Deloras A. Payne

Deloras A. Payne of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Payne was a former resident of St. Louis, Mo. and retired from the U.S. Federal Government Dept. of Justice.  She enjoyed her family, southern gospel music, reading, decorating, flowers, figure skating, travel, piano, and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.  She presently attended Westside Church of God, but was a member of her home church, First Church of God.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Dawn Ethridge; two brothers, Larry Dare and wife, Judy and Terry Dare and wife, Jackie; her grandchildren, Scotty Engle II and Regina Ethridge; great-grandchildren, Ariana Engle and Kaylee Ethridge as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Eugene and Opal Belle (Hendrix) Dare.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with Pastor Bill Wiles officiating.  Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, of Poplar Bluff, in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Ellen Hatton

Ruby E. Hatton, 87, of Oxly, Mo., died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at her residence.  She was born October 3, 1925  at Linden , Tennessee to the Late Eugene and Minnie Jones Mercer.

On October 18, 1943, at Caruthersville, Mo., she was married to Ben F. Hatton. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1996.

She is survived by her children, Ben Hatton of Fairdealing, Mo., Bob Hatton and wife, Marte of Fairdealing, Mo., Marion Reed and husband, Bob of Oxly, Mo., and Regina Wilson and husband, Rex of Oxly, Mo. Twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter Shelia McCain and three infant grandsons, as well as one sister, Marty McMullugh and two brothers, J.J. Mercer and Hove Mercer.

Mrs. Hatton was a member of the Victory Christian Church of God and she enjoyed cooking, and working on word search puzzels, gardening and singing.

Visitation for Mrs. Hatton will be Tuesday April 9, 2013 starting at 11:00am in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery. Pastor Jim Hoyt officiating.

Arvel Sweeza

Arvel Sweeza, 91, of Naylor, Mo. passed away April 7, 2013 in the Current River Nursing Center at Doniphan, Mo,. He was born November 15, 1921 in Clay County Arkansas to the late Turner and Nancy Sweeza.
On April 2, 1942 at Patterson, Mo. He was married to Daisy Meador. She preceded him in death 1978,

He is survived by; His children,Beth Gravel of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Charles Sweeza of Harveill, Mo., Marvin Sweeza of Butler County, Mo.; Carl Douglas Sweeza of Naylor, Mo. and Jeffery Sweeza of Naylor, Mo.. Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Two sons, Elwood and Eugene Sweeza as well as two sisters and two brothers.

He had worked in a nursery for Poplar Bluff Trees. He enjoyed singing, and playing the piano and his guitar. He was a member of the Lone Hill Baptist Church.

Graveside services for Mr. Sweeza will Wednesday April 10, 2013 at the New Prospect Cemetery near Silva. Missouri starting at 11:00 am. Donnie Fowler Officiating.

Edna Mae (Moore) Walker

Edna Mae (Moore) Walker,age 95, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday April 5, 2013, at the Oak Dale Care Center.  

Mrs. Walker was born October 24, 1917 in Oxly, Missouri, to the late Floyd and Rosie (Sheridan) Moore. A former resident of Doniphan, Mo., she had lived in Poplar Bluff for 14 years. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, flowers and quilting.

 On July 6, 1933, she  married  Fred Walker at Oxly, Mo.  He preceded her in death on May 13, 1976.

Survivors include her children, Ethel Gillespie (Glen), of Cold Water, Mo., Bonnie Burns of Poplar Bluff, Bob Walker (Mayjean) of Belknap, Ill., Don Walker (Naomi) of Monet, Mo. Patricia Bickford (Archie) of  Poplar Bluff, Bill Walker (Kathy) of St. James, Mo., Linda Snodgrass, Cape Girardeau, Fred Walker (Sabrina), Apache Junction, Az., Brenda Stenger of Poplar Bluff and John Walker (Beverly) of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Anna Bell (Billy) Vick and Rose Mary Fisher of Trinity, Tx.; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. 

She is also preceded  in death by one son, Jim Walker; and several brothers and sisters.

Services for Mrs. Walker will be Sunday April 7, 2013, with visitation beginning at 12 noon, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street in Poplar Bluff, with Pastor Marvin Creelman officiating.  Burial will be in Gum Cemetery, near Naylor.

Elbert W. “Bill” Lacey

Elbert W. “Bill” Lacey, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. formerly of Anderson, Indiana, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home. He was born November 9, 1937  at Louisville, Ky. to the late Elbert W Lacey and Hester Cravins Lacey.

On  September 12, 1980 at Noblesville, Indiana, He was married to Shirley Stone. She survives.

