Ruth A. Taylor

Ruth A. Taylor, 93, of Poplar Bluff passed away Thursday July 26, 2012 at the Mark Twain Caring Center. 

Ms. Taylor was born October 6, 1918 at Cotton Plant, Ark. to the late Milton and Clemmie (Clark) Duncan.  She had lived in Poplar Bluff since 1980, but was previously a resident of Chicago, Ill.  She was a retired housekeeper.  She loved to cook, read, visit with friends and going to church.  She was a member of New Home Missionary Baptist Church.  She was married to Johnie Taylor in 1964.  He preceded her in death.  

Survivors include her children, Milton Taylor and wife Pauline of Poplar Bluff, Sheldon Taylor and wife Mary Ann of South Bend, Ind. and Melissa Fultz of Maywood, Ill.; 20 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Ms. Taylor will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by funeral services at 12 p.m., with Rev. Ivory Dean officiating.   Burial in the Morocco Cemetery.

SHAIRON WARD

Shairon J.  Ward, 75, of Poplar Bluff passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. 

Ms. Ward was born December 15, 1936 in Deering, Mo. to the late Archie Alfred Gadberry and Aretha Isabelle (McNinch) Gadberry. She was a member of the Oak Grove New Beginning Church in Poplar Bluff.  She had been a team driver with her husband in the trucking industry.  She enjoyed playing the piano, singing karaoke at the Eagles and American Legion and eating fish. 

On January 20, 1966 she married Marvin A. Ward.  He preceded her in death January 12, 2009. 

She is survived by 3 sisters; Thelma Smith, Barbara Grubb, and Sue Marchbank and 2 brothers; Bill Gadberry and Mike Gadberry and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 9-11 Monday, July 30, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Funeral service will begin at 11AMwith Pastor Faughn, from Twin Oaks Southern Baptist Church officiating.   A 1PM burial at MO State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO

Billy Blagg

Billy Justin Blagg, 81, of Harviell, Mo. passed away July 23, 2012 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at Houston, Texas.

Mr. Blagg was born December 9, 1931 at Grubbs Arkansas to the late William Harrison Blagg and Edith (Odglen) Blagg.  He had lived in Butler County since 1957.  He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in education for 30 years.  He was a coach and the last 16 years was a Superintendent of Schools.  Mr. Blagg also served on the TRC Trustees Board.  He enjoyed playing golf and loved all sports, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks.

On August 26, 1953 he was married to Willine (Runsick) Blagg at Grubbs, Arkansas.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Belinda Greenwood, of Nashville, Tn., LouCinda Hecht and husband, Hanno of Katy, Tx., Rebecca Thomas and husband, Leslie of Neelyville; one sister, Alta Williamson of Searcy, Ar.; grandchildren, Lance Corporal Nicolas Hecht, Mitchell Thomas, Katie Thomas and Jordan Thomas.

Mr. Blagg is preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Larry Greenwood.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. in the chapel.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens at Poplar Bluff.

CHARLES ROBERT KELLY SR

Charles Robert Kelly Sr., 69, of Qulin passed away July 19, 2012 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Kelly was born January 16, 1943 in Hollister, MO  He was a lifetime resident of Butler County and was a member of Calvary Community Church. 

Mr Kelly had served in the US Navy and was a truck driver.  He enjoyed auctions, singing in Quartets, preaching, attending church, and had pastored several Baptist Churches. 

On May 4, 1963 he married Dixie Norris Kelly in Mansfield, Ohio, she survives. 

Also surviving are children; Sarah Norman of Qulin, Rebecca Tanksley of Qulin, and Charles Kelly Jr. of Qulin; a sister, Kathryn Moore of Poplar Bluff and 9 grandchildren

There will be a memorial visitation Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Calvary Community Church 213 East Victor Street Poplar Bluff, followed by a service at 1PM with Pastor Shelvie Stephens officiating.

Clyde S. Harwell

Clyde Sterling Harwell, 90 of Poplar Bluff passed away Monday July 16, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Harwell was born February 17, 1922 at Hendrickson, Mo. to the late William Marion and Dora Bell (Bollinger) Harwell.   He had lived most of  his life at Poplar Bluff, but had previously lived in Arizona and Ava, Mo.  He was a member of Temple Baptist Church at Poplar Bluff and Masons Lodge 209.   Mr. Harwell served in the US Army during WWII and was a retired as a self-employed plumber. 

On November 8, 1974 he  married Judy (Jackson) Harwell  at Doniphan, Mo.  She survives.

Also surviving are 7 children, Rose Marie “Shorty” Jones of Paris Tn., Janis K. Hale of Puryear, Tn., Sandy Hatchell (Gary) of Springfield, Mo., Ross Allen Shaw II of Poplar Bluff, Steven Shaw (Denise) of Catawissa, Mo., Stan Shaw (Lisa) of Imperial, Mo., and Dora B. Burns (Bryan) of Poplar Bluff; 9 grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, and Dillon Shaw of Poplar Bluff, Nicole Shaw of Imperial, MO, Dominik Carnell of Poplar Bluff, Teri (Gene) Wilfred of TN, and 3 other granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren, Payton Sainio of Poplar Bluff, Nikki Johnson (Ricky) of TN, Kayce Mianoway (Michael) of TN, and 4 other great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; Drake, Chance, Gage and Katlynn of TN; 2 great-great-great grandchildren. 

