Jerry Thompson, 55, passed away November 30, 2010 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO Visitation will be held from 10AM to Noon Saturday Dec. 4, 2010 at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church of God 1875 Speedway Dr. Poplar Bluff, MO 63901. Funeral service will begin at noon with Bishop Ronnie Webb officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born July 19, 1955 to Allen Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson. His father, Allen Thompson and his sister Marilyn Brooks preceded him in death.
If one was to sum up Jerry's life, it would be that he was very outgoing, courageous and self-sufficient. He was the type of person that literally took life by the hands, he gave a lot and did not ask for much in return. Jerry was crafty with his hands and could fix anything. He spent his time cooking, horseback riding and fishing. He had such a love for children, his siblings, family and a special love for his mother. If someone were to ask him what his favorite color was, it was said LIFE.
He is survived by his precious mother; Elizabeth Thompson of St. Louis; two brothers Allen Thompson of St. Louis; and Gregory Thompson of Cahokia, IL two sisters; Zina Thompson of St. Louis and Vellery Rodgers (Marcus) of Denver, CO. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces ,nephews and other family and friends.
Jerry confessed a hope in Christ at the age of 10 years old an New Light Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff under the leadership of his late grandfather Rev. Frank Earl. He attended Poplar Bluff Seniour High. He worked for Contico and was self-employed for the remainder of his life.
