Virginia Medling Obituary


Virginia Medling, 91, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Medling was born July 9, 1922 in Butler County to the late Charley and Erma (Helvey) Dunlap. A resident of Poplar Bluff, she lived in St. Louis for 40 years before returning to Butler County.

On July 17, 1944 she married James Arthur Medling in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death February 10, 2012.

She was a member of Living Word Baptist Church and was very active in Eastern Star, and past Worthy Matron in Florissant, Mo., Chapter 161 and Poplar Bluff Chapter 344. She was also a grand officer in 1995. She volunteered as a teacher's aid at Pilgrim's Rest Christian School. A 1940 graduate of Naylor High School, she worked as a stenographer at the army base in Malden, during World War II. She and her daughter, Peggy, were active in Girl Scouts in the 1950's and 60's.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Krash; a sister, Dessie Mirtz; a grandson, Paul Krash; a great-granddaughter, Tori Krash; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death include a brother Homer Dunlap and ten sisters, Opal Redford, Verneal McGruder, Virgie Arnold, Marjorie Redford, Ruth Davis, Wilma Lawless, Angie Lawless, Lillian Allen, Essie Dunlap and Bessie Dunlap and son-in-law, Ronald D. Krash.

Visitation will held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Donnie Emmons officiating. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery.
