Shirley Dyer

Shirley Irene Dyer, 66, of Neelyville, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015 at her residence.

Mrs. Dyer was born March 23, 1949 in Kalmazoo, MI. She worked as health care giver and enjoyed video games, fishing, gardening, flowers, and puzzles.

Survivors include her children, Frankie Kovach, Vickie Green, and Victor Kovach Jr.; 3 sisters; 4 brothers; 12 grandchildren; and  7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son; Billy Ray Kovach; parents, Raymond Sawyer and Irene Elizabeth Gastone; 1 sister, Zella; and 1 granddaughter, Felicia Kovach.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Kinsey Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Thelma Penrod

Thelma Penrod, 93, of Neelyville died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at her residence in Neelyville.

Mrs. Penrod was born March 23, 1922, in Neelyville to the late Lynn Grimes and Sarah Hancock Grimes. She was a life-long resident of Butler County and was owner/manager of a local grocery store. She also was a licensed minister with International Gospel Assemblies in southern Missouri. She was a member of Neelyville Trinity Pentecostal Church where she was assistant pastor and Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Penrod enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking and her family. She was devoted to her church assemblies.

On May 21, 1940, she married Leroy Burton Penrod in Neelyville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Troy Penrod of Neelyville: one daughter in-law, Pat Wright of Neelyville; one sister, Geneva Crossen of Poplar Bluff; two grandsons, Jody Morris and TJ Penrod and wife Tiffany; two granddaughters, Becky Wertenberger and husband George, and Vickie LeCroy and husband Keith; great-grandchildren, Brian and Amanda LeCroy, Geoffery ad Gregory Wertenberger and Kaitlyn and Trevor Penrod; and her great-great-grandchild, Kayson LeGrand.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Morris; two sisters, Edith “Sis” Todd and Lula Penrod; five brothers, John Grimes, Luther Grimes, Lee Grimes, Floyd Grimes and Ed Grimes; and one grandson, Joe (Joey) Morris.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon with Rev. Nancy Campbell. Burial will be at Kinsey Cemetery near Harviell, Mo.

Christopher Gentry

Christopher Gentry, 43, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Saint Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Mr. Gentry was born July 5, 1972 in Jonesboro, Ar.

He was employed with KBI Construction.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, and riding country roads.

On May 16, 2015 he married Christa (Spradling) Gentry, at Beaver Lake.  She survives.

Also surviving are six children, Tawny and Cole Gentry, Casey and Jana Haldeman, all of Poplar Bluff, Sierra and Leah Zimmerman of Ellsinore; his mother, Yvonne (Ward) Gentry and sister, Melissa Richardson and husband, Kurt, also of Poplar Bluff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his father, Clarence O. Gentry.

Visitation will begin at 11a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at noon, in the  chapel, with Evangelist Sharon Stadler and Rev. Gene Riddle officiating.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, Mo.

Donna Pearson

Donna Marie Pearson, 59, of Bragg City, Mo., formerly of Oklahoma and Corning, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Pearson was born Jan. 12, 1956 in Corning, Ar. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed playing guitar and going to the casino. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

On April 12, 1976 se married Robert Pearson in Success, Ar. He survives.

Besides her husband, also surviving is her children, Tracie Oliveraz, Stacy Leonard, Jimmy Pearson, Robert Pearson Jr., Dorothy Moss; step-children, Ricky & Ronnie Robinson; 2 sisters, Ella Hathaway of Mo Ark, Ar., Lora Lynn Niswonger of Russellville, Ar.; 3 brothers, Eddie Leonard of Doniphan, Mo., David Leonard and John Leonard both of Corning, Ar.; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebekah Pearson; parents, Paul Wayne Leonard and Lora Cremans Leonard; 2 sisters, Deborah Ann Leonard and Betty Crossen; 3 brothers, Fred, Jerry and Don Leonard Sr.

Services will be on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015. Visitation will be  from 11:30 to 12:30 at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel with a graveside service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Mo Ark Cemetery. Don Leonard Jr. will be officiating.

Thelma McWilliams

Thelma Dovetta (Cozort) McWilliams , 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went to live with her heavenly father at 11:16 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Ms. McWilliams was born June 7, 1940 in Greenville, Mo.  She was a member of the Palace of Praise Church of God.  She loved her family above and beyond measure.  Her entire life consisted of living for the Lord and loving her family and many friends.  She enjoyed spending time with family and going to church and singings.  She was a true prayer warrior. She loved talking to God and gave God credit for everything in her life.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn Nance (Chuck), Linda Head (Mike), Jo Ann Adams (Rick), Janice Buhler (Harlen) and David McWilliams (Cindy); five grandchildren, Michael Head, Steven Nance, Joey Bruner (Susan), Stephanie Nance (Rex Steward), and Stacy Root (Rodney); six great-grandchildren, Rodney Root Jr., Payton Steward, Makayla Root, Landon Bruner, Ethan Bruner and Brianna Steward; one brother, Wayne Cozort; five sisters, Betty Webb (Bud), Bessie Chatman, Glenda Miller (J.D.), Hazel Scrivner, Wanda Cozort, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Josephine Cozort; one brother, Earl David Cozort and a daughter, Brenda May McWilliams.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 in the chapel with Rev. Randy West and Rev. Shelvie Stevens officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.

Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain.  She will be missed by all.

Virginia “Darnell” Tibbs

Virginia Nell “Darnell” Tibbs, 70, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Monday Oct. 5, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Tibbs was born on March 1, 1945 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She worked as a legal secretary for Mike Pritchett Law firm. She enjoyed gardening, working with Kerns Chapel, canning,  her church and being the church pianist for 40+ years. She was a lifetime member of the Kerns Chapel in Stringtown and was a Sunday school teacher.

She was married to Paul Tibbs. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Joey Lutes and wife Tina of Naylor, Mo., Jerry Edmundson and wife Amy of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Mark Jones and wife Elizabeth of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 2 sisters Lois Gunn and Betty Dillinger; 3 brothers, Willie Darnell, Ted Darnell, and George Darnell; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Harve Lee Darnell and Mattie Mae Hill Darnell and one brother, Robert Darnell.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 9, 2015 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Kerns Chapel in Stringtown, with Rev. Jimmy Bruce and Rev. Everett Gunner will be officiating.  Burial will be Kearns Chapel Cemetery in Stringtown.