Mr. Harwell is preceded in death by his father, William Marion Harwell and mother Dora Bell Harwell; two sisters, Beatrice “Sissy” Harwell and Della Swan; eight brothers, Lee Harwell, Lum Harwell, Claude Harwell, Fred Harwell, Stafford Harwell, Chester Harwell, Edwin Harwell and Lonnie Harwell.

A memorial visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church, 1813 Barron Rd., Poplar Bluff,  followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Steve Patterson officiating.  A private family burial with full Mitary Honors will be held at a later date at Mo. State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.

Edith May Davis

Edith May Davis of Poplar Bluff passed away July 17, 2012 at the Mark Twain Caring Center at the age of 89.

Mrs. Davis was born February 24, 1923 at Parma, Mo. to the late Lewis E. Gillihan and Violet May (Young) Gillihan.  

She had lived in Poplar Bluff since 1960.  She was a member of  the Third Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and worked at Mo. Savings and Loan Company for 37 years.   She enjoyed reading her Bible.    

On December 22, 1942 she married Raymond Larkin Davis at Poplar Bluff, Mo.  He preceded her in death on July 10, 2011.

Survivors include one daughter, Roberta “Bobbi” Leonard and husband, Jim of Jackson, Tn.; granddaughter, Jamie Lee Leonard-Mobley and husband Joshua of Jackson, Tn.; one great-grandchild, Weston Mobley of Jackson, Tn.; one sister, Barbara Tippen of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Troy Gillihan and Roy Gillihan both of Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis E. and Violet May Gillihan; her husband, Raymond L. Davis, one sister, Viola Gipson; two brothers Clarence and Raymond Gillihan; and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Lee Mobley.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 noon Thursday July 19, followed by funeral services starting at 1:30 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff, Mo.  Burial will be in the City Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Mayes officiating.

Virginia King

Virginia Elouise King of Poplar Bluff passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at her home.  She was 89 years, 5 months, and 10 days old. 

Mrs. King was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Naylor, Mo. to parents Frank and Ella (Melton) Ramsey.   Both preceded her in death.  She lived in Poplar Bluff most of her life.  She attended First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading the Bible, word search puzzles and sewing. 

On Nov. 1, 1943, she married William Rex King at St. Louis, Mo.  He preceded her in death. 

Survivors include one daughter- in-law, Reba D. King of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Elizabeth Walpole of Longview, Texas and Dorothy McCarty of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Larry King; and one grandson, William R. King II of Poplar Bluff.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Darry W. King; one daughter, Dr. Ronda E. King; one great-grandson, David W. King; four sisters, Aileen Warden, Betty Willoughby, Alice Bruner, and husband, Albert and Norma Barnhart and husband, Frank; and two brothers-in-law, Bob McCarty and Cecil Walpole.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at FOWLER-SULLIVAN MEMORIAL CHAPEL in NEELYVILLE, MO., followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., with Minister John Harwell officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Poplar Bluff.

Patricia Ann Travis

Patricia Ann Travis of Poplar Bluff, passed away Friday July 13, 2012 at the age of 70.

Mrs. Travis was born June 15, 1942, in Corning, Ar.  She had lived in Butler County all of her married life.  She attended Twin Springs Baptist Church.  She had worked as a dispatcher for Penske Trucking.  She enjoyed doing yard work.

On May 28, 1960, she married James Ed Travis.  He preceded her in death June 4, 2008. 

Survivors include her mother, Thelma (Duff) Brewer of Corning, Ark.; two brothers, Don Brewer and wife, Fletta, of Corning, Ark., and Jim Brewer and wife, Linda, of Success, Ark.; one niece; three nephews; one brother-in-law, Larry Travis of Finger, Tenn.; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Smith and Lola Ross, both of Finger, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Brewer in 1986.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff, Mo.   Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday July 17, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Tim Brewer and Roger Mayo officiating. Bobby Joe Mangrum Sr.

Bobby Joe Mangrum Sr. of Poplar Bluff passed away Sunday July 15, 2012 at his home at the age of 53.  Mr. Mangrum was born July 17, 1958 at Poplar Bluff, Mo. and was a lifetime resident.  He was a member of Grace Ministries in Poplar Bluff and American Legion Post 630.  He worked for Sandy’s Cab Co. in Poplar Bluff.  Mr. Mangrum enjoyed fishing, playing pool and horseshoes and he loved the outdoors. 

On July 19, 2008 he married  Ellen (Fox) Mangrum.  She survives.  Also surviving are one son, Bobby Joe Mangrum Jr. of Greenville, Mo.; sisters, Kay Moody, Debra Mangrum, Sharon Foster and husband, Jerry, Sue Gann and husband, Byron, all of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Jimmy Bridges of Poplar Bluff. 

Mr. Mangrum is preceded in death by his parents, James Mangrum and Arleva (Smith) Mangrum.

Visitation for Mr. Mangrum will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday July 17, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by funeral services at 3 p.m., with Rev. Sandy Mick officiating.   Memorials can be made to Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home.

Charles Andrew Riels

Charles Andrew Riels of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at  the age of 40.

Mr. Riels was born July 24, 1972 in Poplar Bluff.  He formerly lived in Atlanta, Ga. 

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Poplar Bluff and was an ordained minister.  His hobbies were carpenter work, yard sales and working in the garden. 

Survivors include  his father, John Wesley Ryles of Nashville, Tenn. ; a sister, Christine Boone of Poplar Bluff, and aunts and uncles, Leo and Betty Hayes, Nelda and Walter Hays and Darlene and Reed Lillard. 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Debra Boyd and his maternal grandparents, Hazel Madeline Spurlock Hayes and Leo Edward Hayes.  A memorial service will bel held at a later date.
