Gail Colter Obituary


Gail Rose Colter, 68, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in the arms of her daughters, Karman Rose Lucas and Joann Larra Brand at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Gail was born May 18, 1948 in Billings, Montana to Thomas F. Levan and Dorothy J. (VanHoosier) Levan, who preceded her in death in 2009. On October 20, 1968 she married James Dale Colter, who preceded her in death May 1, 2014. She was also preceded by her brother, Troy Levan and a great niece, Lilly Borkhardt.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karman and Mike Lucas; son, Thomas Colter, and special daughter-in-law, Joann Brand, and step-children, Michelle (Tubby) Chapman and Jimmy Dale (Tara) Colter and beloved dog, Bella; as well as her grandchildren, Joshua (Linda) Powell, Brennan (Mikayla) Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Quinton, Spencer and Wyatt Colter, Samuel Brand, Hailey Colter-Rains and Gauge Colter; great-grandchildren, Jonathon Romans, Carter Lucas and Kohen Lucas (due to arrive in March).

Also surviving, her loving sisters, Sandra (Paul) Spain, Anita (Bob Happ, Charlotte (Lester) Donelson, and her brother, Roger (Dorinda) Levan and many nieces and nephews she adores.

Gail retired from Briggs and Stratton. She cherished her grandchildren and yearly "Grandma Camp" for the month of July, where she would take them on train rides, trips to ball games, amusement parks, zoos and many other things. Blueberry pancakes were her specialty as well as chocolate cake for breakfast.

She was a very special woman, loved by many and very active in her church, initially New Bethany and then Third Baptist until her illness.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 12 (noon), in the chapel, with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev. James Capps officiating. She will be laid to rest in Duley Cemetery.
