Myrtle Marie Book

Myrtle Marie Book, 96, of Wappapello, Missouri passed away July 14, 2017 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. she was born September 24, 1920 to the late L.W. Foster and Bessie Zelma Corder Foster.

She had been married to Quincy Book, who preceded her in death.

.She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers; Cecil Foster, Lonnie Woodrow Foster and Virgil Foster. Also Six sisters preceded, Edith, Cynthia, Jewell, Fancy, Nadine, and Virginia Lee.

She enjoyed sewing and had been a self-employed  hairdresser and  beauty shop owner. She was of the Eastern Star where she received her 50 years pin.

Visitation will be starting at 10:00 am Tuesday July 18, 2017 in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. we will be leaving at 11:00 am to the Piggott Cemetery at Piggott, Arkansas for a 12:30 burial.

Wilma Genevia Chatman Hillis

Wilma Genevia Chatman Hillis 82, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday July 13, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Her parents were Rev. Roscoe and Maud Edith Chatman and she was one of 13 children. She married Cecil Eugene Hillis on Jan 13, 1952.

She was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, received Masters Degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Doctorate Degree from Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, GA. Mrs. Hillis taught school in Butler and East Carter Counties and ended her career in education with the Missouri Dept. Of Corrections.

She is survived by her children; Lawrence Eugene Hillis and wife, Janet, of Poplar Bluff, Gracie Ann Holford and husband, Richard of Alamogordo, N.M., Teddy Mack Hillis and wife Cheryl of Noble, Okla., ans Nancy June Dunivan and husband, Chris, of Poplar Bluff; three sisters Alma Hughes, Pansy Parks, and Anna Hedrick; four brothers; Chester Chatman, Truman, Clyde, and Lawrence Chatman; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Cecil Hillis; her parents, Rev. Roscoe and Maud Edith Chatman; three brothers; Harmon Chatman, William Chatman, and Herschel Chatman; and two sisters; Thelma Smody and Velma Hughes.

Visitation for Mrs. Hillis will be at 6 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, at Fowler- Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. ., Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the chapel with Bro. Rick Holford officiating. Burial will be in Dunning Cemetery.

Ruth Ann Pippin

Ruth Ann Pippin 73, of Naylor, Mo., passed away on July 13, 2017 at the home of her sister and brother-in-law Pam and Weldon Cox of Oxly, Missouri.

Mrs. Pippin was born on Nov. 13, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her grandchildren. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, sewing, housework, gardening, working on the farm. She was of the Missionary Baptist faith.

On Nov. 9, 1962, she married Kelly Pippin in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He survives.

She is survived by her mother; Ruth Estella Bruner Ferguson, one daughter, Sherry Ann Barker & husband Bruce of Licking, Mo.; 4 sisters, Norma Jean Horrocks of Naylor, Mo., Pamela Sue Cox of Oxly, Mo., Karen Patton of Wichita, KS., Lisa Frish of Rolla, Mo.; 1 brother, David Ferguson of Woodbine, Maryland; 4 grandchildren, Hannah Rose, Emily Grace Ann, Caleb Matthew, and Zachary Levi; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is her father, Norman Sidney Ferguson.

Visitation will begin on July 16, 2017 starting at 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral starting  at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, with Elder Larry Edwards officiating.  Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery following services.

Irma Jean Jones

Irma Jean Jones, 73  of Cordova Tn. departed  this life on Saturday July 1, 2017 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis Tn.

She was a former resident of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will begin at 10 am Saturday July 8, 2017  at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the Funeral Home Chapel.

She will be laid to rest in the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Juanita Martin

Juanita Viola Martin, 87, of Fairdealing, Mo., passed away on July 4, 2017 at Southeast Hospital. Mrs. Martin was born on September 28, 1929 in Miami, FL. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed collecting whatnots, cookie jars, music boxes and snow globes. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints in Poplar Bluff.

On December 23, 1946, Juanita married Shirley Ray Martin in Pocahontas, Ar. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2014.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her children, William Larry Martin and Jerry Lee Martin, both of Fairdealing, Mo., Garry Albert Martin of Tuttle, OK.; 1 brother, Ervin Gaines of N.C.; 13 grandchildren, 10 adopted grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and 3 Great grandchildren.

Besides her husband Juanita was also preceded in death by 2 children, Tommy Ray Martin and Peggy “Sue” Martin; parents, Frank and Norma Gaines; as well as two brothers, Frank and Melvin Gaines.

Services will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 12:00 – 1:00p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints in Poplar Bluff, with funeral following at 1:00p.m., with Bishop Steve Richardson officiating. Burial will take place at Center Hill Cemetery.

Mary Katherine Morrow

Mary Katherine Morrow received her wings July 1, 2017 at her residence at the age of 76 surrounded by family who loved her dearly. Her positive attitude through two battles with breast cancer was an inspiration to all. Mary was born in Hayti, Mo., on January 28,1941. She was the daughter of Arvel and Ima Williams. Mary was a long time resident of  Neelyville, Mo. where se met George R. Morrow (Bob); they were married on January 17, 1959 and were married for 51 years before he preceded her in death on June 9, 2010.

Mary took great pride in taking care of her family as a homemaker. Hosting family get together, and cooking for her family was loved and treasured by many. Gardening was another joy of Mary’s and she had a green thumb. She and Bob raised three children, Terry (John) Ray of Marion Il., Lisa “Dee” (Wade) Cavness of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Todd Morrow of Dallas, TX.

Surviving siblings are Helen Ross of Southaven, MS and Raymond Williams of Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Flossie Williams, Evelyn Cagle, Bonnie Holmes, Arvel Williams Jr. and Willard Williams.

Mary is survived by her grandchildren, Adam Morrow, Andrea Crafton, Logan Steele, Kati Steele, Holly Cavness, Taylor Steele and Ethan Steele. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

Warren E. Gilliam Jr.

Warren E. Gilliam Jr., 72 of Poplar Bluff, passed away July 4, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gilliam was born December 26, 1944 in Hanford, California.  He was of the Christian Faith.

Mr. Gilliam enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors.  He especially enjoyed his dogs; Lady and Muffin.

He is survived by his children; Nicki Ruble, Bill Whoberry, Eddy and Michael Gilliam; step-father; John Lott; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Gilliam was preceded in death by his wife Linda Gilliam; mother; Pauline Lott and brothers; Ronnie and Jerry Gilliam.

Visitation will begin at 12pm Friday July 7 in the Poplar Bluff Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home.  Followed by a GRAVESIDE funeral service at Black Creek Cemetery at 1pm with Rev. Randy West officiating.

Dean Garner

Monday, July 3rd, 2017

Dean Garner, 79, of Neelyville, Missouri passed away July 2, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 13, 1937, at Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late Lexie Garner and Ethel Richmond Garner.

On August 31, 1955 at Holly Springs, Mississippi he was married to Bonnie Jean Price. She departed this life on November 5, 2005.

He is survived by; one son Steven Dean Garner of Neelyville, Missouri.4 grandchildren, Gary Garner, Amber Rogers, Renee`Busby and Billie Jean Garner; four great grandchildren; Brook Emilee, Hailie, Allyson, and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and  a daughter; Teresa Jean Turner

He was a farmer and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, fixing and restoring old tractors as well as talking with friends at the Stateline.

Visitation will be Thursday July 6, 2017 starting at 6:oo p.m. with the funeral on Friday July 7, 2017 starting at 10:00 am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, Inc, of Neelyville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery.