Also surviving,  his children, Jerry Lacey of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mark Lacey of Wichta Falls, Texas, Kelly Lacey of Noblesville, Indiana and Timothy Lacey of Huntsville, Alabama., One sister, Blanch Matherly of Noblesville, Indiana and three brothers, Jim Lacey, Robert Lacey and Clifford Lacey all of Noblesville, Indiana. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ella Mae Beaver and one brother Charles Lacey.

He was a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, cards and bowling. He served 14 years in the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge and former member of the Eagles and VFW.

Visitation for Mr. Lacey will be Saturday, April 6, 2013 starting at 11:00 am with the funeral following at 1:00 pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel at Neelyville, Mo.  burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Fowler officiating.

Catherine Anderson

Catherine Anderson was born on March 14, 1957, in Memphis, Tenn. to Betty McComb and the Late Steve Anderson Sr.. She was lifelong resident of Poplar Bluff until she moved to St. Louis, Mo.. Catherine comfessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Elbethel House of Worship. She enjoyed dancing, collecting jewelry, spending time with her family, but most of all she enjoyed shopping.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Stephen Anderson of Sikeston, Mo.; a daughter, Krystal Anderson of Vandelia, Mo.; her grandchildren, Deaireus Anderson, Secret Buchanan, Malachi Buchanan and Jahlayla buchanan, all of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Her mother, Betty McComb of Neelyville, Mo. Grandmother, Mary Austin of Michigan; five sisiters, Nancy Trice of Chicago, Emma McComb, Vivian McComb, Dorris McComb and Brenda K. McComb all of Neelyville; four brothers; Johnny L. McComb, Lee K. McComb Jr., Eddie McComball of Neelyville, Mo. and Ronnie McComb of Poplar Bluff, Mo. a very special aunt that she held close to her heart, Margaret Minton of St. Louis, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Steve Anderson Sr; Stepfather, Lee K. McComb Sr.; four  brothers, Robert Anderson, Steve Anderson Jr. Arthur Anderson and Donald McComb; and a granddaughter, Aweona Buchanan.

Visitation will be April 2, 2013 starting at 11:00 am with the funeral following at 1:00 pm in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Mo.  Burial will be in the Neelyville Cemetery, with Rev Donnell McComb officiating.

Norma Litton

Norma Litton, 78, of Poplar Bluff passed away at her home on Monday, April 1, 2013. Ms. Litton was born February 25, 1935 at Naylor, Missouri.

Ms. Litton worked as a Legal Secretary for Union Oil. She enjoyed reading, walking, crossword puzzles, and horse races.

She is survived by 1 sister; Dottie Litton. Ms. Litton was preceeded in death by her parents; John Wesley Litton and Edna Bleakley Litton; 2 sisters, Jean Gilles and Vera Gazell; and 2 brothers, Clifford Litton and Walt Litton.

A memorial service may be at a later date.

Robert A. “Bob” Hillebrand

Robert A. “Bob” Hillebrand, 74, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Westwood Hills Nursing Home. Mr. Hillebrand was born June 21, 1938 in StLouis, Missouri.

He had worked as a Supervisor in a shipping yard.

A private memorial service will be held at the home at a later date. In lieu of any flowers, please make donations to St.Jude.

Charles Waggoner

Charles Arthur Waggoner, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Monday April 1, 2013, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Waggoner was born September 13, 1931 in Gays, Ill.  He married Joyce Hicks on May 26, 1954, in Hernando, Mississippi. She survives.

Mr. Waggoner is also survived by a daughter, Linda Seats; two brothers; Francis and Ray Waggoner; one grandchild, Radeena Clark; and five great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Proffer, Ealie York, Zach and Brittany Lafferty and Jerry Mote.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Max and Florence (Gardner) Waggoner; and a sister, Wilma Hopson.

Mr. Waggoner served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Sears Youth Center.  He enjoyed playing music and games with family and friends.

Visitation will be at 6p.m. Friday April 5, 2013, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home,  844 Cedar Street in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 10a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the chapel with Bro. Arvin Haynes officiating.  Burial will be in Kinsey Cemetery.

Shirley Joyce Ethridge

Shirley Joyce Ethridge, 68, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away March 31, 2013 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Ethridge was born April 18, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo. to Joe and Dorothy (Palmer) Bone, who preceded her in death.

She was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed puzzles, watching NasCar races and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughter Shelly Brown; two sisters, Linda Harper and Jean Bone; two brothers Edward Bone and Pete Bone and two grandchildren Lanie Osborn and Mackenzie Osborn.

She was preceeded  in death by her parents and one son, Joseph Carl Ethridge.

A Graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 2p.m.  at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
