Thelma Penrod, 93, of Neelyville died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at her residence in Neelyville.
Mrs. Penrod was born March 23, 1922, in Neelyville to the late Lynn Grimes and Sarah Hancock Grimes. She was a life-long resident of Butler County and was owner/manager of a local grocery store. She also was a licensed minister with International Gospel Assemblies in southern Missouri. She was a member of Neelyville Trinity Pentecostal Church where she was assistant pastor and Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Penrod enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking and her family. She was devoted to her church assemblies.
On May 21, 1940, she married Leroy Burton Penrod in Neelyville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2002.
Survivors include one son, Troy Penrod of Neelyville: one daughter in-law, Pat Wright of Neelyville; one sister, Geneva Crossen of Poplar Bluff; two grandsons, Jody Morris and TJ Penrod and wife Tiffany; two granddaughters, Becky Wertenberger and husband George, and Vickie LeCroy and husband Keith; great-grandchildren, Brian and Amanda LeCroy, Geoffery ad Gregory Wertenberger and Kaitlyn and Trevor Penrod; and her great-great-grandchild, Kayson LeGrand.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Morris; two sisters, Edith "Sis" Todd and Lula Penrod; five brothers, John Grimes, Luther Grimes, Lee Grimes, Floyd Grimes and Ed Grimes; and one grandson, Joe (Joey) Morris.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon with Rev. Nancy Campbell. Burial will be at Kinsey Cemetery near Harviell, Mo.
