Edgar Eugene "Gene" Hency, age 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, November 4, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Hency was born September 11, 1934, in Benton, Mo., to the late, Claudis William and Lula Mae (Estes) Hency. He served in the U.S. Army and later moved his family to Poplar Bluff where he worked at Uncle Joe's store for several years before working as a salesman for Meeks Lumber Company where he retired after more than 30 years. He enjoyed wood working, yard work, gardening and Cardinal's Baseball. He was a member of the West Side Church of God.
On December 31, 1956, he married Janet Wisdom, in Crowder, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Teresa Kronz and husband, Matt and Cheryl Rowden and husband, Paul; sisters, Pauline Burgess and husband, Norman and Clara Mae Dunham; and brothers, Claudis Hency Jr., Don Hency, Ralph Hency, and Robert "Bob" Hency and wife, Lee. He was Papa to Derek Prim (Amanda), Stephanie Underhill (Willis), Kimberly Naes-Pense (Chris), Kandice Dyer (Kim). He had nine great-grandchildren, Ethan and Zachary Underhill, Avin Prim, Matt, Abby and Sean Naes, Natasha Duelly, and Paul and Isabelle Dyer. He is also survived by his best friend, Clyde Stone.
Also preceding him in death are one sister, Mayme Hackaday and two brothers, Charles Hency and Neal Hency.
Visitation for Mr. Hency will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2013 at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Bob Featherston officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in the Mo. State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with full military honors.
