Alfonse Webb Obituary


Visitation will begin at 11AM Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church with the funeral service to begin at 1PM at the church. Dr. Ron Webb to officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at City Cemetery.

Alfonse Webb was born January 29, 1929 in Tunica, Mississippi to John Wesley & Mattie Mae Webb. On June 28th, 1952 he married June Marie Williams, and to this blessed union 11 children were born. On Saturday, April 21, 2012 he departed his physical body and took on his heavenly garments and entered the bosom of Jesus Christ at the age of 83.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952. He served 13 months and 1 day in the Korean War. The Army uses military awards to recognize excellence of military members of the force. He received the following medals and decorations while being enlisted: Korean Service Medal/2 Bronze Service Stars (KSMW/2BSS), United Nations Service Medal (UNSM), Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), and the Good Conduct Medal (GCM). In 1954 he received an honorable discharge, which denotes honest and faithful service according to the standards of conduct, courage, and duty to the country. In his spare time Alfonse... also known as "Pop Webb", enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family & friends. He loved live stock farming and gardening. He was so proud of his "yearly garden". He was also an avid sports fan, who enjoyed watching sports, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo where he confessed Christ and served as a Sr. Deacon.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: His wife of nearly 60 years, June Marie Williams-Webb, 4 daughters: Carolyn Britton, & Dr. Sandra (Dwayne) Jackson both of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Delorris Webb Jefferson of Franklin, N.C., & Venorris (Kenith) Delesline of Ozark, Ar. 4 sons: Pastor Alfonse(Jennifer) Webb of Jefferson City, Mo., David (Michele) Webb, Sr., Dr. Ron (Georgia)Webb & Bruce (Sue) Webb all of Poplar Bluff, Mo. 2 sisters: Jewel Ackers of St. Louis, Mo., & Velma (Hank) Sims of Anchorage, Alaska. 3 brothers: C.L. (Lovie Mae) Webb of Memphis, Tn., Elmer Webb of St. Louis, Mo. & Arthur Webb of Charleston, Mo. He also leaves to a lifetime of cherished memories in the hearts of his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceeded in death by 3 children: Terry Joe Webb, Jeanette Webb-Johnson & a still born baby girl; 2 sisters, Ressie Kellum & Eunice Webb Mosley; 4 brothers, Nelson Webb, Wardell Webb, Sr., Benjamin Frank Webb & John Wesley Webb II; and his parents, John Wesley & Mattie Mae Webb.
