Jesse Hornbeck Obituary


Jesse M. Hornbeck, age 87, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at The Manor in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Hornbeck was born July 10, 1925, in Poplar Bluff, to the late Ransom and Rosetta (Redford) Hornbeck. He attended Poplar Bluff School before joining the CCC from 1939-1941. He served in the United States Army from 1941-1945, during WWII. He worked at Toellner Bakery (Bamby Bread), for 20 years. He then retired in 1990 from the Missouri Highway Patrol, as head of Maintenance for 22 years. Mr. Hornbeck was a devoted man to his children and grandchildren. An avid gardener, he loved sharing his tomatoes and cucumbers with his many family and friends.

On October 5, 1944, he married Mary (Gower) Hornbeck, in Corning, Ark. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Brenda Bellamy and husband, Allan, of Springfield, Mo., and Sharon Tibbs and husband, Marion, of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Kimberly Bellamy, Springfield, Mo., Scott Bellamy and wife, Michelle, Olathe, Ks.; Michelle Bates and husband, Doug, Poplar Bluff, Brian Tibbs and wife, Lori, Poplar Bluff; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Hessling and husband, David, Dexter, Mo., Kelsey Bates, Lucas, Tanner, and Tyson Tibbs, all of Poplar Bluff, Ashley Davis and husband, Jason, of Long Beach, Ms., Cole and Drew Bellamy of Olathe, Ks.; five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett and wife, Pete, Little Rock, Ar., Donnie Hornbeck and wife, Betty, Poplar Bluff, Ralph Hornbeck, St. Louis, Mo., two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Moore, Poplar Bluff and Carol Hornbeck, of Naylor.

Also preceding Mr. Hornbeck in death are siblings, Willis, Trillis, Albert, and Arvel Hornbeck, Lula Bell Moore, Carl and Ira Hornbeck.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by graveside services, with Military Honors, at 1:30 p.m. in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. Services officiated by Ron Fowler.
