Robert “Bob” Ogden

Robert Gene Ogden of Corning, passed away Saturday Feb. 18, 2012 at his residence in Corning at the age of 56.  Mr . Ogden was born on March 13, 1955 in McComb, Illinois to the late Harold Ogden and Nancy Goins Ogden.

On May 26, 2009, he married Vicky Jo Lane at Pocahontas Arkansas, she survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Jack Leach of Rockford Ill., Bobby Ogden of Corning Ark., Manuel Ogden of Poplar Bluff Mo., Michael Hart of  Drasco Ark., and Miranda Yancey of Rector Ark. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Edna Mayfield of Corning Ark., Mary Anderson of Poplar Bluff and Wanda Perren of Gallinton TN.  3 brothers Manuel Ogden of Corning Ark.  Harold Lee Ogden of Rockford Ill. and Henry Ogden of Panama Beach Fl. 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive.

In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, as well as singing, going to church and his grandchildren. He was a member of the House of Mercy at Pocahontas Arkansas. Mr. Ogden leaves behind many family and friends and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Visitation for Mr. Ogden will start Wednesday February 22, 2012 in the Fowler-Sullivan memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Mo. starting at 5:00 p.m.. A graveside will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. starting at 1:30 pm at the Cantwell Cemetery in Corning, Arkansas. Pastor Pete Avery officiating.

Robert A. Smith

Robert “Bob” Smith,72, of Fairdealing, Missouri  went home to be with the Lord February 20, 2012 after his battle with cancer since August 2011.  Bob was born October 21, 1940 in Champaign, Illinois to the late Emmett Smith and Sadie Harris Smith.

In 1960 he was married to Jeannie Rodgers.  She preceded him in death on December 31, 2006.

He is survived by; One Son, Michael R. Smith and wife Georgia of Fairdealing, Missouri. One sister, Patricia Porter of LaPorte, Indiana, Two granddaughters, Michelle of Fairdealing, Missouri and Shauna and Fiancee Jon Sparks of Fairdealing, Missouri. One very special friend LaVetta Settles. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as four sisters, Margaret, Norma, Jean, and Bernadine as well as one brother, Leon.

Bob was a member of the Pilgrims Rest Church in Fairdealing, Missouri. He enjoyed working on automobiles, Body work and making people laugh. He was the owner operator of Bob’s Auto Body Shop. and was co-owner of Lake shore Body Shop in LaPorte, Indiana. He has lived in Ripley County for 16 years having moved from LaPorte, Indiana.

Visitation for Bob will be Wednesday  February 22, 2012  starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Pilgrims Rest Church in Fairdealing, Missouri, with the funeral starting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Pilgrims Rest Church. burial will be Thursday morning at 10:00 am in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo. with Pastor Ron Payne officiating.

Mildred Jenkins

Mildred Jenkins, 95, of Poplar Bluff died Monday February 20. 2012, at 9:58 a.m., with family by her bedside, at the Cedargate Nursing Home.  Mrs. Jenkins was born Mildred Virginia Fowler on March 10, 1916 in Grandin, Mo.  On March 27, 1935 she married Loren McGowen of Naylor, who preceded her in death.  On October 11, 1983 she married Floyd Jenkins of Poplar Bluff, who also preceded her in death.  Mrs. Jenkins made her home with her niece, Wilma Blackledge Kenser for 11 years in Poplar Bluff, before becoming a resident of Cedargate Nursing Home.  Mrs. Jenkins served and loved Jesus Christ and enjoyed playing the piano, accordion and singing in a gospel trio.  She was the pianist at many gospel singing conventions around Butler and Ripley Counties.  If a church was missing a pianist they could count on Mildred to fill the need.  She also worked as a homemaker around Butler County. 

Preceding Mildred in death are her parents, James and Sarah Fowler; four brothers, Homer, Hobert, Ben and Charley Fowler and four sisters, Myrtle Fowler Graham, Zephra Fowler Blackledge, Florence Fowler Young and Lorene Fowler Green and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews who fondly remember Mildred’s warm and playful personality.  Although no children of her own, Mildred loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed sharing in their lives.

Visitation for Mrs. Jenkins will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Martin Kenser officiating.  Burial in Memorial Garden Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Off Street Ministries in Poplar Bluff.

Irene Duke

Irene Duke, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Duke was born July 24, 1932, in Wickliffe, Ky.  She lived most of her life in Butler County, Mo., and was of the Pentecostal faith. 

