure Emma’s memories is her loving mother, Beatrice Little of St. Louis and twelve sisters and brothers:  Alvin Ray Snerling (Lisa), Leon Little (Sue), George Little (Muriel), Lee Little (Shantele), all of St. Louis.  Elizabeth Collins (Robert) Lee Summit, MO, Kenneth Little and Evaline Lumpkin, both of Kansas City, MO, Elaine Dodson (Mark) Blue Springs, MO, Tim Little, Grandview, MO, Malissa Woodberry, Leawood, MO, Debra Riley (Robert), Lawton, OK and Charles Little (Janette) of Poplar Bluff.  Emma also leaves her sweet memories to Thurston Mitchell, surrogate father to her 3 sons, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Emma was preceded in death by a daughter; Falisia Bryant, her father; William “Bud” Little and 2 brothers; Eric Little and Robert Little.

Visitation will be 12pm Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Lively Stone Church of God 522 Relief Street.  The celebration of life service will begin at 1pm.

Ruby Blankenship

Ruby Blankenship, 90, of Poplar Bluff passed away June 11, 2017 at The Cedar Gate Nursing Home.  Mrs. Blankenship was born May 30, 1927 in Rombaur, MO, to the late Rufus and Julia Badgett.

She was a homemaker.  On January 13, 1959 she was married to A C Blankenship.  He preceded her in death June 15, 1979.

Mrs. Blankenship is survived by children: Gary Wayne Merriman and friend Meldrid Richardson, Ilene Ward, Freida McKlintic; Sisters: Pearl Gulledge, Linda Clark, Arlene Turner and Darlene Paul; brothers: Orville Badgett; grandchildren: Steve Frey, Nick McKlintic, Kathy Frey, Gary Merriman Jr.; great-grandchildren: Tyler McKlintic, Addison Lightner, Brianna Merriman and Tyson Frey.

Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by parents, husband, two sons-in-laws: Larry Ward and Larry McKlintic

Visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will be 11am Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the funeral home chapel with Ron Fowler officiating.  Burial will be in Ash Hill Cemetery.

Albert Andrews Jr. “Buck”

Albert “Buck” Andrews was born July 4, 1940 and passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 76, peacefully in his home.  He was a resident of Poplar Bluff for most of his life.

Mr. Andrews married Reva C. Sprague in the late winter of 958, she survives along with their three children: Albert (Marla) Andrews, Deborah (Gary) Williams and James (Sue) Andrews.   Also surviving are his siblings: Donald Andrews, Sharon Marchbanks, and Karen Stout.  He had a special love for his family.  He was an incredible Papa to his seven grandchildren: Michael Andrews, Christopher Andrews, Justin Andrews, Carissa Nagell, Gary Lynn Williams, Heather Andrews and Danny Andrews.  He shared a special bond with his oldest grandson Michael Andrews who so lovingly refers to him as his best friend.  Papa Buck loved his twelve great-grandchildren and I don’t think he could have been more proud of them.

Mr. Andrews served his country with great pride.  He was involved in the Cuban Crisis, and remained a proud Veteran up to the day of his passing.

He was the sweetest, cranky old man you could have ever known, with an infectious laugh.  He enjoyed spending time chatting about the news, politics, and loved hearing any funny story or joke you had to tell him.  He was loved greatly and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will begin at 1pm Tuesday, June 13 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at 2pm with the Rev. Gary Williams and Shane Nagell officiating.  Burial will follow with full military rites in Old Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jerry “Leroy” Colter

Jerry “Leroy” Colter, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born May 28, 1942 in Corning, Ark.  He married Marcell Jean (Passley) Colter, January 13, 1989 in Poplar Bluff.  She survives.

Mr. Colter served in the U.S. Army for 3 years before serving in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Force Policeman in Korea.  He was a typesetter, retiring from Bluff City Printers.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, spending time with his family and friends, telling stories and writing poetry.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Leroy always had a kind heart and a listening ear.  He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Other survivors include his children, Connie Jackson, Lora Foust (Gary), and Mary Jeanette Maxwell; his mother, Grace (Remmenga) Colter; sisters, Wilma Clark, Judy Jett (Jerry), Marilyn Seely (Gene), Shirley Parkin Moore (Ron), and Glenda Evans; one brother, James R. “Jim”  Colter; as well as his grandchildren, Justin Foust (Julia), Logan Foust, Kate Foust, and Jessica Foust; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Hopkins and Vivian Foust and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Bud” Colter; his brothers, Jackie Colter and Kenneth Dale Colter; brothers-in-law, Don Clark, Jim Evans, Jerry Parkin, Kenny Brewer and Gary Nicholson; and special friend, Levon Bryson.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by the funeral service at noon.  The Rev. Bill Orr will officiate with special words by Gary Foust.  He will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with military rites.

Margaret Ann Laughlin

Margaret Ann Laughlin, 57, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at The Cedar Gate.

Mrs. Laughlin was born February 17, 1960 in Advance, Mo.   She was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed collection jewelry.  In 1983 she married Jeff Laughlin in Puxico.  He preceded her in death January 15, 2006.

Survivors include her children, Julie Ann Laughlin and Vernon Laughlin; a granddaughter, Gracie Ann Laughlin and brother, Vernon Huff.

Her parents, Vernon George Huff and Luella (Eason) Huff preceded her in death, as well as her sisters, Shirley Mace, Patricia Huff and June Huff.

No services are planned at this time.  Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff in charge of arrangements.

William John Dougherty Jr.

William John “Will” Dougherty, Jr., 50, of Mill Spring, Mo., passed on to his heavenly reward Friday, June 2, 2017 in Belleville, Illinois.

Will was born July 28, 1966 in St. Charles, Mo., to William John Sr. and Nancy Lois Dougherty. He married the love of his life, Lisa Faye Bailey, on August 9, 1986. They made their home near Williamsville where they raised their children, William John III (Ciera), April Leslie (Frank Bondi), Sunflower Joy, Gabrielle Faith, and Lisa Melody. He had one granddaughter, Bella Nicole Bondi.

Will retired from Poplar Bluff Regional Office after 29 years. He could play any instrument he touched (bass, drums, harmonica, guitar, fiddle, etc.). In 1991, he founded WLD Recording Studio. He was an Apostolic Minister, always about the work of God, ministering to God’s people in music and preaching, and was Assistant Pastor over several different congregations, and finally as pastor-elect of New Life Apostolic Tabernacle.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, BBQ’s, working on the family farm, fishing, and model railroading. He was a loving, funny, amazing husband, daddy, grandpa, and son who will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at New Life Apostolic Tabernacle, 603 W. Victor St. in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, with Evangelist Bobby Frankens officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Chapel Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.

Sandra Faye Melton

Sandra Faye Melton, 55, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

Sandra was born July 26, 1961 in St. Louis, Mo.  She was a member of Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church and had previously lived in Ripley County.

Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Charlene Melton; her children, Mark Vollet (Jennifer), Jeremy Vollet and Melinda McMurray; two sisters, Carol Harris and Regina Gullett; as well as 8 grandchildren, Faith Vollet, Dustany Dillion, Tyler Dillion, JayLynn Vollet, Danielle, Desiree, Joseph and Jazlynn Croy.

A memorial visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service. Bro. Troy Sisk will officiate.

Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.