She was a musician and had played music for many well known entertainers.  She enjoyed her dogs, going to yard sales and being with people. 

On August 16, 1949, she married Ray Duke in Illinois.  He preceded her in death in October of 1988. 

Survivors include two children, Deana Hessling of Russellville, Ark. and Johnny Duke of Justin, Texas; one brother, Fred Sullivan of ElDorado, Ill; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Matheson, John Chaffin Jr., Tonya Chaffin, Tina Hessling, Lisa Barriner, Crystal Duke, Vonnie Raye Duke, Loretta Duke, Cody Duke and Billie Rae Duke; 13 great-grandchildren, Shealyn Plank, Stacia Plank, Ashlyn Bandy, Allyson Bandy, Johnny Chaffin III, Christopher Vaughn, Jesse Lindsey, Alex Adame, Whitney Adame, Dylan Adame, Cheyanne Adame, Christian Mancha and Austin Duke; and four great-great-grandchildren, Seaaira Lindsey, Angelynn Lindsey, Elizabeth Miller and Emmalynne Miller. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Ruby (Rich) Sullivan, and two brothers, Jerry “Bud” Sullivan Jr. and Noble Sullivan.

 Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. followed by  the funeral service at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, with granddaughter, Tammy Matheson officiating.  Burial in Mole Hill Cemetery.

Eual Dodd, 81 of Poplar Bluff passed away Friday February 17th, 2012 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.  Visitation will begin 10AM Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar St.  Funeral service will begin at 11AM Tues in the chapel with grandson, Rev. Christopher Dodd officiating.  Burial, with full military honors, will be at Mo. State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. 

Mr Dodd was born April 15, 1930 in Doniphan, Mo., to the late Lee H. Dodd and Bertha Dale-Dodd.  He was a member of Twin Springs Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.  He was retired from the U.S. Army and the Poplar Bluff Post Office.  He served two terms in the U.S. Army and one in the U. S. Coast Guard.  He enjoyed western books, models and travel. 

On June 21, 1953 he married Nora Emerson-Dodd, in Poplar Bluff, she survives. They enjoyed 58 1/2 years of marriage.   Also surviving are sons, Michael Lee Dodd and Robert Alan Dodd, a daughter, Judy Lynn Tufts and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Christopher A. Dodd and wife , Janet, Andrew M. Dodd and wife, Marci, Matthew R. Dodd and wife, Stephanie, Steven P. Dodd, Ryan Buchanan, Randal Buchanan and wife, Sarah and Aaron Buchanan, great-grandchildren, Chloe E. Dodd, Madalyn Dodd, Robert W. Dodd, Kooper Buchanan. 

He was preceded in death by sisters, Erma Abbott, Jessie Green, and Ruth Garner; brothers, Dick Dodd, Claud Dodd, Carl Dodd, and William Dodd and one great-granddaughter; Joanna G. Dodd.

Edna Hastings

Edna  Mae Hastings, of Poplar Bluff, passed away February 14, 2012 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  She was 78.

Mrs. Hastings was born February 1, 1934, in Butler County, to the late David and Daisy Fann.  She had formerly lived in Georgia and St. Louis, Mo.   She graduated from nursing school in 1969.  Her career, as an  LPN,  included working for the Poplar Bluff Hospital, Lucy Lee Hospital and Doctor’s Hospital.  She enjoyed sewing, painting, crafts, the outdoors, and taking care of people.  She was a member of Living Word Baptist Church. 

On August 28, 1954, in Hernando, Mississippi, she married Robert Hastings Sr.  They happily enjoyed 57 years of marriage.   Mr. Hastings survives.

Also surviving are her children, Rancy Hastings and wife, Sandy of St. Louis, Debbie Hooks and husband, Dennis of Ash, NC., Robert Hastings Jr. and wife, Roxie of Savannah, Ga., Julie Kirkley and husband, Rick of Poplar Bluff;  seven surviving sisters, Ruth Harris, Joyce Pinion, Judy Pinion,Margaret Pennington, Virginia Estell, Irene Shriver,and Violet Desha; five surviving brothers, Arthur Fann, Ray Fann, David Fann, Richard Fann,  and Frank Fann; five grandsons, Robert Hastings III and wife, Maggie of Marrietta, Ga., Shannon Hastings and Sean Hastings both of Savannah, Ga., Ryan Hastings, St. Louis, Mo., Matthew Kirkley, Poplar Bluff; one great-grandson, Tyler Hastings, Marrietta, Ga.

Preceding Mrs. Hastings in death are siblings Sharon Saylor, Jessie Fann, Oscar Fann, Carolyn Louise Fann and one great-grandson, Robert Hastings IV.  

Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, February, 18, 2012, in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Donny Emmons officiating.  Burial in the Rombauer Cemetery.

The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bonnie I. Proctor

Bonnie Irene Proctor 76, of Arnold, Missouri passed away February 8, 2012 at her residence. She was born April 15, 1925 at St Louis, Missouri  to the late Charles Proctor and Mable Irene Miller.

She was a former Elementary school teacher. She enjoyed scrap booking, photography, reading, sewing, oil painting, traveling, rubber stamping and water color pencils.

She was saved in June of 1946 and baptized in April 1947. She was a member of the Chambers Park, Fontaine Lane and Lindsay Lane Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her cousins; Jim Helvey, Bill Helvey, David Miller Carol Summers, Paul Miller, Kelly Miller, Martin Richard Miller, Dennis Perter and Verneal Hyde as well as other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Mrs Proctor will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Kinsey Cemetery near Harviell, Mo. Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri will be in charge of arrangements. With Pastor Danny Kirk officiating. Memorials can be made to the Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Florissant, Missouri.

Sarah Julia McBroom

Sarah Julia McBroom, 76, of Neelyville, Mo.. passed away Sunday February 12, 2012, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was born April 21, 1935, at Neelyville, Missouri to the late Lawernce Wagner and Alta LeGrand Wagner.

On July 10, 1953 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri She was married to Lex Leon McBroom. He departed this life on October 25, 1995.

Julia is survived by, two Grandchildren, Mark McBroom of Neelyville, and Scott McBroom of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. One Great Grandson. Jackson McBroom. one sister also survives Wilma St.Cin of Alabama and two brothers, Virgle Wagner of Neelyville and Ray Wagner of Fairdealing.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Parents and one daughter Diane McBroom. Two Sons, Teddy McBroom and Lex Ronald McBroom and one sister LeVerne Wilson.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed plants, and animals. She has been a life long resident of Bulter County.

Visitation for Julia will be Wednesday February 15, 2012 starting at 6:00 p.m. with the service February 16, 2012 starting at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Ash Hill Cemetery at Fisk, Missouri.

Robert Stevens

Robert  W. Stevens , 67, passed away February 12, 2012 at the  Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mr. Stevens was born January 30, 1945 at Paragould, Arkansas.  He was pastor at Leora Baptist Church and a former member of Temple Baptist.  He was  also a member of Cardiac Cowboys.   He retired from the U.S. Navy and from John J. Pershing VA  Medical Center.  Mr. Stevens enjoyed  riding horses and mission work. 

On January 31, 1973 he married Marilyn (Membrere) Stevens at National City, California.  She survives. 

Other survivors include two daughters, Roberta  Mills and husband, Robert of Lumberton, Texas and Allison Muse and husband, Robert of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two sisters Eunice Rogers and Marie Goetz; one brother Arthur Stevens; grandchildren, Naelyn and Madison Mills, Camron, Christian and Ethan Muse. 

Preceding him in death are his parents George and Nillie ( Kissel) Stevens; one sister, Mavis Eaton and one brother, Luther Stevens.

Visitation for Mr. Stevens will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church, 1813 Barron Road, Poplar Bluff, Mo.  Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the church, with Rev. Steve Patterson officiating.  Burial in the Mo. State Veteran Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo. with full Military Honors.

Robert D. Cory Jr.

Robert David Cory Jr. 73, of Harviell, Missouri., died Saturday, February 11, 2012 , at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. Mr. Cory was born July 29, 1938, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Previously a resident of Texas and Illinois, he returned to the Butler County area in 1986. he enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. A veteran of the United States Air-force, he served during the Vietnam War era, from 1956-1964. He had also worked as a  supervisor in home construction.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Cory of Lincoln, Nebraska and Debbie Bannon of California, Three brothers Charlie Cory of Belleville, Ill., Carl Cory of Maryville, Illinois and Phil Cory of Harviell, Mo. and four Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert David Cory Sr. and Alma Bowman Cory’ one Sister, Ethel Phillips; and one brother, Phillip Cory.

Visitation will be from 11: o0 am until 1:00 pm Wednesday at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville , Missouri. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home with Donnie Fowler officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with full military rites. Memorial may e made to John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.
